For my 14PM and before that 12PM, no case. Just a screen protector. I’ve cracked a few of those. For the 14PM I use the magnetic Apple leather wallet. That’s it.

Nope. Cases add a surprising amount of weight to the phone and I've tried a hundred of em.
Just weighed my Spigen case and not so much added weight. Doesn't seem like a lot of extra weight for the protection it affords.

34.2 grams

Everything is relative. Difference between 14PM and 15PM is ca 20g, and seen many comments in line with ”omg 15PM is sooo much lighter”… anyways, also belong to the camp that prefers the feeling going without, just always find myself taking the cases off after a short while.

Guess I'm glad I work out at the Y 4 or 5 days a week.

Never considered my 13PM as being heavy.

I am rather unusual in that I prefer a heavier phone. I consider it to be more substantial and the weight assists in my mind's tracking of where my phone is spatially (in relation to my body). That spatial awareness helps me to protect my caseless phone from drops, bumps or knocks. A lighter weight phone risks being launched out of my hand when moving around.

My current phone is the 11 Pro Max and as much as I like it, I don't care for the fact that Apple designed it in such a way that the majority of it's weight is in the top half of the phone. This makes it top heavy and prone to falling from my grip. It's necessitated an adjustment to how I hold it - directly by the sides in the middle, rather than around the bottom half.

Tell @ubinko that. I have always used case and screen protector on all my iPhones and iPads.
I have never cracked or badly scratched a phone screen in my life. I tried a screen protector once (many years ago) and it just didn't feel as good as using the actual screen. Perhaps screen protectors are better now? In any case, I won't be using one. If I'm really worried, I'll get apple + which covers for accidental damage.

I am glad you never cracked or damaged your screen. Personally, I'd rather spend $10.00 on a good tempered glass screen protector than $200.00 to $270.00 or more on protection I may or may not ever need to use. I've cracked several glass screen protectors that always saved my screen, so I can justify the cost of those.;)

I had a screen protector once. It protected itself while the screen cracked behind it. Pretty useful to protect my fingers from the shards of glass behind it until I got the phone replaced (for the cost of the screen replacement).

My wife is terrible with her phones. I actually feel sorry for her devices.

I just replaced her screen protector on her SE, and two weeks later....

You should have seen the protector I replaced.

Had too many cracks to count, but the screen is unscathed.

I have cracked many screen protectors over the years and never had damage to my screen. Firm experienced screensaver and case believer here.

Thankfully I've never been that careless with my phone.;)
Not careless, just had taken an antihistamine at the time. There was a loud sound when I was getting in the car and I dropped the phone.

Since 2009 I've dropped a total of two phones sufficiently to merit replacement. That's two phones in 15 years (no case, no AC+), which I think is pretty good. My process works for me. :)

My wife is religious about cases. She sits on her phone (case on) all the time. Part of my reason for the way I handle my caseless phones is so that I do not have to explain to her why or how I dropped it and that it's got to be replaced. The two times that HAS happened, she's managed to hold herself back from demanding I use a case, but only with great difficulty. :)

But………… you did drop them twice so it can’t happen again ? 🤪

iPhone 5S: no case.
iPhone 7 Plus: no case.
iPhone 12 Pro: leather case for the last four years and it's biting the dust, just in time ahead of the 16 Pro.
iPhone 16 Pro: think it'll be no case again. might kinda dig how the natural titanium wears over time, honestly.

Side note: no screen protectors, ever. The glass nowadays is pretty darn tough against scratches and cracks from falls. I frequently see people claiming that their shattered screen protector prevented their actual screen from shattering, but...I don't think it does? The glass on protectors is far weaker than the glass on the phone itself (millions of R&D money went into Ceramic Shield), so of course it'll shatter while the phone's screen doesn't. A case will do the heavy lifting of preventing shattering, not a screen protector... right? maybe my physics knowledge is wrong though. any physicists around here? 👀

I use a case partially because I keep phone in holster on belt at work, so the case is needed. Also I find the phone to be too slippery without a case. I’d prefer no case for the aesthetic.

After getting a few small scratches on my 8 Plus screen over the course of the five years I used it, I got a screen protector for my 14. Those scratches drove me absolutely nuts.

I’d put one on my 1st gen iPod touch, but they were plastic film back then, and truly awful. It didn’t last long before I ripped it off. The glass ones don’t detract from the screen like the old ones did, and if I get scratches in it, I can just replace it.

I found a inch and a half deep scratch on my iPhone 5 screen once. I only found out about it because I could feel it with my fingernail.
To see it, I had to stand on a chair and hold the phone close to strong light. And it only became visible when I contorted my upper body in such a way as to get my head into an appropriate position. All while trying to balance on the chair and not fall flat on my back.

First and last time I made any attempt to notice scratches on my screen.
