I just like keeping my iPhones in perfect condition...always have done.
How would you know? I mean without taking it out of the case - how would you know it's in perfect condition?

Not being facetious, just curious.

Is it mainly just the security of 'knowing' that it's in perfect condition specifically because you have it cased?

Occasionally, like every few months, I clean the inside of the case as tiny bits of dust shows up behind the screen protector (the case "sweats" and obviously isn't 100% dust-free when I put it on, so after a while, dust appears).

I don't know...I just like keeping my devices perfect. Always have done.

Everybody has their own thing. I'm never truly comfortable with the stuff I own until some slight damage or defect happens or exists. My thinking is that makes the item unique to me - and then I just get on with my life. Overall though, I like the 'patina' that comes from stuff being used over time.

But then I like industrial design, so there's that. :)

I'm not ever purposely damaging anything to achieve that though. In May 2022 I dropped my 11 Pro Max. Shattered the back glass and cracked the front screen. Apple replaced under AC+ and I got a 'remanufactured' phone that was less than a month old at the time. Haven't worried about my phone since.

That's fair enough.

I've always looked after stuff. Sure, if it breaks I can get a new one tomorrow, I just like keeping it nice. It's hard to explain.

For me, the camera is one of the least used features, so I've never cared about it getting scratched. I don't intentionally scratch it, but I'm rarely using it to record/take a picture of anything important.
Well luckily the actual lenses never got scratched, it was just the surrounding metal rings that took that abuse lol.

No, I get it. It's that struggle to keep something perfect that always has/had me on edge. The slight scratch or something else relieved me of that anxiety.

Which is not exactly the same thing as you, but I understand it.

For me, the stuff my parents always got me was used or secondhand. My sister always got the new stuff. So, it wasn't ever truly 'mine' until there'd been a nick or scratch or something that I put there.

It is not about perfectness for but that deep scratch on the screen is visible and makes for less refined experience like scratched new dark car.
Also the frame becomes sharp dents after dropping outside.

I get that. That's what I'm like with my car. It's impossible to keep it mint as a daily driver, and it annoyed me, so I've given up.
To add to that, don’t see myself buying a shiny car while living in apartments - unscratched car deserves own driveway, got to many dings at my apartment parking rather than work parking.

No; it's not as I'm the same... It's OCD

Plus I hate it if a device I have gets marked/damaged. Really annoys me!

I've bought 2nd hand before described as immaculate; they weren't... I don't do it any more

Buy them new or not at all

Like you I take my devices out their cases every so often to blow out the case and wipe the device down etc; the cases do attract a lot of dust inside etc

Same again!

We've just bought a 'new to us' BMW touring and we were going to sell the wifes Racing Jazz

But I'm just about to get my car to my pal who has a respected bodyshop to sort the front/rear bumpers out and a few stone chips on the front etc

My wife works at the local Uni; so were keeping the Jazz now as we're not as precious about that and if it gets dinged/marked, I can soon get that sorted. But don't want that to happen to the BMW touring and seeing as I work from home permanently; it'll stay fresh once my pals waved his bodyshop wand over it 😂

I prefer to keep mine out of the case to use as it feels nicer to hold (13PM), however I have a clear case that my partner bought for me and use that when going out anywhere as I’d rather the extra protection in case I drop it. I do have AppleCare+ though, so not too concerned.

I was always envious of the colorful 5C. Perhaps that’s why I chose Apple Silicone cases in bright colors for my 12 mini and 13 mini.

I always cased my iPhones for the simple reason that I do drop it frequently and also I am a retired aircraft mechanic that worked in a industrial setting (since retired five years ago) but still work on vehicles (former job before I was a aircraft mechanic). Since the phone is in my environment it is protected by otter box defender.

Dropped my iPhone 13 on a concrete pavement today after exiting my car with some packages in my other hand… I luckily had it in a 2 piece protective case with rubber bumpers which resulted in zero damage. Phew!

I DO use cases, but not for protection, rather for Friction.

I find the iPhones too slippery to use comfortably. Also my in-car magsafe lets the phone spin around and rotate on a naked phone.

But you see, it's still protection against a slippery phone dropping out of your hand.

I wonder how many of you rock the iPhone, or other devices without a case. I myself am someone who does not use a case. This has to do with the fact that those things often leave small scratches on the housing.

First time been case-less for more than a month. Been weird, but feels good. I do have screen protector.

A good quality case won’t scratch the phone, personally I go through phases of using a case and not… but I have AppleCare+ so I’m covered no matter what.

Every case scratches a phone eventually if you don't remove dust or other things between the bezels.

I'll take the risk of minor scratches over a visit to the Genius Bar.
