Just back from our dining room where - rather than pouring a coffee from the already (freshly) prepared coffee in the cafetières - one of the lovely gentlemen who sometimes prepares my cappuccino on the wonderful gleaming Italian chrome and steel machine materialised (usually, they only prepare these coffees during the set meal times) and whispered "I will make you a cappuccino, if you like".

Ah, bliss.

Waffles, honey (Italian and mine) and a superb cappuccino; I think that I am half way to humanity now....

I was awoken at 7 AM by a little hand tapping the top of my head. I've been having coffee since then, but I did have a nice nap after lunch following some vodka. Double espresso at the moment made with a blend of yirgacheffe and Kenyan AA.

Personally, I expend the energy to banish the pesky disembodied hands that occasionally manifest at home. The extra minutes of sleep add up and are totally worth the small animal sacrifices.

Reminds me of some of the children's books - hysterically funny and quite wonderfully horrible - that my mother bought us as children (which we thought were hilarious) - including stuff by Hilaire Belloc, and Harry Graham, among countless others.

One such rhyme (of which we totally approved) read as follows:

'"Father Heard His Children Scream,
So He Threw Them In The Stream,
Saying, as He Drowned The Third,
"Children Should Be Seen And Not Heard".'

Just enjoyed a wonderful espresso with Italian colleagues, made on the electric (portable) Bialetti that accompanies one of them anywhere she goes in the world.

And, I have also taken delivery of hand-fired espresso cups, (and matching saucers) and two small mugs, perfectly made and beautifully balanced with a serious glaze - made in an antique manner - cast by a ceramic artist/potter who is the English husband of an Italian colleague. The espresso is seriously delicious when drunk from such a beautiful piece or work.

In regard to being woken up out of nowhere, I like to think that we'll pay back the kids when they're a bit older and I drum on a quart pot early weekend mornings. Perhaps I should take up the bugle in a few years. And learn to play the call to post anthem...

Bagpipes. Take up the bagpipes. Nothing says, “I love you kids” as well as the skirl of bagpipes at 4:30am.

I have fresh Kenyan beans, yum! Time for a cup with warm milk.
Warm milk on a cold winter day, with top notch coffee to boot.

Getting sick of buying expensive coffee outside for work, and I am not a fan of the stove to heat a Bialetti so I think I will start bringing my French press to work.

I just set up a new Mac Mini for my boss as well as he has been using Mac much longer than Windows and felt he would be more productive. Was fun to set up and they are nice, albeit a bit old, machines.
