Hi.

Can someone help me please. I have a Macbook Pro M2 MAX connected to a Caldigit TS4 dock. I am currently trying to get the CableMatters 102103-BLK-1.8 Displayport to HDMI cable working at 120hz on my LG C2. When connected to the displayport on the TS4 I only get 60hz and the aspect resolution is all over the place.

I understand from looking at this thread that the cable may need a firmware update but how do I need to connect it in order to do the update. The MBP doesnt have a displayport connector and my only windows machine has HDMI out. Would the cable have to be connected to a displayport to do the update and directly to the machine.

If I connenct the MBP directly to the LG C2 with a 2.1 cable everything works perfectly. As soon at the TS4 dock is introduced then it all goes wrong.

Thank you in advance.
You might bought the wrong adapter. It should be hdmi to type c then update it through type c port that also has display port

Just registered to report that I flashed a VMM7100 through Virtualbox with an (old) Win10 Image on my Intel MacBook Pro from 2016 successfully. Hints:

  • Use the Microsoft Store version of VmmHIDTool
  • Don't forget to activate the USB ports of your Win Image and additionally activate the port every time up you boot the Win image (drove me crazy)
  • Follow the instructions from the PDF in the zip file from OP
Now using the MacBook Pro M1 pro with the LG C2 42", seeing/using the 120Hz option, waking up from sleep (even with closed lid), all good. Only thing I haven't found yet: Where can I see if I get the RGB4:4:4 10b HDR? The LG menu is still confusing, at least I found that unintuitive "click the symbol and change it to PC thing" :D

Thanks @AironMan for putting this together, silently refreshing this thread since three weeks ;)

They are still working on firmware for that adapter. Customer service said it would be coming soon.

Thanks, I update the OP with this new Adapter

u can test if its working when u use an EDID that force RGB.
It's now "RGB 10b 4L10" I have no idea what I did. I did change aspect ratio in LG C2 Picture Settings to Original and Just Scan to on to fix Overscan issues that I noticed. But I don't relaly notice too much of a difference from YCBCR to RGB, I may even prefer how text looks on YCBCR.

Thanks for reply! Forgot to mention, a HDMI cable (2.1 certified) is connected from dongle to my LG C2.
I do not believe the VMM6100 is able to be updated via Parallels, only VMM7100.

If you've gotten it to work please share, but it was never possible in my testing. If this is the case, the pinned instructions in Post #1 may need to be updated to make this more clear.

I was also unable to flash 2 of the I believe VMM6100 adapters (201388, the slightly longer non "-A" version) and 1 of the CM usb-c -> hdmi cable variant (I believe also VMM6100 by the length of the adapter) with 3 different macs through Parallels.

However I've got a different brand usb-c - hdmi cable with VMM7100 which can be flashed and works as long as the macbook display is active. The VMM6100 is recognised as an "USB 2.0 billboard device" and the update tool won't start.

hi all,

as an fyi - I have a CableMatters usb-c (male) to hdmi (male) cable, not an adapter alone (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B08QDV5H4M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1) with VMM7100.
I used the most recent firmware from the @AironMan 's original post.
I now have full 5120x1440@120hz with HDR (Samsung odyssey neo g9), via native settings app, no BetterDisplay, on my M1 MB Air and M1 Max MBP 16".
So far no screen flashes or random picture losses.
Appreciate ya'll's hard work!

Gato
I can confirm that this cable works for me too (macbook pro m1).

Thanks for all your work!

Its looks like Samsung TV are different. Do you have an LG or Samsung ? U have also to check if ure on RGB 4:4:4. The 201362 i tested only reach 4:2:2 or 4:2:0

Sorry but I didn't mention that I've tested it on Gigabyte monitor M28U. There is no such info in monitor menu. Can I check it somewhere else?

I've set up native 4K resolution without scaling on MacBook and last two lines are readable but comparing to usb-c - usb-c cable, the text is a little less sharp so looks like it's only 4:2:2. I would have to try 201398-BLK in this case.

@AironMan - will there be a suitable firmware update for the VMM6100 version as well that works without EDID Override? Did CM say anything as you corresponded with them? :) Sorry if this was asked already.

CM will not release a Firmware for this because its an outdated hardware version. U can use the EDID override for an VMM6100

@AironMan - by the way, do you think we can expect firmware for cable 201362 to support RGB 4:4:4?
I dont have this Cable anymore, u have to contact them and ask for a Firmware. The last Firmware does not work correctly. CM does also not send me a example for testing, so this is done for me. I will not spend more time in 201362 anymore since there are another Adapters that works really fine.

What do you mean? You have no more working solution for 4k/120Hz on your MacBook? Using something else now?

They asked him a question about a cable to obtain 4K 120 but he said since there’s working solutions already he does not want waste his time messing around with one that does not work.

@AironMan Just fyi, I bought 201398-BLK and unfortunately it does not work with Gigabyte M28U. I tried different HDMI cables. Looks even worse than 201362 so probably it's 4:2:0. Is there anything that I can do more?
