Apple silicone case IMMEDIATELY upon purchase. And a tempered glass screen protector installed by the Apple sales rep using special jig they have the before the phone leaves the table. I've never gotten a scratch from a genuine Apple case.

I've always used LifeProof FRĒ (or OtterBox as they are now) cases on my iPhones.

Every case scratches a phone eventually if you don't remove dust or other things between the bezels.
So remove the dust and lint?

I clean my phones every 2 weeks and never had a scratch on any of them since my first iPhone in 2016. It’s not exactly challenging to keep a phone pristine.

Voted yes as I have the Peel utra thin Case on my 14 Pro. This is the first year that I have used a case on my iPhone. The case, while thin, has helped with a couple times when I dropped my phone though.

I'll take the risk of minor scratches over a visit to the Genius Bar.
My 6s+. which I got in September 2015, has never been in a case. I took it to the genius bar once - in November 2021 for a brand new battery.

Just because someone doesn't use a case it does not mean they will break their phone.

I wonder how many of you rock the iPhone, or other devices without a case. I myself am someone who does not use a case. This has to do with the fact that those things often leave small scratches on the housing.

No. I do not use cases.

A good quality case won’t scratch the phone, personally I go through phases of using a case and not… but I have AppleCare+ so I’m covered no matter what.
The case might not, but any dust or grit between the case and the phone will.

Nonsense, do you really think that a piece of dirt takes into account how often you clean your phone? I'm already willing to bet that I clean my phone more than yours. The point is that as soon as dirt gets between the case and the housing, and it has no freedom of movement, it immediately starts to scratch.

Probably untrue. Like I said, I have never had a scratched phone before and I have had iPhones for 7 years. I used an SE 2016 for 9 months in 2022 which had a cheap gel clear case and it was very rare to see trapped dirt or lint stuck on the sides. The phone is still in pristine “as new” condition. You would have to be very unlucky to have lint or dirt scratch your phone within 2 weeks of cleaning it.

Sounds like user error to me.

No, what you are describing is probably untrue. Nobody is talking about a time frame of within two weeks that scratches can occur. However, it is categorically untrue that a phone cases cannot cause scratches by itself. That has nothing to do with a wrong user case. It is well known that a case can cause damage. Their are many articles about this.

Bought this before the phone, iPhone 14 PM, arrived:
Has never been out of it. Also has a screen protector on it.

I disagree. The probability of such an event occurring within a 2 week timeframe is extremely low. iPhones have a durable paint coat designed to protect against such damage so it is unlikely that a user will accrue as much lint & dirt to cause abrasive damage within such a limited timeframe.

Your pockets must be filthy, mine aren’t.

What is your argument anyway?

Nothing you are saying makes any sense. Either you use a case and clean it out to prevent the damage you’ve described, or you can go case-free which means your phone has no protection vs abrasive or drop damage.

Cases cannot cause damage without dirt or lint rubbing against the inside frame & the phone. If you are going to stoop to such a pathetic argument, we are done conversing. Like I said, I have owned a 6S, 2x SE16s, 8, 12 Mini and a 13. Not a single scratch on any unit and I have been using cases religiously.

The only one who makes absolutely no sense is you. You are ignorant and you are also completely wrong with your assumptions. I can already tell you that my pockets are much cleaner than yours. I'm obsessive about that and you have absolutely no idea what you're saying. Your way of thinking that the coating Apple uses would be so "special" from others, only shows that you live in a very small fantasy world. You only have to look on Google search to see how wrong you are.

Everything you say makes no sense. I already indicated that I do not use a case, with the above arguments. It's up to you whether you want to bury your head in the sand. if you had actually read the topic carefully, you could also have found that others have the same opinion. Who are you kidding now. It's also impossible to avoid micro-scratches over such a time frame. Shine a light directly on it and your whole ridiculous argument falls. You're kidding yourself, that's for sure.Anway, believe in your own fairy tale.

Absolutely. Every phone we get immediately goes into an Otterbox and a screen protector is applied.

With a giant puppy and 4 clumsy people in the house the cases are a necessity. Hubby cracks his screen protector and the kids drop their phones regularly but the phones are always in perfect physical condition after 4-5 years of use.

I currently use an apple leather case on my 14 Pro with a Spigen glass screen protector and I’m perfectly fine with it. But I will say there is something so absolutely freeing about not having to spend money on a case or a screen protector just using the phone without any extra accessories. However, I did that with my 12 pro and it looked like crap, by the time I turned it in.

Damn thing just wanted to slip out of my pockets at every second lol. My current set up is probably the most minimal set up without having to worry about my phone being protected if it should fall out of my pocket or slip out of my hand.

Do you do that for maximum trade in or sale value?
It certainly helps us get the highest possible trade in but I know without tough cases we’d have shattered screens. We drop phones multiple times a week in this house.

I was at the Tower of London on Monday and was stood outside the toilets waiting for my wife and kids on a cobbled road area when a young lad who was sitting on a curb, dropped his purple iPhone 14 Pro from about 300mm. The shortest of drops and on the back of the phone by the lightning port he had shattered the back glass all the way up the length of the phone. He was then wiping it frantically with his fingers in disbelief hoping to wipe away the cracks and looking at his Dad who looked like he wanted to kill him lol. I was secretly smug with the reaffirmation that this is the reason I put a case on my phone and don’t risk stuff like that. I haven’t got the time to be getting a phone replaced every week and it would be a pointless waste of money topping up the excess premiums.

That's great, but it won't cover minor scratches or cosmetic damage.
If that's OK with you, then I'm good with it.
If scratches start to bother me, I'll simply smash my phone into the concrete a couple of times to the point that it is damaged beyond repair, and they'll replace it
