First, it's important to know what gets tracked and what doesn't. Up until just recently, none of the collection data has been recorded. With Bandbreite's newest update, very little of it is tracked, and it's not very easy to just tell who added what bands and when. On top of this, not everyone's data is opted in.
Can you elaborate? What do you mean by „very little is tracked“? The band collections
are tracked and that would suffice, wouldn‘t it? And sure, I guess some folks opted out, but I‘m willing to bet that the number of Bandbreite users not participating in the BOTY vote is (way) higher than those opt-out numbers.
Second, you have to remember that not everyone has disposable income. There are many of us collectors who resort to eBay hunting for bands, and as such, don't always get the bands they think are the 'best.'
Easy fix: count items on the wish lists as well.
Just as you could have instead decided not to leave this comment,
Why? It‘s a reasonable question.
it's true that Bandbeite can decide not to do this event which helps to promote the app and its user-base. However, skipping out on the event does us no good, as it leaves out the fun
Bandbreite certainly will do this regardless, so you really don‘t have to get so agitated. It‘s just Watch bands, dude.
and doesn't give us the correct answer we're asking for.
I don‘t think so, actually, which is why I wrote that post. I think
both answers are „correct“, depending on how you define „band of the year“. Both methods have their pros and cons. The best point to be made for the Vote is that it gives users the chance to discriminate between their 2023 bands, i.e. rank them, as they certainly don‘t love all of their acquired (or wished for) bands in the same way. OTOH, the Vote inherently favors more unique/polarizing bands as opposed to more essential/regular bands that may have landed in more collections because of their versatility. And the statistical base would also be broader, I believe.
So which is the true „boty“, the crazy new design or snazzy new colour or the best-seller that lands on most wrists IRL? My answer is „both“, so I will of course vote, but I would also like to know which band actually sold best according to Bandbreite stats (as we will sadly never get the real numbers from Apple).
