I'm confused. I'm on an IPhone 13 Mini. Will Siri remain as dumb as it is now on my phone or will the ChatGpt integration work? I'm not talking about the advanced stuff which is reserved for the Iphone 15 Pro, just want to know if I'll see any improvements to Siri. Thanks for the help!
Siri will remain as is, for devices that does not support Apple Intelligence (for now, at least, who knows if that will change down the line)

It does seem like a starting point and I can only imagine how deeply integrated it will be in everything within 2-3 years of now... Apple does seem to have the point though... AI must be INTEGRATED into the device and useable, until now most applications of AI are stand alone showcase features that while flashy often don't have a meaningful impact in day to day life, this will change that.
This is exactly right. It's great to be able to answer questions but for most people that's not a pressing need. It's fun to play with and then it goes back into a "drawer". This has the makings of what I've viewed as Apple's goal for a long time: an "app-less" device, meaning that the basic building blocks are app intents not the apps themselves. Shortcuts gave us the first taste of this, but it is apparent it was only the appetizer, not the main course.

all they said is "Apple Intelligence" requires iPhone 15 Pro or newer or Mac/iPads with M1 or newer. I'm hoping there is some staggered features for older models but what I fear is that in order to not "confuse" people about what their AI can do, they are making sure all devices that have it can do all of it, and that's why it is so limited to the newest models. I'm shocked it doesn't even work on the iPhone 15.

This is a good question. I wonder if they can improve Siri voice analysis and intelligence in the cloud by connecting to their own intelligence services without having to support the other AI features in the OS for older devices.

wow that sucks... hard... guess I will continue to just use the ChatGpt App with subscription then. Thanks for the reply!

I really think they will cut out all the older devices from having any of the AI features because they don't want to confuse users on a model by model basis of what the device is capable of. "AI" is so nebulous (because eventually it will be able to do anything and understand everything) that don't want people to be confused why Siri can do some tasks on their iPad that it can't on their older phone etc. so now we are stuck with either Super Siri on the newest devices (and even then the iPhone 15 is cut out) or Dumb Siri so its a clear distinction.

Makes sense, but it's so painful due to how bad Siri has been all these years. If they had made incremental improvements over time, it wouldn't feel so bad being stuck on the old architecture. But it feels like that haven't touched Siri since they purchased it. Of course, they could have been actually been working on it all this time, but it's definitely not obvious.

That's a good point. Can see a lot of people being confused if their phone can only do half the AI stuff, and then also kick off if it's not as good as the ones that can handle doing more on device.

HomePods are in desperate need of some of these features. I hope something happens for them later this year. So useless they can’t even read a top search result as an answer. Everything is “ask me again from your iPhone.”

They should have brought it to everything, even if it just uses the server. My MacBook will get the smarter Siri, but nothing else will. I regularly use Siri on my Apple Watch and HomePods. It's too bad they'll remain dumb.

Sometimes I wish English was my first language. Another feature that arrives later because of the language. At least one of my first languages are Spanish, it could be worse, it could be Norwegian or something.

Without a doubt. It will be a pain point because as an all Apple household it will add some confusion... My wife and I have iPhones that will have AI, my kids will not. My wife's iPad won't have AI but the kids and mine will. The Macs will all have AI. The HomePods and Apple Watches won't (unless that's a feature for the new Series 10 and Ultra 3 this fall?). Siri will be really smart some places, and dumb as a rock elsewhere. I know in a few years the AI will be much more capable still... and useable EVERYWHERE as we upgrade to newer Apple devices, but these first few years will be a bit all over the place.

maybe this fall's new Apple Watches (series 10 and ultra 3) will offer the smart Siri? I suspect both HomePods will need updates to support the new smarter Siri.

I can't stand AI and will see if I can disable it or I might delay updating my OS and IOS. It slows down my productivity and is just annoying. Unfortunately everyone is doing it. I had already written off getting a new Surface since they include AI but it seems like I will just have to figure out how to disable it in whatever I have.
