My personal record is 5 iPhones since 2016, each dropped between 40-50 times on various surfaces. No damage, cosmetic or otherwise, on any of those devices. I do use cases and screen protectors though.
You know how people don't like microscratches on their phones, or obsess about discolorations or this or that?

That's how I feel about drops. Somewhere in my mind is a voice saying, 'Now, just what is it that you damaged internally from that drop, or from putting the phone down a little too hard?'

That's ultimately what bothers me - the possibility of internal damage. Because you can't see it, which means uncertainty. And I hate uncertainty. But I can't keep running to the Apple store for diagnostics to make myself feel better over every little thing.

So, I try to avoid it by being aware. For me, a case is just going to cause me to not be aware and when I start banging my phone in to stuff (because I will) then this voice in my head will get louder.

I have a bad habit of swinging my hands around sometimes and not paying attention. Caused a workman's comp issue once when I did that and sliced a finger open on a file cabinet. I've cut more than one finger with my own knives since I was a teen. Lack of focus and paying attention. Lack of being careful.

Not using a case forces me to think and be careful, because the consequences can be costly.

Currently rocking this Ringke fusion X cameo case on my 15PM.

That's a good point. Had a coworker that dropped her 13 Pro at work a couple years ago and while it looked fine, it sheared off the taptic engine from whatever it's attached to internally. You could hear it rattling around.

I brought in a small toolset the next day to open it up for her and it fell out.

Okay... I had to go look that one up. I'm sure it's a very nice case and all... but why on earth did they name their camo case "cameo"? The name practically screams typo -- and yet, apparently it's not. (Or maybe it actually was a typo made by someone in their marketing department, but the person who named it doubled-down when it was pointed out?)

Sorry for the off-topic, (or maybe "side-quest" could be a good term for it, you know, since we're renaming things and all) but it just bugged me.

Speak for yourself. :)

I don't use cases.

I've had smartphones since 2009 and an iPhone since 2011. In all that time I have dropped only two phones with enough force to merit repairs or replacement. And both of those times I was groggy from an antihistamine.

What's your record?

By all means trust a case if you want to. I put my trust in myself and my awareness.
Hoping you keep having good luck.

Pfft, me, I drop it twice a month! lol. I think I'd probably be okay without a case, but I prefer to use one. Definitely always using tempered glass on the screen too.

Oh, I would never argue that I don't drop it. That'd be a flat out lie. What I was arguing earlier was that I've only dropped two phones sufficiently to need repair or replacement.

I never meant to imply that I do not drop my phones at all. But I do try and mitigate any potential drops by adhering to the set of rules I've created for myself.

Got it. no worries bro. I envy your policy because... it's so nice to gaze at your iPhone naked. They look so beautiful.

I’ve tried to force myself to use one of the three Apple Silicone Cases that I have in the last two months. Today went caseless again: a never ending dichotomy for me 😂

It just feels right, really. :)

Nothing in between you and the device. Of course, when it's 100+ degees F out here in Phoenix, it doesn't always feel so great holding a metal and glass phone outside, LOL!

I have an ultra-marine silicon case and I love it. I'm glad they offer this in a 16 Pro case, if not color of the phone itself.

Since paying out over £1200 for my 16PM, this is the first time I have used a case, and a screen protector. I intend on keeping this phone for a few years, at least until the iPhone 20, and I want to keep it in tip-top concition.

I still love and prefer the feel of quality naked iPhone in the hand though!
