But surely "geeks" still have friends, no?

OF COURSE WE DO!

Let's not start a popularity thing here. I consider myself a geek, and so do all my friends, and pretty much all of them are the complete opposite, none of them that I know of out of about... 15 CLOSE mates that I have been over their house have a computer in their room (unlike me) But besides computers and macs me and my friends have HEAPS in common. We ALL play a hefty amount of sport, all do weights, keep fit, kill out livers at party's ;) and most have girlfriends (not me). What I am trying to say is, to be a geek you don't need to be an outcast/different/fat... that's nerds :p kidding. But anyway you can be the most popular kid at your school and have an obsession with technology. Technology shouldn't stop you from having friends and living a teenage life.

Anyway back on topic....

s1k0, reckon you could post a pic of your macbook and iMac when it is all set up?

No, but then that gets back to my original question: how can kids lead a normal teenage life, and afford so many computers?

Anyway, it's probably offtopic, so I'll leave it at that.

Wellllll, I've worked 2 job since I was 18, then got a full time job as soon as I turned 18. Most of my friends were friends I worked with before this new job, so that's where a lot of socializing was done

BTW, I'm thinking of taking the 22" Vizio back to Costco in exchange for the 32" version

I will leave it at this....

ALL teenagers have a hobby and something to spend their part time job money on. Whether it would be a new pair of sneakers each week or a new guitar each month, kids find something to spend their money on, heck my mate just paid half for a subaru imprezza! We just chose to spend our earnings on macs and technology. Think about it, I earn 120 dollars a week. I would find it hard to spend 120 dollars a MONTH on food, movies, drinks. It's not like I get a new mac each month, I only have one mac computer then like a bunch of products to go with it (see my post in this thread) See what I spent on that, my close mate would spend on a brand spanking new guitar! Anyway enough of this. That's just my two cents, I live a normal teenage life (school, mates, part time job, parties all that) and still LOVE being a geek! :D

I'm amazed by how many 14/15 year old kids have got multiple mac computers: where does the money for all those come from? I remember when I was a lad, and my dad brought home our first 133 MHz PC running windows '95 :p

Good Question Cristo... I've wondered that, too. But i'm 14 and i get my stuff off of discount websites. I ride my bike to albertsons, get a prepaid debit card, and order what i want. Of course i clear this with my parents in advance. They just say don't waist your money, and lots of other junk. I have to tell them a bunch of reasons to let me get something.

what websites do you go to get the discounted stuff? I am trying desperately to upgrade all of my stuff. I have a mac mini with a gigantic 19" monitor. A pair of somewhat old but messed up Labtec Speakers with a subwoofer. I also have a rather old iMac. But I cant seem to figure out what I should do. Plus my parents just gave me a Toshiba Satellite laptop, but it needs a new HD which i am currently searching various places for the cheapest. Any suggestions?

I guess the best part is that I asked my parents for all new stuff for my 18th birthday which is this SATURDAY!!!! YESSSS!!!! Hopefully they get me at least some stuff

My set up

Im 14 (15 on the 25th of this month) I currently own this latest gen iMac, a HP Pavillion Laptop, I also plan on buying either Mac Book Pro or iPhone 16GB

I noticed other people wondering how younger people can afford stuff like this. I afford it through working in my parents company, by working every day I can save up carefully and plan what I want to buy. I also limit myself to spending as little as possible on the unnecessary things such as going to the cinema or buying expensive designer clothes, I am strict with my budgeting and I use a full Excel Spreadsheet (in line with online baking) to work out all of my finances carefully to make sure that I can afford what I want. I also have a small side business selling items such as iPhone & iPod accessories, memory cards etc to friends in school to try and support my spending.

It was more of a joke, that I did not mean it sound hostile. All though around my area, allot of what I said does go on. I believe allot of people our age get a part/full time job and put all there money into one hobby/interest.
