Did you not lose service on your existing Nano SIM after the store scanned the eSIM ICCID?

Basically how did you delay activation?

Actually once the att agent changed the iccid code, your old sim will be out of service immediately, aka "no service". Please connected to wifi before you scan the qr code

Or, can you try to scan the qr code, activate the line at first, then ask att agent changed the sim card in att system? Maybe it work.

So do not try to activate via online chat they will take the EID and IMEI however they will not provide you a QR code or the SM-DP+ address or activation code resulting in no service. I guess off to an AT&T store tomorrow to ether get an eSIM or new physical sim to get my service back.

online chat doesn't work at this time.

EID is not needed. Att only needs to update two numbers: esim imei from your phone, new iccid from your qr sim card.

I will head into my corporate store today they would not give me one until all iOS 12.1 is released they attempted to give me one but they said they can I activate it or make it work if I added a line. Has anyone tried scanning the QR code with the camera app? To see what information it may obtain? Also has anyone tried on android maybe the QR code has the SM – DP address

Camera app doesn't work. I tried. You need to click "add cellular plan" under settings.

Try another store and see how it works. You don't need another line. Or if you already got the esim qr card, you can contact att by phone or online chat, to manually update iccid and imei.

Att needs to update your imei and iccid at first. Otherwise, scan the qr code will only cause "no service" or so.

Nice, still no luck as only one store I have been too has heard of the esim, and they said they sold out of them which is not really believable. Guess I haven't found the right person yet.

Went to Coporate Att store in Orlando and activated for me. No physical sim in the iPhone and working perfectly

I went to a corporate store today and they confirmed they have esim, but said he couldn't set it up yet because they didn't have processes in place yet. I called another store and they said they have them available. Hopefully I can get over there tomorrow.

I too was able to get the eSim activated today. I was the first in this AT&T store, but they knew they had them.

After straightening out what I wanted (not to add a new line, but to replace the existing physical SIM with the eSIM), it was straightforward from their end.

I recommend anyone note these items when activating:

- Ensure you're on Wifi, or on a physical SIM w/ data plan that's not being replaced (I saw this earlier in the thread). You'll get an unhelpful error message "Can not activate cellular plan at this time" if your phone does not have a data connection.

- Remove the SIM being replaced before activating the eSIM. I didn't, and it caused confusion over "primary" and "secondary" lines, both containing the same phone #. I got it straightened out after removing the old SIM, but better to just start with an empty phone (or with the SIM slot filled with an active line you plan to keep)

T mobile US site has been down all day for account access. When I called T Mobile Customer Service, he said they were upgrading the server. Probably for the e-sim... :)

Hopefully it'll be a lot less painful than having to get a card from a store like AT&T folks. We should be able to do it online, which is kind of the whole point of eSIMs.

Also, waiting to see which US providers will allow this for pre-paid. TMO is really the only tourist friendly carrier. So if that continues to stand, this would be great for them.

TMO’s prepaid refill website has been down all day. The CSR said they were upgrading the server and had no ETA when it’ll be back up. So maybe just maybe eSim will be at TMO. :)

Requiring an internet connection to activate the eSIM seems like it will cause a significant learning curve for retail employees / customer confusion (similar to the earlier post that mentioned this internet requirement and went through several cards not understanding why).

It really points to this process being designed for customer self serve vs. retail store plastic cards.

You only need the card because it’s not officially available. They aren’t even supposed to be activating them. Once it’s official, carriers who support it will have it available to do online

That happened to me today, either way, just waiting now until 12.1 is official, and hopefully available online via At&t.

Awesome advice yes I got mine up and running with a secondary number in less that 10 seconds

Because nobody knows how it works...ATT is not ready and apple is not ready neither. ATT agents haven't been trained for this esim yet. It is great that agent could listen to a customer (me) and tried something she hasn't known before. The agent who helped me is not a store manager. At this point my esim worked, and I don't ask for more.

I will say it is just my bad luck, and our experience will help others.

Does it cost anything to change from physical SIM to eSIM at AT&T?

I don't plan on having 2 lines, but I travel internationally quite often and it would be much more convenient to just keep my eSim as my original AT&T plan, and when I get to my destination just to insert a pre-paid physical sim. Or do you guys think getting an eSim would only benefit those who actually want 2 lines?

$5 at reseller att store. Maybe free at company store.

Same as me. ATT for esim, intl sim for physical sim.

Have you heard project fi? If you travel a lot, you can put project fi data card for physical sim. $10 per GB, no international roaming fee.

an hour with my manager at the AT&T store and it works flawless

That’s fantastic! Is this using a Verizon SIM that’s attached to a postpaid plan or a prepaid plan? My ultimate setup would be to use AT&T via the eSIM and then have a Verizon SIM inserted that’s linked to a prepaid, data-only plan. Does anyone know if this setup is doable?

Nope I haven't. What is that and how do I obtain one? Also if you have an eSim as your main AT&T line in America. What happens when you travel internationally and land in Asia. Would you still be able to receive/make calls on your AT&T eSim and use it's LTE for internet data without being charged international roaming fees? I'm curious as to what happens with the eSim part when you're outside of the country. In that situation, would you deactivate the eSim somehow in the menu to avoid roaming charges and just rely on your prepaid sim while you're abroad?

Project fi is MNVO from Google. It is not related to your att line.

So when you travel internationally, you switch to Fi's data, instead of att's roaming data. Because Fi's data is much cheaper than att data. Att will still be in service, but no internet connection. No roaming fee for receiving international messages from att. But you will pay as before for phone calls. If att wifi calling is available, it will be a different story.

So in a word, in US, you use att data. When travel aboard, you use a Fi's (or other sim's) data.
