Nope. But because they go out of their way to prevent things working. Nice assumption BTW.Because an unsupported card which works thanks to drivers hack misses features you need?
Absolutely. I like a bit of utility though. I’ll buy their products if I don't get isolated from e rest of the world.I think that's their way: they decide what works (and how) and what doesn't. But they're leaving some doors open sometimes. Problem is that you never know for how long.
Me too. I’ve seen my 5770 to 470 go from 10505 to 87387 on GeekBench4 compute. As for the backplate mine is off too. That piece of plastic set into the aluminium keeps the contacts off the riser cover so that’s insulating enough to prevent problems.Okay, after a little hiccup, I have the RX 480 working. Will post some benchmarks to compare.
As to the the plastic riser issue - I am still unsure how to remove it to fit the card with the included metal backplate. Currently running the card with the backplate removed.
Everyone with unflashed card.
That's interesting. Do you still use FakeSMC or any hackintosh kexts?
maybe i'm just stupid but i'm following the ITSage's Guide https://www.theitsage.com/install-radeon-rx-480-gpu-macos-sierra/. Im stuck on step 5 altering the AMD "R9 XXX" text to replace to RX 480. I find the AMD9500 controller file. I copy it to my desktop search for R9 xxx alter to "RX 480" save the file. (At this point once I save I cannot open this file again) I copy this file back to /System/Library/Extensions/AMD9500Controller.kext/contents/MacOS and over write the old file but every time I save the package always gets corrupted and doesn't update system about this mac. I then can't open the package again unless i grab my backup copy. I am using iHex to update. Can someone help? What am I missing?
Thank you! I reran Kext utility and rebooted and it worked. Feels complete now! It's been a while but I think you may need to run Kext Utility to repair permissions after the AMD9500Controller mod.
Stupid question about KextUtility………..
When you open the app is asks for admin rights and then says, “Full service for "/System/Library/Extensions” and "/Library/Extensions" folders.”. I’m assuming this means that I don’t need to individually drag modified kernel extensions on it?
Thought so. Lovely, I’d seen lots of posts regarding the app and lots of people said to drag the kexts onto it after modding.Your assessment is correct. The app repairs permissions in those directories so you don't have to drag the modded kext files in it manually.
The 30" requires dual link DVI. What card are you using exactly, and have you thought about trying one of these?I get full resolution but no acceleration

Sapphire RX480 (11260-02-20G) Nitro+ OC 4GB GDDR5 has 2 DP, 2 HDMI and 1 DVI... will all these ports work on Mac too? Are 4K displays supported?
You'd have to try it and update us whether all ports work in 4K @ 60Mhz. The port layout on that GPU is not reference (3 DisplayPort and 1 HDMI).
Thanks for you answer
Does all ports works when using reference cards?
Did somebody tested references cards with one (or more than one) 4K display(s) too?
