I'm 15 (16 in December) and I have a 12" PowerBook G4, and I run my own site (http://amacgenius.com/) and I literally (had a day off from school yesterday) spent 3 hours cleaning my room with my desk being the worst part of my room, anyways here are some shots, and before you jump on me for the stuffed animals, they were given to me by my grandmother (who passed last valentine's day).

Full Desk

PowerBook + PS2

PowerBook

Enjoy, and comments welcome.

That desk design has seen many lives from the manufacturer. Over the past 10 years I have had at least three different "looks" from that basic design.

Great shots. Now you just have to try and keep it that way.

No slams on the stuffed animals from this corner. I still have lots of Pooh and Piglet stuff around from my 13+ years with my ex. For me they are a reminder of better times.

Very nice, my first Mac was a 15" PB (January 2004) and I sold it about a month ago to get my 12". Congrats, and nice clean desk there ;).

I also hate Intel. :p

Only one pic, but it'll have to suffice:

I'm nineteen, so I'm over the mark of being able to post my setup here (which incidentally is not all that impressive), but why is it that everyone gets to universally despise kids who have rich parents and can afford G5s? The parents are working to make the money, and it's their business what they want to do with it. They work hard for the benefit of themselves and their family. Should they work hard and then withold these benefits from their children? It's generally well-recognized now that being a stay at home parent is in and of itself a full time job, and therefore what the other spouse makes monetarily goes to benefit their child-raising partner. Have you ever stopped to consider that, in the same respect, things like being a good kid, working hard in school, and making good grades could be seen as jobs, too? I mean, obviously, sometimes kids don't understand the value of a dollar if everything is hand-fed to them, but not all kids are like that; some are capable of thinking for themselves. While it's certainly admirable and very mature when minors are resourceful and smart enough to make their own money, but that doesn't mean having rich parents automatically makes you a spoiled brat.

agreed, but there is a certain feeling you get when you purchase your own stuff, say i buy myself an ibook, sure i would love a powerbook, but the ibook is great because i payed for it, if my parents bought me a powerbook, (which they won't) i wouldn't appreciate it nearly as much, i would not take as good care of it either, for example a friend of mine's parents are getting her a VW Passat this summer, she doesn't seem to really care, she's like ow my parents will buy me this and this and this, and i really don't have too work etc.

that being said i'd like to post pictures of my ibook set-up, its not amazing, but im am very happy with it.

Thanks for a great post. I think you hit it on the head. With rising incomes and guilt by parents; many youth don't understand the meaning of the dollar in some cases.

Much like during the dot com boom, you had grads pulling down six figure incomes. Their first place was not some cheap apartment shared by two or more others. It was a $300K condo. Their first new car was not an Escort. It was a BMW or a big SUV.

I have worked for a couple of wealthy family owned businesses over my many years. The ones in which the kids were of the owners were most successful in their own lives was when they had to work their way up.

For sometimes you have to walk a mile in another mans shoes to understand where they have come from.

Sorry, but this comes from living and working in Fairfax County, Virginia (one of the wealthiest counties in the US). Where I have seen seniors in HS throw tantrums over what their parents wanted to buy them at the stores I have worked at. Where parents have taught their children, by the parents actions, that anyone that is in the service industry is "below" them on all levels and should be reminded of that fact.

To be fair, these types are not the norm. But they happen enough to make each day a challenge. I have worked in stores with a more "working class" client; and there is a big difference IMO.

IMO we need more people in this world like yourself.....

BTW, a story from the trenches.

A customer had made a remark about his new car purchase. I congratulated him on his new car, an H2 (IIRC). He was so proud. I mentioned that I just bought a Subaru Baja, so I understood his pride. His comment was , that was nice, but the Baja did not compare to his new ride. Thankfully another customer in a similar situation a little while later complimented me on a great purchase. <smile>

Agreed. I worked my butt off this summer to get my PM and it feels good, real good.

Very nice setup by the way. Nice mouse :p

I agreee on that one! I also saved up to buy my setup. I think that you really get a sense of accomplishment when you save up and buy your own equipment - a sense you certainly don't get when it's just handed to you!

Since my past post I've added an apple keyboard and JBL creature speakers.

Im 14 got my set-up in my signature, but currently thinking about buying a new computer either the mac mini or the imac, (going to wait until they come out with the new intels)

Love my new ipod though, no usb 2.0 on my comp though. my computer has been pretty kickass. It just fell and not so sure what is happening to it the screen is kind of messed up. The apple store opens tomorrow though so its kind of nice.

You hit that dead on. I am now 22 and about to graduate college. I could not be happier with my parents for the way they raised me. While my family did have a decent income, I have always financed my own big purchases. My first car was a 1999 Ford Escort and I paid for it myself. I went to high school in a more upscale area so many of the people at my school were like "man! why didn't you get a mustang?" haha. When I told them I paid for it myself they just looked at me like what... you did what... I have held a job since I was 16 and I feel it has really made me appreciate what I have. I know I am well off for my age and I am incredibly thankful for that :) I am now about to graduate college (during which at one point I had 3 jobs) and I just got a great job offer at the company I have worked for duing the summers and on breaks. While I hated my parents at the time for making me be responsible for my own purchases, I really appreciate it now.

Really, I think it is ok for parents to buy their kids some things.. and a computer every once in a while really isn't that big of a deal as long as the young adult understands the value of that item. I think teens should pay for their own cars (or at least part of them) as it makes you appreciate it more. When I bought my car I really wanted a Honda Civic but I could not afford it at the time. This last summer when I got a raise, I traded in my Escort for a 2005 Civic Value Package. I love the car becuase I know how hard I worked to get it. Everything should be taken in moderation and parents buying stuff for their children is no exeption to the rule. If you pay for something yourself then you appreciate it more. Period.

Oh and I just wanted to say way to go for the "under agers" in this thread who already have their own means of income with their own small businesses. You will go a long way with that kind of attitude!

I'm 16 and have put off posting here cause something new always seems to round the corner.

Now I have my new iMac though i thought I would take the plunge.

By the way, this is all fully financed by my working in a local shop, designing websites and doing tech support for family friends!

Hope you like it.

Posted the same thing in the other forum, but didn't see this one. It isn't much, but it is what I currently have. Have been building this set-up for the past 3 and half years. Hoping to add a 12inch Powerbook G4 to this set up in the near future (or when money permits.. if that isn't the near future.. before june I hope.. we will see)

99 pages of awesome mac set-ups. I love it! I am still going through all the pages but thought I would post the pictures of my living quarters/amateur radio shack/computer room/office :)

Picture 1- Most of the room showing My IBM 390X, Homebrew Linux Box, Ipod, and one Macintosh 5500.
Picture 2- You can see the Macintosh 5500 better
Picture 3- Better view of the ipod.. sadly that is a Thinkpad and not a Powerbook on that corner of the desk..
Picture 4- Bedside Macintosh 5500 for that latenight computing (Mostly IRC/Web surfing)

Try to count how much Apple Paraphernalia you can see in the pictures.

I wish I could work and pay for my own things but my parents are aganist me working, saying that the only thing I should worry about is getting my education and nothing else. So with grades comes the car, powerbooks (yes I do mean powerbooks with an S) and iPods. I belive it is important for teens to work to appreciate things they get. The way my parents make me appreciate my things is to work in the farm to remind me where the powerbook came from.
