why the hell does it matter?!
Subwoofers are *designed* to be placed on the floor (often in a corner) to maximize their efficiency.

Putting it on your desk is a waste of space and money, IMO. If you're not going to let the sub do its job, don't bother with getting a sub at all.

I'm not sure corners are the right place for subs. I have mine (for my AV setup) in a corner and it's great with movies, but for music it sounds pretty dang crap...

My point is ... it's not on your bookshelf. Or on the shelf behind your TV.

My subwoofer is actually suspended by some unknown force in the middle of my room. Not a single priest can get it down...

My iCurve just came 5 minuets ago and i got pictures:

I recently just blew my CA speakers. I have big JVC ones that push out around 500 watts of pure bass. I think that I'll hook them up for my next setup picture with my iCurve.

I bet I can blow your 500 watt speakers with a 5 watt amplifier...

What the hell is up with people putting subwoofers on their desks?

Do these things not come with drawings which indicate that a subwoofer belongs on the floor?!

The reason I didnt put the subwoofer on the floor is my desk. It is chained to the wall and floor, so I cannot move it to get subwoofer under it. As you probably know you cannot unplug wires from Sound Sticks II's subwoofer, so its sitting on my desk behind iMac and sounds great.

No need to get mad :p

In my living room I have my huge subwoofer on the floor ;). 5.1 rocks BTW :D

As for the ton of wires on my desk, it is inevitable. I tried to sort them, remove unnecessary ones etc, but it didnt help much. Sound Sticks have A LOT OF wires, I also have:

Scanner, Printer, card reader, iPod dock (FW), iPod cable (USB), Radio Shark, Ethernet hub, 4 Ethernet cables, USB hub, USB ISDN modem, phone, PC laptop, 2 mice, keyboad - all that has to be connected to my iMac at the same time. Plus, almost everything I mentioned above needs power, so that explains the "net" on my desk :D

chained to the wall? what do you live in a prison or something? lol

No, I just dont know how to say it in english :p

It is nailed, if this makes things clear ;)

uhmmmmmm......i don't think a subwoofer is gonna kill your harddrive unless you put the subwoofer IN your computer or something. i don't think putting it ON your desk will kill your harddrive.

Don't you people understand that SUBWOOFERS are MAGNETS?

Read the online manual for the speakers: It is says this and I quote:

"The speakers are magnetically shielded..." Theres more to it but thats all i want to post. lol I keep mine on the floor anyway so its all good.

This is the stupidest argument I have ever heard.

Yes, speakers have magnets, but the magnet has to be strong enough to pull on the little stylus thinngy inside of the Hard Drive. If your subwoofer makes every pen, paperclip, and metal object fly to it, then I would be concerned. However, the magnet is not that strong so its not strong enough to wreck the hard drive.

I put a paperclip up to my JBL creature's subwoofer and it didn't pull at all. The satellite speakers attracted the paperclip when it was 1cm away.

Experiment:
1. take a paperclip and put it up to the speaker of your laptop
2. take a paperclip and put it near the latch of your apple laptop

Both the speakers and latch IN the computer have magnets. The latch magnet is quite strong.

Unless you are an idiot, you will realize that the speakers that go on your desk also have magnets in them too. They don't attract every pen and paperclip in a 10ft radius and I can say quite confidently that they do not kill your HD.

Calm down, its not going to wreck your computer.

Not saying you're wrong, but you cant easily destroy a HDD without pulling the read/write head inside it, since the data are stored on magnetic surfaces, which will be erased/destroyed/demagnetized or something making the HDD unreadable.

ZOMG.

a few people wear polos, or put subwoofers on their desk, or a 15 year old has a nice setup & you ALL flip the f*ck out. if the friggin subwoofer will DESTROY anyones harddrive, WHO's problem is it? if it sounds worse sitting on the desk, who's problem is it? who paid for it? don't you think they have the right to put the subwoofer wear you want? don't you people understand this? NONE of you are changing anyones life if you are telling them to stop wearing polos, put their subwoofers on the floor ('cause you thinkk its gonna friggin explode the harddrive), or telling a 15 year old to get a job (when MOST 15 year olds here do). stop talking about the friggin subwoofers, and get on with the setups
