I will say that it just depends. Sometimes they’ll make an exception, and it’s often times up to the Genius.

Unfortunately im clumsy due to some disabilities. I’m using a 13 mini with a rokform case, have dropped it numerous times on hard tiled floor, and never damaged the phone.
It’s a great case, works as advertised, but it’s very heavy.

I use a case on my iPhone don't want my phone to gain any unforseen damage.

I have used the case first few month after I have bought my iPhone (13 pro max). After that, I do not remember, I guess I have seen a tiktok a guy was saying using a case mean you keep the phone in a good condition FOR ANYONE ELSE, for the person you want to sell it.

After that moment I never used a case anymore. Everyone knows it is more ”beautiful” without any

Watched a woman in our hotel reception in Lanzarote this morning drop her iPhone 14 or 15 as she was navigating through an interactive screen on an information terminal. She just seemed to let go of it onto a marble floor.

Not fluent in Spanish but she was very animated and the phone was clearly smashed on the back glass. The entire family were passing it around to look at it.

Yet another example where I’ve witnessed someone without a case regret it, even with a simple and small drop.

The two times I've dropped my phone where it had to be fixed or replaced I wasn't regretting not having a case. I was regretting my inattention to what I was doing at the time. Had I given things my full attention rather than my mind being elsewhere then both of those times I would not have dropped my phone.

But yet again, that is just me.

Sometimes when someone is juggling bags and kids, it’s stressful and the process of handling a phone is way down the list of priorities. I drop my phone regularly and have once or twice while on holiday but haven’t had to worry about it due to the case and screen protector. As you know, I’m not one who worries about appreciating the naked feel of my iPhone, it’s just an everyday tool and I protect it not to have to give it a second thought.

Yes, we have both sounded each other out over this. And I get what you are saying here. I always just chose to leave my phone in my pocket when juggling bags and my kids (when they were young). Considering, that all of us are primarily homebodies that's never been much of an issue though.

A couple years ago we went up to see my sister and my mom, which required flying and boarding passes on our phones. I made sure everyone was forwarded a pic of their own boarding pass so they could use their phone with it. Only once did I have to scan my phone for them with their boarding pass. However, my kids were 18 and 14 then so not as big a deal.

Again (as in past posts) not disagreeing or saying you're doing it wrong. You and I just have very different lifestyles and we approach things very differently.

Very good pointed. But that happened? I have dropped it many times, and all good.

First time was a 6 Plus. I was kind of groggy from taking an antihistamine for my allergies. Getting in to my car there was a loud backfire from a car somewhere nearby. I was halfway into the car and transferring my phone from my left hand to right. The backfire startled me. and I dropped the phone at around two and a half feet above the ground. It fell onto asphalt and hit on the right front corner of the screen first. Other than smashing the screen it was fine. My screen protector (which I was using at the time) was undamaged.

Apple replaced the entire phone for the cost of the screen replacement because at the time iOS 9 was being launched and they were having issues getting it installed.

The second time, I was once again, groggy from an antihistamine for my allergies. I had my 11 Pro Max in my left hand and I went to unlock it with my right hand. However, because I was NOT paying attention my right hand instead smacked the back of the phone. That caused me to lose my grip on the phone with my left hand and the phone tumbled from about chest height to concrete. It hit back first around the top half. That caused the back glass to shatter and the impact shock cracked the front screen from inside the phone. This time I had AC+ and the entire device was replaced for the incident cost.

So, both times I'd taken an antihistamine, became groggy and therefore was not paying attention. This is not an issue anymore because I finally found a third-gen antihistamine that does not make me groggy and works for me.

It’s luck of the draw. If the phone lands on the bezel and the metal absorbs the impact, you might get away with it as the second impact has had the inertia taken out of it. If it lands directly on the screen or back glass like I witnessed earlier today, you’re more likely to have a larger bill.

Edited, due to the iPhones strange fascination with changing words that make no sense via autocorrect.

My son and I were at Walmart about a year ago and I'm pushing the cart trying to unlock my phone one handed. It started to go a bit wobbly and I forced myself right then and there to stop the cart and put my phone in my back pocket.

I pulled out of the way and using two hands checked what it was I was trying to unlock the phone to check. Had I pushed things by continuing to violate my 'rules' of not using my phone one-handed I'd have had another broken phone. Fortunately, I stopped myself before that happened and got a grip on things.

I stopped using a case (more or less) with the 15 Plus. Previously I always used cases with the exception of the iPhone 3G. The reason being that every iPhone I used from the iPhone 4 onwards felt terrible in-hand. That all changed with the iPhone 15 Plus which felt awesome in-hand.

I do have a case and I only use it for social events where I think someone might use my iPhone to take a photo or video. (Weddings, etc.) I don't trust handing my case-less iPhone to someone to snap a moment without potentially dropping it.

In the past I have mostly used a case but this past year I decided to go fully naked with the 15 PM. I dont think I will be doing that again - so many scratches on the front and then the back glass finally cracked a couple weeks ago. A case may have prevented the crack and definitely minimized a lot of the scratches

Glad you’ve learned your lesson.

Welcome back to the screen protector and case club!

My 11 Pro Max has never been in a case and has no scratches, nicks, dents, cracks or any other damage.

What lesson did I learn? ;)
That is impressive! I have dropped my 14 Pro Max more times that I care to admit and my case and screen protector saved it every time.

I've just learned to be careful and I have developed 'rules' for myself as well as a spatial awareness about where my phone is in space relative to my person.

That's not to say that case users aren't careful or that I have never dropped my phone. I have, and twice it was sufficient to warrant replacement. But twice since 2012, I think is pretty good. Both times I was drowsy and not watching what I was doing.

It also helps that I don't have a profession where my phone is likely to be mangled if I do not have a case, so there's that too. If I had a physical job I'd have my phone in a case - at least on the job.

Nice post. Do you use a screen protector? Any scratches? I've heard people say "yes" and "no" when not using a screen protector. I think the screens are a lot scratch resistant nowadays.

You’ve got special rules and have taught yourself to avoid situations where you could end up with a broken phone.

Most people remove their case and change little about their behaviours resulting in accidents. I can’t be bothered changing my behaviour and don’t want to have my phones placed on specific spots in my house where they are safe.

The vast majority don’t work remotely from home either so have commutes, walking around busy city streets and offices to contend with. If I were to remove my case I would have to change my behaviour otherwise my phone would end up with a cracked screen or back.

I’d rather just slap on a screen protector and a case and be done with it.

No, no screen protector. I have not noticed any scratches. But I am also careful where I set my phone down. I'd also mention that I seem to be different than most people. I don't want scratches on my screen, so I never set my phone down face down. It's always face up. If anything is going to scratch I'd rather it be the back - because I'm not looking at that very much. :)

Yeah, I hear that a lot. It's an adjustment most people do not want to make. And with some case users it's an excuse to toss their phone around without concern (because the case will always do it's job right?). I have qualified this. I said some, not all. Just some.

Putting my phone away when there are lots of people around in a line, or on the street or wherever is one of my 'rules'. Yesterday. there was someone at Starbucks who passed too close in front of me and my right hand immediately went up to the right corner of my phone. That was both to protect the screen and prevent my phone from being knocked out of my left hand if they'd gotten any closer.

So, my 'rules' are just reflex now. I did have to get over putting fingerprints on my screen though. Once I learned to live with that, handling became easier. I'd rather be cleaning smudges off my screen versus having a crack in it.

I don't have a problem with case users. Use your phone your way.
