What are your thoughts about newly released AI from Apple?

I'm intrigued, from what they showed, there's a lot of good stuff. It looks like they're doing most of it themselves, but then can offer the option to tap into ChatGPT from what I saw? Interesting.

Wonder if the clean up is only removing people/objects, as I do like the photo features that Android brought in that expanded on that.

Really confused about whether iPhones before 15 Pro can even use the cloud capability (on-device is not supported) and also wondering if HomePod and tvOS will get the same capabilities. Siri on the HomePod is horrendous right now
There's a lot that's unclear about what devices can use it and when it becomes available. Hopefully will be more clear as MR reporters and others talk to Apple personnel

Good to see you! Thought you may have moved on. Of course, the latter several months of any iOS version is just painful on here. But now its like Christmas Eve and comparing all the presents!

I'm wondering which GPT model (3.5, 4-turbo, 4o) we'll be gettin' for free in iOS18.

Life keeps me busy last couple years, so only really around for the big releases! :)

Plain disappointing. The headliner feature not even available on their most recent phone, and the whole time it was stuff we've already seen or aren't that hard to imagine. Apple has become a follower, not a leader, and honestly it's sad to see... And you can't convince me this isn't planned obsolescence if they aren't bringing the cloud features on the previous iPhones and Macs.

They can not. Apple Intelligence is only available on A17 Pro and up so we're not even getting the new Siri experience and ChatGPT integration.

Even Samsung brought their cloud AI to older devices, even the cheaper ones. I don't care about privacy since I'm not sharing my darkest thoughts with AI, I'm just doing a presentation. The attitude around this is seriously making me reconsider staying in the ecosystem at least with the phone.

I also wonder who asked for the AI cartoons. I'm not going to defend artists as I am one and I get what's happening and understand that we're forced to adapt with technology as humans have done for ages. But they just look ugly lol.

Staying in the ecosystem? Leaving?

I am an older iOS user but was a tech support person for some ten years. I am now retired.
I watched the entire presentation and was totally gobsmacked at all the changes and then on top of that all of the new " stuff".
I kept on seeing things that I thought we just terrific and seconds later those thoughts were lost as more stuff was presented.
I have an iPhone 14 MP and a 4th generation ipad.
So to get the benefit of these things will have to upgrade at some stage.
So will wait until everything is in place and been working for a while before I do anything.
I understand the fast advancement of technology😄

Meant reconsider**, sorry.
Not necessarily leaving the whole ecosystem, I love the Mac. But I really dislike the way they stopped giving the iPhone they release that year the latest chip, then made the 15 obsolete at the first software update. It just doesn't sit well with me when Google and Samsung are bringing those features to their older devices and have committed to 7 years of support just like Apple does. I get that Samsung and Google are subsidising that by mining the hell out of our data but the reality is that I don't care, I want the AI assistance with the presentation/email. I hope that makes sense.

It truly flies in the face of 7 years of software updates for Apple devices, doesn’t it?

While rewriting/composing and the (sigh) stupid image generation doesn't feel fresh, the integration into the system and into 3rd party apps does. This is quite a playing field for ideas in the upcoming years and genmojis are just a hint of that. Some of it feels a bit shallow, but there are so many ways an OS can benefit from what Apple sketched out today. If they only really use it.

The Privacy thing, is a big thing to people, did you not see the whole Microsoft CoPilot recording and storing everything you do, in a folder that anyone using an admin account could access? They've since had to back track and make it Opt In, and state they're going to secure it better.

Luckily for everyone, it's privacy focused with Apple, rather than just suiting your opinion.

Also, the AI Cartoons thing, is probably one of the features most used by the bulk of non-techy people, especially teenagers to early 20s.

It looks amazing but I'm disappointed it only works on iPhone 15 Pro and newer or M1 or newer Macs and iPads (less so by the M1 requirement since that has been out sometime.) No big deal for my wife and I as we have 15 Pros, and I have a M4 iPad Pro (and likely will upgrade my wife's 2020 A14Z iPad Pro at some near point) but it kinda stinks my kids who have a iPhone 14 Pro and a brand new 2 month old iPhone 15 are locked out (and they won't upgrade for some time.) Their Macs and iPads are M2 devices so at least they will have it there but the experience won't be consistent. I know, I know, this is incredibly a 1st world problem but this is the first time I've ever seen Apple completely lock out a current device released in less than the last 12 months (iPhone 15) from a major showcase feature that permeates the very next iOS revision.

Knowing that most of Apple Intelligence will be made on device and that only a few devices will be able to support it (so, from the 15 Pro/Pro Max), and that ChatGPT would come later this year as an add-on, I wonder if the older iOS18 compatible devices would be able to just use ChatGPT, without the Apple AI... Could be a way for everyone to be able to use an AI service on their devices...

Clearly you did not watch the same keynote as most of the rest of us.

Getting 7 years of software updates, doesn't necessarily mean it gets every single feature, as it's not feasible or realistic for some features. Even Android doesn't bring every feature to the older devices, despite saying they will provide software updates.

The Cloud AI, I get the thinking behind 'why can't older devices have that', but I suspect it's to do with the way they were explaining how it works - it tries to do all on device, but the hardware knows when it needs to hand some stuff to the cloud - maybe they just cannot get older devices to do that, or do it reliably enough. Or maybe we will see that change and happen down the line - as they do say that when it launches in the fall with iOS 18, etc, it will be launched as a beta.

Also, think about how much data older devices have to send to the cloud, that the newer ones that can do more on device. You'd see people complaining about it taking longer (as on device will be faster) and how much data it uses when using mobile data, etc.

It does seem like a starting point and I can only imagine how deeply integrated it will be in everything within 2-3 years of now... Apple does seem to have the point though... AI must be INTEGRATED into the device and useable, until now most applications of AI are stand alone showcase features that while flashy often don't have a meaningful impact in day to day life, this will change that.

I'm confused. I'm on an IPhone 13 Mini. Will Siri remain as dumb as it is now on my phone or will the ChatGpt integration work? I'm not talking about the advanced stuff which is reserved for the Iphone 15 Pro, just want to know if I'll see any improvements to Siri. Thanks for the help!
