I can but recommend McVitie's Dark Chocolate Digestives with coffee

Alas, today, my local shop only stocked the McVitie's Milk Chocolate Digestives, (personally, I far prefer dark chocolate) - for I asked, (in fact, the proprietor informed me that they are difficult enough to source), and I also asked the proprietor to keep an eye out for them and stock them if possible.

That's because they are all over here in Aus.

It seems they (MvVitie's) have been on a marketing spree. I bought some from London to give to a friend here in Switzerland.

Then I saw them just over the border in France for not much more than I paid in London. Then they appeared in the Swiss supermarkets. Then, two weeks ago, I was in Asia (Taipei) and in a supermarket -- the plain, milk and dark chocolate ones. No wonder some places are out of stock.

Unbelievable.

Switzerland, France, Asia, Aus......

but, but, but, not to be had for love or money in my local store today (and - worse - difficult to obtain, the proprietor explained apologetically to me today when I enquired of her)....

I have asked her to try to remedy this deficiency (not, needless to say, that I phrased it thus).

This week, with snow, and sleet, and ice, and blizzards, and, and, and......chocolate biscuits and coffee in the afternoon seemed an excellent idea, to soothe the soul, warm the body and comfort the mind.

They are available on ebay.co.uk, but at about twice the price they are here...

Don't mention Brexit, don't mention Brexit, don't mention Brexit.
Ah, buggrit, I just did...

Huh, I'll have to keep a lookout for them. Just got back from my almost bi-annual trip to Athens with the study abroad group. I had a lot of Greek coffee which I always take without sugar and in fact most cafés over there offer complimentary biscuits of good quality with them.

When I first came across this (unutterably civilised) concept in Brussels, (as a student, some decades ago, on an EU funded trip visiting - and touring - and being briefed on - the respective EU European Institutions), where the norm was to see a good quality biscuit offered alongside the exceptionally good coffees available in the Belgian capital, I was floored with impressed and awed delight.

It is a curious matter that one of my more popular posts has been about biccies.
I'm not sure what it says about this community, but I think it's good...

It tells you that this community (in the northern hemisphere, at least) feels the need of the comfort offered by a (familiar) chocolate biscuit (served with coffee) at the tail end of a long, cold, hard, winter.

I would wager that had you posted a similar post, with similar sentiments and similar recommendations in summer, that reaction might have been a little more muted.

Now, shortbread (that is, proper Scottish shortbread) also goes rather well with coffee, in my experience.

The problem with shortbread is, that by they put it on a slow ship to Aus. it has lost a lot of what makes a good shortbread, good.
That's why, in WWI, Aussie mothers and wives invented the Anzac buiscuit to send to their men at Gallipoli, which, like the Dwarf bread in Discworld, never goes off.

You are not now attempting to tell me that all of the good Scottish shortbread has also inexplicably disappeared, or vanished, en route to the Antipodes......or worse, has been consumed in its entirety somewhere in the Antipodes..

Quelle horreur.

Coffee (from El Salvador with organic hot milk and a dash of organic double cream) and chocolate biscuits (from McVitie's, milk chocolate, alas, for we cannot have everything we want in this life) are keeping me company this Sunday afternoon.

I've been using my new Nespresso machine for the past couple of weeks. Today I re-created one of Starbucks' popular seasonal drinks: the Iced Brown Sugar Shaken Oatmilk Espresso.

Success!

The recipe came directly from Starbucks' own website, it goes something like this:

- Brew 2 shots of Blonde Espresso (they recommend their own blonde espresso)

- Mix in the brown sugar into the hot drink (add sugar to taste) -- I use Turbinado Pure Cane Sugar

- In a cocktail shaker, pour the hot espresso including crema, then add 5-6 oz of Oatmilk. Shake

- Add 1.5 cup of ice into a tall drink glass, then pour the shaken Espresso/Oatmilk over the ice

- Top with a pinch of cinnamon powder, enjoy

This drink is fantastic, and even better for those that prefer dairy-free, lactose-free, vegan

And yes, I did use Starbucks' own recommended Blonde Espresso for the Nespresso Machine. Although I'm sure any blonde espresso (aka blonde roast) from other brands will work fine. Oatly is my oatmilk of choice.

If this is your first Espresso machine, welcome to the espresso club. You will have plenty of fun and it’s 1000% better than any washy coffee you can find. Don’t you think?

From what I heard from people /companies with pod-machine’s is that it’s really good stuff.
I also heard that it tends to be a pricey way to get espresso after a while.
The machine’s are affordable but the pods isn’t comparing to beans. But there’s also tons of variations of those pods, and hey you gotta make a choice where to put the money when you want the good stuff, enjoy 😋

it was cold and rainy here, and so somehow the cookies I bought are all gone!

I'm having coffee from Yemen this morning.........fortunately it's very very nice........even without cookies

The Mystery of the Disappearing Biscuits/Cookies.

Glad you enjoyed your coffee from Yemen; sounds fascinating, it is several years since I have been able to sip and savour and enjoy a coffee from there.

Well, while I prefer McVitie's Dark Chocolate Digestives, I must say that the two Milk Chocolate Digestives that accompanied coffee (from El Salvador) this afternoon, went down rather well.

Do you have a teenager in your house?
In my experience, when a teenager walks past a fridge, milk and choccy biccies teleport from inside the fridge to inside the teenager without the door being opened.

I'd invited a friend who is much into coffee to come try my newly acquired Yemen coffee and she brought along one of her children, and yes he's a teenager......but generally civilized......and yes the cookies vanished quickly
