Not at all! I would also laugh if someone decided to open up their MacBook, tinker around, and complain how Apple won't fix their mistakes. You voided your warranty.

If you are going to load alternate app stores with zero security, expect zero care from Apple. You know the risk when you download an alternate, shady web store with shady apps.

In what world can you compare tinkering with the inside of a computer to installing a freaking app? Jesus lol.

Is there any evidence which suggests Apple will void the warranties of people who download apps outside the app store? Have they denied service to people who have jailbroken?

I’ve had my phone repaired by Apple for hardware issues, even though I had jailbroke previously.

A bit sad attitude to have because you don’t like a company then I should crash & burn.
If you don’t like the product don’t use them
I actually love games, and Fortnite is a pretty good one. I'm really not a fan of Epic's CEO, because he's going about his quest to open iOS (also something I wouldn't mind) in the dumbest way possible. If there's a way to get him to stop being so insanely obtuse about his supposed "right" to operate within Apple's store in whatever way he wants, great. Let's get that done.

imagine if microsoft could just bar a developer from releasing programs on a widely used general computing device that almost everyone depends on to function in the modern world…

only apple can do that 😌

Did you even follow what Epic did which caused Apple to revoke their game? "Apple has removed Epic Games’ battle royale game Fortnite from the App Store after the developer on Thursday implemented its own in-app payment system that bypassed Apple’s standard 30 percent fee."

You think that's OK?

Apple will not deal with any issues if you go outside the App Store. Why should they?

And Apple shouldn’t help them. They decided they wanted to go outside of Apple’s ecosystem, that’s on them.

Yeah! Just like if you buy an auto part from AutoZone and your car has ANY issues after the fact then that's on you for going outside of Honda. You pay the Honda dealership price or you deserve to have a $40k yard ornament. /s

That's how you sound right now. Maybe slow down licking corporate boots and think about what you're saying. If you're not a member or Apples upper management then you're just wizzing into the wind here.

An app from outside of the app store is NOT going to ruin your phone. Software can easily be wiped and restored so long as Apple doesn't get petty and vengeful for loosing out on profit.

He just accepted 1.5 billion from Disney for 10% of the company due to how poorly they have been doing. If Tim didn't own such a large portion of Epic he would have been fired already (same with the likes of Musk - which is likely coming sooner rather than later)

Does anyone still care about Epic Games?
Epic is more than just Fortnite. A lot of game developers/cgi artist relies on Epic's Unreal Engine.

If Apple never reinstates Epic's developer's account, a lot of cross platform game makers will abandon Apple's comically small gaming market when Epic updates the Unreal Engine on every other platform but Apple's.

Well, we could start off with the fact that installing third party apps won’t void your warranty. Apple has an obligation to honor their warranty.
No, they have no obligation to help any users with any problems relating to installing apps outside of the iOS store.

This thing is DOA anyway. It's going to appeal to less then 1% of the users in Europe who even want to venture out of the iOS store

Don't forget - Epic gets to pay .54 for every user that downloads (free) Fortnite though their alternate store "The company is also introducing a new type of fee for particularly popular apps. The new Core Technology Fee will charge developers €0.50 (around 54 cents) per annual app install; however, this fee only kicks in after a million annual installs in the EU"

Epic realllllly screwed themselves over

Actually MSFT actually did that to us. We got a false positive on Windows Defender for a compiled and EV code signed MSI package for an app that we deploy to our clients.

And that was an MSI package downloaded from a 3rd party web site. Instantly quarantined and deleted on our 22,000 customer machines.

Edit: It took us weeks to get it sorted out. I ended up repacking the application EXE with UPX because that screwed up the binary enough for it to pass through.

Which helps Epic how with Apple? He is not going to be playing on his iPhone or iPad which ones of millions were doing until Tim Sweeny decided to break the rules and ruin it for all Apple users.
No the point I’m making epic & Fortnite are still getting new customers even after being kicked off the mighty Apple

They do not have an App Store at all on iOS as of right now. When they do, it'll only be in Europe and you'll have to convince those folks to even download an epic store to get Fortnite. The base of users went from 100% of all Apple users to less than 1%. Meanwhile, Epic lost out of 4 years of VBUCK sales on the billions of IOS devices.
Yet they are still gaining new customers like I said before.
Within a few months they will have there own epic store on iOS in Europe & will start making money they have not had for 4 years

I've never heard of an app bricking a phone.🙄 The only way to brick your iPhone is if you mess with the firmware, ie try to jailbreak (1000% your fault🤨) or screw up during an update or bleeding edge update😲.

Don't forget the dumbasses as well. The ones that (a) forgot their PIN (b) forgot their iCloud password (c) forgot their email address at the same time. This happened to one family member here and I called him what he was.

So you define "poorly" as a game with 650 million registered players and $4.5 billion in revenue?

so many strange comments defending Apple and talking bad about Epic. I wonder, would you guys defend Apple if they did the same to Mac and completely lock it down? I would love to see that - I'd assume that most of you would change the tune immediately. How hypocritical
The Mac never had an App Store until very late in its lifespan. iPhone is the exact opposite.

For those that care:

In August 2020, Fortnite was possibly at it's biggest point with the launch of a new season featuring some of the biggest Marvel characters (also at a time when Marvel - the MCU - was at its biggest). This is the moment that Epic played their hand. I really think they thought the power of both Fortnite and Marvel would compel Apple to fold.

It did not.

There were minor victories for Epic along the way that some would say benefit developers, but even more so smaller developers.

I cannot imagine how much money Epic left on the table by pulling out of the App Store at that moment. Crazy.

This is why I wish this issue was being handled by parties aside from Tim Sweeney and the EU. There are real questions to be answered here but they are all going about it in a way that’s detrimental to everyone.
