Just applied the new firmware to my 7100 adapter & without touching anything once plugged in I can confirm full RGB 10 bit 120 Hz, and the same during HDR! Has anyone figure out how to get audio higher than 48KHz?

6100 is discontinued and hard to get, but was fully working at 120. 7100 is pretty much all you can get if you buy new on Amazon, and up until the other day was limited in functionality, but now both seem to be able to do 4K 120 RGB 10 bit.

I just got home and was able to test the cable matters usb-c to female HDMI 2.1 adapter with the VMM7100. I can confirm it is working. I have 4k, 120hz with 10bit color. No EDID edit at all. Fantastic work.

Now I'm just really sad that I spend so much money trying to get the 6100 version.

I should mention that since I have the ability to flash these devices, I would be willing to sell them to other members on here if someone is in need of a working adapter. I have extras at this point.

VMM7100 working 4K:120:10bitRGB:444 after firmware here.

Very pleased as I can update the 7100 via Parallels (Probably VMWare as well, but haven't tried?). My Windows computer doesn't have USB-C/DP to update the 6100, so that's another huge advantage for the 7100 and Mac users.

Today I installed Parallels on my Mac Studio M1 Max along with Windows 11. I have been using the Cable Matters VMM7100 successfully with 120.0Hz and YCBCR444 8b 4L8. Now I want to upgrade the firmware with the one you just flashed. When I run the VmmDPTool64.exe from Windows 11/Parallels on my Mac, the pop-up window for VmmTool reports "Initialize GPU library failed." Is there a workaround to successfully run the tool in this environment?

A couple of weeks ago, I had access to a Windows computer to originally flash the adapter. Now I'm trying it from my Mac. Thanks.

I downloaded the Microsoft Store version of VmmHIDTool. When I run it the error "Spyder chip is not connected" appears. When I run the VmmDPTool64 from the Microsoft Store I receive the "Initialize GPU library failed" error.

The VmmHIDTool will work, it is the only one that will on a Mac.

If you are getting the Spyder chip not connected error then you have not correctly passed the 7100 into Windows. You can adjust this from the USB devices settings in Parallels, or I believe the default Parallels behaviour is to ask you which machine you want it connected to when you plug it in, so you could also just disconnect/reconnect with Windows running and choose Windows.

I have not confirmed if the 7100 needs a display connected to it to work, I think (can't remember?) I was able to update it without a display connected to it, but I know the 6100 did need a display connected to be active.

Success! 120.0Hz. FIXED. 3840 x 2160P@120. RGB 10b 4L10.
As you suggested, I associated the USB (thunderbolt) port on my Mac M1 with Parallels. Then ran VMMHIDTool. I now have Firmware version: 7.02.112 installed in my VMM7100.
I had the Cable Matters adapter 201388-A connected to an LG OLED C2 during the flash process. Thank you.

It is also stable after shutting the monitor off and back on again. It remains RGB 10b 4L10. Prior to this latest flash, everytime that I recycled the monitor power I had to toggle the refresh rate using BetterDisplay to regain "444". That's no longer necessary.

I can confirm, the firmware runs my LG C2 with 4k@120 RGB 10b 4L10. I have the Anker Adapter with the VMM7100 Chip. Very nice, thank you so much!

For some reason, after waking Mac Studio, now I am back to 8bit color. Using new 7100 firmware. Is there a way to fix? I feel that better display is wonky. I also noticed it had set itself back to using custom IDID after I turning it off. That seems like unintentional behavior on the part of better display.

The 8bit showing in BD or SRX is not correct. But this is an MacOS bug we think. Its also present when I connect my Pro Display XDR

Thanks for the new FW, it's almost working here as well :)

I've bought 2 of the 201388-GRY from UK Amazon and neither is recognised as a USB device no matter what I do so I can't update the FW. They both work apart from that and I can get 120hz with a new EDID (but it's not stable that way). I've tried from an M1, M1 pro and Intel mac through parallels.

I've got this USB-C - HDMI cable which has VMM7100 and worked straight away, managed to update it with the new FW. Seems to be perfectly stable 120hz RGB 10b as long as the macbook display is open. I get no picture when it's closed however, this was working prior to the FW update.

Anyone else had issues with the adapter not being recognised?

Does it finally work? Plz use an HDMi 2.1 Cable.
it was a un branded MOSHOU cable from Aliexpress. for some reason the CX EDID wasn't working even after modifying it. Tried on a LG B2, modified its' EDID, and then it worked no problem; weird honestly. Took the B2's EDID then tried on the CX and it worked with the MOSHOU cable from Aliexpress and the 'Used - Like New' Cable Matters adapter from Amazon

So both cables now work with both TVs/monitors, problem was with the LG CX for some reason

@kiler129 [ https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...icon-m1-m2-now-possible.2381664/post-32063358 ], have you tried the 201388-GRY with VMM7100 firmware 7.02.112 ?

@freshtest [ https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...icon-m1-m2-now-possible.2381664/post-32036194 ], have you tried this firmware with the 201428-GRY ?

According to the Chongdiantou teardown of the UGreen 90376 [ https://www.chongdiantou.com/archives/143584.html , with no ChargerLab translation, via https://dancharblog.wordpress.com/2...ulti-function-adapters-and-docking-stations-6 ] it seems as though the VIA VL830 [ https://www.viatech.com/en/2021/09/vialabs-announces-launch-of-usb4-endpoint-device-silicon / https://www.via-labs.com/product_show.php?id=114 ] is being used for the in-built USB hub, and then the DisplayPort 1.4a HBR3 output with 32.4Gbps bandwidth and 25.92Gbps data rate is being converted by the VMM7100 to HDMI 2.1. However, neither https://www.ugreen.com/pages/download , https://eu.ugreen.com/pages/download nor https://www.lulian.cn/download/list-32-cn.html [ 绿联 redirected from https://www.ugreen.com.cn ] return results for 90376 or CM500 [ https://www.lulian.cn/product/968-cn.html via https://www.lulian.cn/product/list-6-cn.html ], so one may have to e-mail UGREEN to obtain firmware updates for the VIA VL830 and Synaptics VMM7100.

What would be interesting would be to use a 7.02.112-updated Cable Matters 201388-GRY connected to one of the the USB-C outputs of a hub based on the MSLFORCE 'USB4 Thunderbolt4 Hoover Ridge 5 in 1 HUB 60W Charging' ODM design [ https://www.mslforces.com/cable-and-adapter/usb4-thunderbolt4-hoover-ridge-5-in-1-hub-60w.html ] using the Intel JHL8140 chipset. I've also seen mention of the ASMedia ASM4242 and ASM2464PD.

I note that, for the VMM7100 under 'USB-C Protocol Converters for Video Adapters / Motherboard' at https://www.synaptics.com/products/video-interface-ics , "USB-C / DP HBR3 receiver port" is stated. However, for the VMM8100 under 'Integrated USB-C products for Video and Data Accessories', only "USB-C receiver port with integrated De-Mux" is stated. Hopefully this means that DisplayPort 2.1 with UHBR 10 (40Gbps bandwidth, 38.685Gbps data rate) will be supported. Although "1 USB3.1 re-timer transmitter/receiver port" functionality" is listed, I note that "USB-PD controller and Billboard" is *not*, so presumably this means that a 201428-style product with 100W USB power passthrough is not supported - although has anyone had any communication with Synaptics, either directly or via Cable Matters, that confirms that this is the case (and, indeed, when VMM8100-based products will go on sale)?

Also, NAB 2023 has just started. Does anyone have any idea when the Parade PS195 and PS196 will be available in retail products? I wonder if the difference in model numbers refers to a full-size DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort plug, or to a DisplayPort and USB Type-C plug, on the source side. However, the initial press release only stated that "the DP receiver supports up to 4 lanes at the HBR3 (8.1Gbps) link rate" and "the HDMI output supports up to 4 lanes of FRL at 12Gbps data rate per lane" so presumably it will only be competing against the Synaptics VMM7100 in performance, not functionality.

What we really need is a converter with HDMI 2.1a [with working QMS support, unlike the faulty Nuvoton KM864807, Analog Devices ADV7674 and presumably Cypress CYP chipsets in current AVRs and pre-amps / processors, according to Jeff Park, CTO of HDMI Licensing: https://www.heise.de/hintergrund/HD...-bei-einigen-HDMI-Geraeten-nicht-7566152.html / https://www.avsforum.com/threads/3199232 ] on the sink side and full-fat DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR 20 (80Gbps bandwidth, 77.37Gbps data rate) on the source side (for use on the Mac Pro 2019 pending macOS driver support: an DP or mDP plug for the AMD Radeon PRO W7900 or W7800, if an MPX version with native HDMI 2.1a 48Gbps output is not released; or a USB4.0 2.0 Thunderbolt 5 plug with 120Gbps bandwidth and 116.055Gbps downstream data rate, pending confirmation, for future-proofing when used with the AMD Radeon RX 7900 XTX and XT, hopefully with 240W 48V @ 5A USB PD 3.1 v1.7 EPR passthrough.

Otherwise, users of the AMD Radeon PRO W7900 or W7800 will be limited to using a monitor with a DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20 input (unavailable in OLED as of April 2023, as far as I am aware) and an Allion / VESA-certified DP80 cable [currently the full-sized to full-sized BizLink 1637 / P0000025-DDC100 / 117H0-089468-R1 1m Coaxial and 117H0-091362-R1 1m Twist-Pair, and mini-sized to full-sized BizLink 1641 / P0000025-DMC100 / 117H0-078928-R1 0.8m Coaxial and 117H0-089463-R1 0.8m Twist Pair: https://www.displayport.org/product-category/cables-adaptors/?ps=DP80 / https://vesa.org/displayport-developer/certified-components ].

YCbCr 4:4:4 and RGB are essentially identical, they don’t have any subsampling, so it’s the best you can get, yes.
Confirmed working with the newer, smaller, cheaper adapter from CableMatters (20138-BLK), though it is not RGB.

YCBCR444 seems good too, but I'm not sure how to switch between YCBCR444 AND RGB444 to test differences for myself. I thought it would be in MacOS's settings > displays > LG OLED > Color profile, but that didn't change anything in the popup in my first picture.

I hope this answers the question of if the newer adapter works, but it's not RGB!

Maybe someone can chime in how to change it to RGB since I've heard that format is best for computer usage / video streaming. @JWort93

Have you set the input on the TV to "PC"?
