Really... because I’m sure if u get this done and water damage occurs apples not going to be responsible

Id like to see u prove it wasn’t put together properly by a technician

Either you didn't read my post correctly or You are severely are misunderstanding, so please ask versus insinuating your own narrative.

Reiterating, if Apple makes a repair under their specifications and guidelines at the store level, then it would not compromise the dust/water resistance, as it would be guaranteed by their own services according To their policy and procedure.

Regardless, water resistance is merely an added layer protection, it's NOT a guarantee for an iPhone based on water damage.

What Apple can't guarantee, are repairs by third-party manufacturers. Because Apple does not know if those third-party manufacturers are following specifications when making battery or display replacements, thus which could result in a compromise of the seals.

Got mine on the launch day and noticed today that my pictures have a blurry spot on them when taking pictures in white/bright environment, and what do I know, when looking at the rear camera then there are small white specs under the glass. Pretty bummed.

Can I see a photo of the speck? Is it in the upper or lower lens?

I have a dust speck also in my camera But it does not bother in photos or show up and I am OCD but to a extent of the time of purchase in time my OCD calms down and for first time I purchased Applecare+ which helped me not be so much OCD knowing I have 2 years of any defect or dead pixels I'll get a replacement... I have 3 small specks behind my screen protector it bothered at first because you can notice them when you are very close to the phone but I am never that close any how, but learned to ignore them and just go on its a phone guys it shouldn't control us, I understand its a expensive product but can't expect perfection. Just get Applecare+ and if it is indeed causing problems just get a new one when time comes.

Jus got my unit yesterday. Sprint 64gb ss. Screen-gate=perfect, cracklegate=non existent, dustgate=none. Seems as if some of the quality issues are resolved. Or I jus got lucky.

Mine didn't show it until 4th day. Believe me, I was looking. Carry it around in your pocket for awhile and check it often. I still think dust got in. Can't imagine this many phones with something intruding during the manuf process and THEN even though it is a white speck against a dark background, only suddenly showing up in front of the cameras in that shallow space. I believe it got in later.

View attachment 740786 Just bought my iPhone X and Lo and behold there’s a very obvious flake of dust or whatever it is behind the camera lens. it’s quite prominent and is an obvious manufacturing defect. Apple support says I can’t exchange the set at an Apple store because it’s tied to my mobile carrier. My mobile carrier says it’s not their problem cos it’s a manufacturing defect. it’s unbelievable that Apple’s most expensive phone has such poor build q.c. And even worse, I’m stuck with it.

Anyone with a speck also have a microscope? I'd love to know more about it. I said mine looked a piece of brown grass or maybe cigar ash (ahem...... But from my screen dust gathering thread, I wonder if it could be an accumulation of very fine dust that got in from the microphone hole. A microscope might also tell us if there is any apparent ingress from another area of the phone into the camera housing. Maybe it's a flake of some adhesive used in/near the camera?

That might be a good idea to know what these foreign objects are, actually.

But there is a lot water test on youtube, none of them reported any issues, if air can get in , water can get in as well, I think phone is properly sealed including lenses, dust was there during assembly of devices

I wish this is true to all and all the iPhone Xs in the videos you watched can be a sample to represent all iPhone X..

But unfortunately, watch this til the end ..

So it still seems possible that some devices like mine that gets dust starting to appear after days of use have seals compromised or had issues while assembling.

Pre-existing dust should not move inside so easily in just few days (2 days for me from none to quite a few) when there is vacuum / no air in it — unless dropped (mine did not).

But nevertheless, I should only get mine replaced/fixed (within the warranty period) when it starts to worsen / affect performance — for now it’s just cosmetic. Especially for now when it’s quite a common issue for current (few?) batches of iPhone Xs.

Unless I get mine dropped in water and face the same consequence as this guy in the video! But perhaps it’s the steamy water that also ruined his iPhone X’s seals. ‍♂️

I googled what iPhone replacements in white boxes are — whether they are new or refurbished. So it can be either but they go through extra levels of inspections compared to new ones that are in normal retail boxes. Not sure if they are valid statements.

So to those of you who got their replacements, do they come in white boxes? And if they do, do they have dust as well in the camera lens and thus you get another replacement over a replacement?

White box replacement iPhones are iPhones that were likely used in some form or fashion. They go through an inspection of receiving a new casing, battery, and display. They Automatically come with a one-year warranty, so if there was a defect, it would be covered assuming Apple identifies the defect.

Just got my SIM free silver 256 and it had dust specs and a hair-like bit underneath. I'm pretty OCD, but it didn't affect photos and I didn't want to risk exchanging. However, I noticed that the bottom part of the chassis had a very large gap between it and the display assembly. I was able to put a piece of paper in there freely.

I looked at my boyfriend's X and found NO gaps, but he did have two or three specs of dust. I think as long as they don't affect photo quality, I wouldn't worry about it, but that gap was enough to be concerned about. I had him exchange mine for another retail one. It's at home. I will post once I find out if the issue persists.

I don't think the gap is or should be normal. I've looked at 3 other iPhone Xs and none of them had the extra gap. Frankly, I didn't pay $1200 to hope for water resistance. It's IP67 certified and therefore shouldn't have an issue with an occasional splash. Seeing a gap this big on only one side of the device makes me question it.

First, I was given a defective screen, now there are dusts inside my camera lens. WTH is wrong with Apple? :(
We don’t have any apple stores in my country so exchange program is not an option. I have to wait for 30 days or more to get my iPhone replaced. My iPhone 7 had dead pixels before and I waited for about 2 months to get the replacement. For a $1000 phone, this sucks! :(

At any given time, look at the camera and see how many specs of dust you have on the outside... none of it affects picture quality because it's simply too close and too small. Two small pieces of dust are fine. It won't affect it. The thing on the screen though... that's instant replacement.

What worries me is that one dust is actually on the sensor, but I am hoping that it would not affect the quality of the photos in the future.

It sad that we paid so much for the iPhone just to have a dust inside the camera lens, but I guess we cannot expect perfection from apple, they manufacture millions of phones, so I guess these things are quite normal.

What worries me is actually the dust on the camera sensor. I am afraid that it might affect the quality of the photos in the future. Based on your profile picture, I believe we live in the same country. It sucks that we do not have apple stores to have it replaced. We’d have to wait for a month or two for the replacement to arrive if we push through the warranty replacement thingy.

just see if it doesnt affect or if it will just return it.yeah the quality control on the new apple devices are pretty bad this time around.it sucks paying 1200 for a phone that has dust on the camera, gap on the screen and the band and most of all screen banding.if you did not check your screen yet you should some people actually have worst display banding than mine

Photos are good with mine. Hopefully in the future it would stay that way. We still have 11 months of service warranty though, so I guess we have to live with it and enjoy our phones for now. My screen is fine especially on minimum brightness.
There are plenty of problems with the iPhone X right now. I believe apple rushed the production that’s why we consumers are experiencing these stuff. I bet the next batch of iPhones would be better.

UPDATE:

I had my boyfriend exchange my phone because I am clearly cursed with Apple stuff (doesn't help that I'm too OCD) and the replacement is great! No gaps around the bands, one or two TINY specs of dust under the camera, but no hair-looking things. They don't affect pictures either, so I'm happy.

Nice one I had so many bad iphones in the pass (7) iphone 6 exchanges (4) iphone 5s exchanges.
I thought this year i will be doing the iphone exchange lottery again.
Susprised my iphone x arrived perfect no dust under screen or camera lens no dead/stuck pixels.
Enjoy your phone

you always have dust and finger prints out side, it won't impact photo quality, but dust inside is really annoying

I'm always picky and it will either have dead pixel, something will rattle too much, or something will be dinged. This one is my third one. First one was a release day one that had 3 dead pixels clustered in one spot. I waited a month till SIM free came out and it had the dust and excessive gap. This one has no issues that are significant enough. I'm happy :)

Just wondering, are you guys concerned of shallow pink shifts on your screens?

As in if you tilt the phone just slightly from straight on view of screen, it turns annoying pink or has pink edges. Annoying when you view those with white backgrounds like Instagram.

I had my first iPhone X replaced due to that.. all 3 demos have it. 1 demo doesn’t. My current one doesn’t.

So I guess I’ll stick with it despite some dust in camera and a super tiny speck of dust under the screen which doesn’t show up when screen is on, and only can be seen when screen is off only when you look for it.

To find the non-annoying-pink-shifts seems hard for me to take a chance on..

My first iPhone X has pink (rainbow-ish) shifts also, but it was replaced the same day that I bought it due to a dead pixel under the notch.
I’ve tried to compare my iPhone X with the store models, and the only thing that I noticed was my true tone was more “yellowish” (full brightness). It doesn’t bother me though, I’m good with my phone aside from the two specks of dust also in the camera lens and sensor. 5F71BC32-6E76-4225-8EFA-DD7540A0D6D0.jpeg
