where does everyone get these lovely lamps? i want a nice solid one, preferably made out of metal...and i cant find one anywhere! the ones from argos are cheap imitation metal. grrr.

I got my lamp at staples but now the bulb is dead so I need to get a new one.

I envy your MBP setup. I wanna get an iCurve too and a wireless keyboard, but it's double the price of the wired one...

The PC is moving out of my room soon into a dedicated studio, so the MacBook Pro will have the entire desk to itself. I might then get the new eMac when it comes out.


Not sure what speakers I would use then though...

I am almost 21 now, and this is my setup from when I was about 17-18. Anyways, No Apple equip. in that picture. I ran two cat-5 cables to every room in the house (including the kitchen) and ran them to a central closet where I had a 3com Switch. In my bedroom I had that rackmount box (running headless) with FreeBSD 4.1 at the time doing all of the following:

Apache (50 websites)
BIND (55 primary 30 secondary) (dns for thoes who don't know what bind is)
Mail (all of the primary www domains, 50, and a few backups)
Shoutcast (for my friends)
Firewall/Router for my internal network
FileServer for internal Network
MySQL/PHP
I had two video capture cards running two x-10 cameras that were in my front and back yard (hard wired to my closet then ran across the room to the server where it connected via video in). It was not a bad deal, Color/Video x-10 camera with 60 foot extend cable for like 50 bucks each?
I also messed around with alot of custom MRTG graphs that I wrote bash scripts for.

Anyways, I also had a Linux workstation running slackware, a Windows XP box, and 3 system bsd-cluster on the other side of the room doing misc tasks It was nice having a little 3 system powerhorse to crunch data.

All that on a 1500/1500 SDSL with a full Class C. Yes, I got delegated a full class C.

Now I have since moved that box to a colo facility, and have another network here at my apartment in Monterey. This picture I have is back in my hometown before I went to college.

Here in Monterey, I have the following.

My Week 20 2.0ghz 2gig Ram 100gig 7200RPM MacBook Pro (matte screen) Loving it.
Dell Inspiron 9100 w/two 300 gig hard drives (raid 0 setup). 2 gigs of ram, dual 2.8 intel, ATI x600 256 video card. Runs linux and Mac OS dual-boot only! No windows.
Then I have a FreeBSD 6.1 AMD 750 box with 1 gig of ram running as a firewall/router/fileserver. I have a 150 gig hard drive in it. It handles most of the storage needs for the users here (my girlfriend and myself).

That's about it. I am waiting for an intel powermac to come out

That is one cool setup, both the before and the now, I about to post my first setup, just waiting for my powerbook to come back from Apple, (they damaged my case, when it was in for repairs).

I don't have all my computers, seeing I moving back from Germany, but I will have 4 here. I just built a Mac OS X server machine for less than $500, it is a PowerMac G4 400Mhz, 704 MB RAM, and 80HD, a 300 HD(but can only use 137MB due to the powermac no supporting large drives). An External 200MB (going to put the 300 in here and put the 200 in the computer). It has a 17inch LCD, keyboard and mouse. I got mac OS X 10.4 server of ebay at a great price for the unlimited server. I use this server as a Directory for all the computers I have plus special data storage for some of my projects. Just add a webserver on the internet, using Dynamic DNS and a free domain name. Have my own domain sitting on my .mac. This one will be use to log in remote data.

and an HP laptop (well, mobile desktop really) with 3.2ghz P4/1gb RAM.

I expect shortly after I turn 18 (i may wait a tiny bit for better processors, I keep a close eye on intel's roadmap) I will be getting a mac pro- by that point probably an Octo (dual Xeon-Tigertons baby...), with 23" or 30" ACD, about 8gb of ram to start with, at least 500GB of HD space internal (preferably 2x500gb or larger drives RAIDed for mirroring) an eSATA PCI-X card, ridiculously good video card....goodies like that.

I would recommend the JBL Creatures (£55) but if you want something cheaper I would recommend the JBL Duets. (£28)

I finally don't need that ugly CRT anymore. With my last computer I had to dual screen with a 19" LCD (like in the pictures and a ugly white 17" CRT. Now that I have my MacBook there is only good use for one of them.
