Very nice. How is the overall speed of the machine? My girlfriend's Macbook has a paltry 512mb of ram in it, and I'm trying to decide on 2 gigs or 4 gigs.

I've only see the rainbow once or twice so for everything I do (email, Wordprocessing, internet, iTunes, iPhoto, Aperture), the 4GB is usually more than fast enough. It was not very expensive so I figured that I might as well get it :)

4GiB is overkill for all of those tasks, with the exception (possibly) of Aperture if you do some seriously heavy work. I have 2GiBs in mine because it was slowing down with only 1GiB when I tried to run Photoshop/Bridge/Lightroom/Eclipse/etc. all at the same time. Unless the girlfriend in question here is into seriously heavy image editting (we're talking many huge RAW files at once) or HD resolution video editing, 4GiB will just be a complete waste.

If it only came with 512MB in it, it will only support 2GB. Only the newer models support up to 4GB of RAM.

You can never have too much ram.

No, but you can never have too much money left over either. There's absolutely no point wasting money on more RAM id you're never going to use it, or even worse if the machine won't even recognise it.

Here's my current setup:

The keyboard, mouse and speakers on top of the desk are all for the Mac Pro.

Slide 'em out, and I have a full setup for my PC laptop.
