Many of us are upset that the iPhone SE has been discontinued. I sent Tim Cook an email this morning about it at his email address: tcook@apple.com

Please take a minute and drop him a polite, respectful email and encourage him to release an updated iPhone SE soon for those of us who prefer a smaller phone.

Hopefully, if enough of us request it Apple might reconsider its decision to discontinue the iPhone SE. Not everybody wants a big phone, and it would be great if Apple continued to support the SE.

Thanks, and let's hope Apple changes its mind soon.

So....should we send an email even if we aren’t disappointed the SE is gone?

Help me figure out what to do!!

There is literally only a handful of people who wants an SE, hence why they are discontinuing it. People just need to go with an iPhone 7 or 8. We’re evolving..

How do you know it's only a "handful?" The SE SHINES as a phone. Yes, the screen it harder to read, but it's a PHONE. Easy to carry. Would I buy one? Maybe. Did I own the original one. Yes.

I do keep a backup phone mainly for travel. I pop my sim in it and I'm good to go. At the moment, I do this with my old 6S, but would prefer to use a 5SEX. In fact, if I was Tim Cook, that's what I would call it.

Disclaimer, I just ordered the XS.

Carriers still stock the SE and will until they've run out of stock. The carriers sign contracts with Apple that compels them so buy a certain amount of iPhones from Apple. You can't just got to Apple and say "I'll try to sell some iPhones, we'll see how it goes". You sign up for say a million iPhones and that's what they will deliver to you and that's also what you will pay them. At least, this was the case a while ago. But I suspect it's still true because the only thing more costly than selling the iPhone is not selling it. The customer drain would be epic. And as the contracts are usually expensive, carriers would lose a lot of good customers. No one can afford that.

I don’t believe Apple would still list it on their website if the carriers were just liquidating stock. I think Apple is still manufacturing these phones, albeit in limited quantities. They just contracted a new plant in India last year reportedly just to build SEs, likely for the emerging international markets, but that means they can still supply domestic retailers.

Apple simply didn’t want to carry such old products in their flagship retail stores, but they haven’t discontinued it.

I really love what Apple has done this year with the XS and XR - but I just want a smaller phone & one smaller than my 7.

So I expect that my contributions to Apple’s quarterly returns this year will confinue to be £0.79 a month for 50GB iCloud Drive space.

I may be tempted by an iPad with a Smart Keyboard with a trackpad however...

Why I am upgrading my 5S to an iPhone SE today.

My iPhone 5S weighs 112g. The iPhone SE weighs 113g, the Xs weighs 177g. That is nearly 57% more mass which means 57% more momentum when it hits the concrete if you drop it. I would be happy to pay $1k+ for a phone with the mass of my 5S if it has all the features of an Xs and if it were smaller than the Xs. The strong sales of the SE when it was introduced is good evidence is that people want a small, light phone. The low price confounds those variables. I strongly suspect that the motivation for killing the SE is to avoid cannibalizing higher priced sales. The experiment has not been done to determine whether there is the market for a small, higher priced phone. To those who say that people don’t want the SE, I say show me the data. It sold very well when it was introduced and hasn’t been significantly updated. I don’t understand those who think I should want what they want. I’m happy that Apple is satisfying those who want large, heavy phones. I and lots of others don’t. I agree that Apple Feedback is the correct place to complain about the demise of the SE. Tim Cook is listening to others who make these decisions and reads, at most, if at all, only a small fraction of his customer email. Reading customer email is delegated to others.
It because mostly apple user experience at the first place .Now, even cheap huawei, xiomi are big phone phablet.

I bought a backup SE tonight. I am really loving my little phone now, it has displaced my 8 Plus, which is now a home-based mini-tablet for me. I didn't want to chance not being able to get a replacement phone, so I grabbed another SE.

Hopefully, I can get by at least the next 3-4 years before needing another small phone. Maybe by then Apple will have something that I can buy that is as ergonomically pleasant to use as an SE.

How is your experience using the 8 Plus as a home-based mini tablet? I tried using an iPhone Plus like that awhile back (main phone was a 5s at the time) as an experimental solution to my frustration with not being able to comfortably hold an iPad mini in one hand. It was a bit too small of course being a phone, and I missed having slide over and picture in picture. But all that was forgivable. The reason the Plus didn’t work out for me in the end was because it wasn’t designed to be a complementary device the way that iPads and iPod touches are—namely no Continuity features. The dealbreaker for me was that it didn’t forward text messages and phone calls from my main phone (at all or reliably, I can’t remember). This was a problem for me because I dock my phone when I get home and carry my mini tablet around as a phone replacement. I think I had another issue with one or two of my apps not working on two different phones, but not sure about that. In the end though, I went back to the mini, which overall is a great device.

It works okay for me, I use it in the bedroom sometimes and here and there in other rooms.

FWIW I am on the other side of the camp, I would love a 7”+ iPhone but I feel your pain. Would love to see several sizes, maybe in a few more years.

I can appreciate somebody wanting to reach out to the CEO of a company, because Apple has been known to respond to customers sometimes in situations like this, even though they may not divulge too many details. But Apple has made it clear that the SE is not part of their future in the current form that it is now. Will they ever revamp something in the future that we don’t expect? Absolutely , as this company is unpredictable.

I am hoping that they phase out the SE name now, because they want to make the small form factor a part of the main line, ie. an "XS Mini" or whatever. But since it wasn't announced this time around, I am not getting my hopes up. "XR Mini" would still be possible though.

I believe there's quite substantial market for SE sized phone and Apple realizes this. You can easily see it in marketshare stats (SE is almost as popular as X in many countries). However there are several obstacles to tackle.

First of all, making any device smaller is problematic from the engineering standpoint. Making 3,5" and 4" iPhones was much more difficult than today's iPhones. Shrinking today's iPhone tech (especially edge to edge displays) to the size of SE is probably possible, but costly. I think Apple would be able to do that but..

..they really don't have to. Most Apple fans I know will buy these new devices, even if they complain at first. That's why they probably decided to kill this size despite working on it for some time (remember all those leaks of SE2?).

I'd pay a lot for iPhone Xs shrunk down to the size of SE.

I wish it were just about naming convention, but given that the SE has not been discontinued and merely dropped from Apple run retail stores, it’s likely about maximizing profits for the 1st quarter earnings, by eliminating the lowest end, lowest margin products as an option.

And they might also use it as a gauge to see how many former 4/5/SE customers upgrade to a larger phone where the SE isn’t part of the lineup, which would give them valuable information about how many XEs to plan for, or cancel altogether.
