You are going to laugh about that? Really?
They should be laughed at. If you say “I’m smart enough to go on my own outside of Apple’s App Store”, you darn well better understand Apple will not be able to help you if you download some malware from a third-party store. Even my HTC Thunderbolt from 2011 had a warning about installing apps from outside the then Android Marketplace.

Crazy how he cries about Apple's 30% Tax without realizing that if he had never broken the TOS in the first place, he would have made more money instead of wasting it on lawyer fees. I read somewhere that Fortnite on iOS brought in $700 MILLION. Why would you even risk getting banned from a platform that generates close to a billion in revenue. Epic's CEO is pretty dumb
But epic has technically won in regards to getting their own store on iOS as that what he wanted all along

Epic Games today announced plans to bring the Epic Games Store to iOS in the European Union, with Apple reinstating the company's developer account.

In its 2023 Year in Review, Epic said that it received its Apple Developer Account and would soon start developing an alternative app marketplace. The Epic Games Store will launch on iOS in the EU at some point in 2024, and it will provide a way for Epic Games to bring a Fortnite app to iOS once again.

Fortnite was removed from the iOS App Store at the start of the Epic Games v. Apple feud in 2020, and it has been unavailable since then. Epic Games did bring it to iPhones and iPads through Xbox Cloud Gaming and GeForce NOW, but the game has only been accessible through these browser-based services.

Shortly after Apple's alternative app marketplace plan was announced, Epic Games promised that Fortnite would "return to iOS" in Europe, and at the same time, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney lambasted Apple's plan to comply with the DMA. He called it a "devious new instance of Malicious Compliance" and said that the company "strongly reject Apple's twisting this process to undermine competition and continue imposing Apple taxes on transactions they're not involved in."

While working to implement the Epic Games Store on iOS, Epic also plans to continue to "argue to the courts and regulators that Apple is breaking the law."

What goofs they are! Wasting millions, locking fans out of the game as though its popularity will be eternal. I want to sell an item in a store I didn't build, so that means I get to dictate how the store is run. No. You can either sell here or get out. were it up to me, Epic would NEVER get back to the platform. Too ignorant.

Like I said above, Pyrrhic victory. They lost more money on this case than if they just kept going. I think the EU was going to pursue the DMA regardless, so Epic could’ve just waited. Instead it’s been about 4 years without content on the one platform where users are the most affluent and spend the most money.

Well my nephew just got a ps5 to play Fortnite with his friends & he’s young.
They will probably make the money back with their new store

Everything spreads here from EU... Sorrow, incoming.
Maybe? Maybe not.

While I think I’m very informed on global politics, I don’t know if this would become a global thing or not. I will say this though as an American… I doubt we’d see anything like the DMA here. Heck, we don’t even have anything like the GDPR.

Does anyone still care about Epic Games?

To be honest I will not be using any App Store other than Apple's and I definitely will not be side loading any apps. I prefer know that Apple's security works.
"Hi mom/dad/daughter/son, I see you are calling from (other relative's/rommate's/friend's) phone, does this mean you were downloading weird apps again on purpose/unintentionally?"

Coincidence that this happens right after Iger announces that Disney has made a $1.5 billion investment into Epic? I don't think so.

And cue up another 200 posts about the flood of viruses, trojans, locusts, frogs, plague, vermin and devastation about to rain upon the EU... because as we Mac owners know, that's exactly what it's been for us in all of these years of having the very same app choice flexibility in buying apps for our Macs.

I'm on my Mac now and getting robbed blind by the constant viruses and trojans in action at all times.

I wish Apple could have saved me from this by restricting the whole device to only be able use locked down Safari and the Mac App Store

(/s ... obv)

I'll be laughing at posts by people with bricked iPhones crying Apple won't help them.
Sorry, but what a silly and mean-spirited comment. First of all, installing third party apps won’t void any warranties.

You basically need to try to brick your iPhone if you have an Jailbroken phone. If you “brick” it somehow, you restore it from your computer. But that’s in regard to jailbreaking — not even close to what is brought by third party app stores.

Are there any documented cases of Apple refusing to help customers, even if they’ve jailbroken?

I feel sorry for you, who is laughing at imaginary peoples’ imaginary misfortunates that you made up.

Sounds like they were in the Apple App Store, where cons and scams get through their "review" routinely

The better course of action is not ever blindly trust any particular source of content/software.
That literally sets you up to be duped

Talk about biting the hand that feeds. Apple‘s decision to permanently terminate Epic’s developer account was upheld by the courts. Now they turn it back on out of the goodness of their hearts and this is the thanks they get. 🤣
I wonder how much of that decision was due to Disney’s recent investment in Epic.

I‘ll download their App Store and then all their free games from it, deleting them right away, just to contribute to Sweeneybeeneys Core Technology Fee bill.

Alternate App Stores get hit with the 0.50€ on the first install, apps distributed via alternate App Stores require at least 1mil / per year downloads for the fee to take affect. I‘m sure one can rack up quite the bill here.
