Being able to have a proper file system where we can utilize some of the memory for storage would be helpful to me. Apple has never allowed such a thing except for some work around. I use one of my 10.5 iPads out in the field and sometimes so far out in the boonies that my cellular will not work. I need access to my company's customer contracts, over 4500 with double that archived. Also need images taken with a file manager to keep them in order, sometimes hundreds of progress images a day. Moving these images around in Apple's way is a pain.

But you've always been able to store all that stuff. You could store PDF documents for your clients (assuming that's what they are) with iBooks for instance, and the photos in Photos.app or a huge variety of other apps.
And besides, the Files app is just another sandbox to put stuff into. Except that the app itself is only a file browser, it's storage mechanism doesn't work any differently to iBooks or Photos.

You do not find a real file system nice to have?

I think it's nice that it's there, but I don't really use it as of yet.

I think all this random eye fatigue has to do with the fact that some apps and websites are not completely optimized/resolution independent. Even the front page of macrumors has slightly blurred text on the new 10.5 iPad. Yet the forums is crystal clear.

So the randomness of sites/apps is probably throwing people's eyes off who are more sensitive to these things.

I don't think that's it. Remember, the refresh rate in the new 10.5 inch iPad is a variable refresh rate, ranging from 120 Hz to 60 Hz. The 120 Hz is used when something fast is being displayed, for example use of the Apple Pencil or a movie. To save battery, if those fast refreshes are not needed, the display throttles back to 60 or even something less. My guess is that the eye fatigue people are experiencing is when the refresh rate is at the lower end of the range, not the higher end.

A movie wouldn't bring the refresh rate to 120hz. Movies are traditionally shot at 23.976 frames per second, so regardless of the action, it wouldn't make sense increasing the refresh rate.

Something as simple as scrolling fast enough should activate the 120hz however.

I wound up returning my first IPP 10.5 after a few days due to eye fatigue and headaches. Read somewhere else on these forums of others having the same issue, blaming it on faulty screens on random devices. Picked up another IPP 10.5 a month later to test that theory and have enjoyed the newer one from day 1. Have had it for over 5 weeks now without any eye or headache problems. Perhaps yours has a bad screen and simply needs to be returned and replaced?

I was having the same exact issue... my eyes were feeling sore and I was seeing floaters, but I read that a user in this thread or another with the same issue swapped theirs out and the new iPad didn't have the problem... I was skeptical, but I swapped mine out as well and the issue isn't present on this new iPad that I got... so it might be a panel issue.

Another thing to consider is that if you are running the iOS 11 beta, auto brightness has been moved to accessibility instead of display...so check there to see if the screen is simply too bright all the time.

I lowered the brightness on mine..I just really have sensitive eyes..maybe there is nothing wrong and the screen is just so crystal clear my awful eyes are not used to it LOL. I have issues with brightness and eye strain..I even lower the brightness on my TV since it bothers my eyes..wish there was a way to know for sure if my iPad is OK..should I bring it to the store and have them look at it?

My guess is the folks at the store will tell you they see nothing wrong. You've got two of us right here suggesting the possibility that it may be otherwise. Why not try a return/replace if you are still within that time window?

No eye strain here. Went back to my old 9.7 pro which I just sold and the pro motion of the 10.5 is majorly noticeable.

Pro Motion..ya know I never thought of that..the 9.7 inch does not have that right? Perhaps that is the cause of my eye strain..I dont think what Im experiencing is eye strain, because the screen is crystal clear, I think my eyes have to get used to it..and now that you mentioned pro motion, could that be the cause and how can I test it?

Pro motion could be causing your eye strain. Everyone is different. Luckily it didn’t affect me. You can go into settings and set it to 60fps like the old models. See if that helps.

Had the same bad eye strain issue with my first iPad Pro 10.5 that I bought in June. Turned pro motion and true tone off but that didn't help. Also the screen just didn't look as crisp as my air 2. I returned that device. Bought another pro 10.5 at the end of last month and it's fantastic with no eye strain and it looks great with true tone and pro motion on! So if you have eye strain your device is defective.

I have an iPad Air from day one and I can use it for many hours every day without any problems to my eyes.
I had tried three IPad Pro 10.5 (one on day one, second on July and last on august) and two iPad Pro 9.7 and on all five device I had eyes strain.

Then I bought a iPad 2017 (at half price of ipp10.5) and no eyes strain, as good as iPad Air.
Now I'm fine and next iPad for me will be only on oled screen.

My eyes are not overly sensitive, but I do get headaches, after reading hours and hours at a time. It really helps to have the 10.5 with promotion for this. Headaches set in much later, if at all. (I wish I had good reason to update my 12.9 1st gen to 2nd gen, but even I can’t justify this.
I would suggest returning it if you are within the 14 days period and going to an Apple Store to find out if you have it with every iPad. If not try kindly convincing an apple store employee?!
Did you use iPads before without/less trouble?

Never ever store PDF documents in iBooks! You will never get it out from there. Ibooks is a piece of ****.

I would recommend Documents App from Readdle or the PDF Expert App from them.

So when I turned on the iPad I immediately had the eye strain, then I went into settings to see about getting rid of the pro motion..turns out it was already off so I turned it on and well, so far my eyes seem to be OK maybe that is all that needed to be done..to turn it ON..I guess its off by default perhaps that was the cause of this..my eyes are extremely sensitive to any kind of light but will keep on messing around with it and see if my eye issues are resolved with this

Really glad to see some of you guys were able to replace and receive a unit that didn't cause any eye strain.

It's an uncommon problem, but a HUGE bummer for the folks that deal with it. For me personally, it's gotten so bad that I cannot be under fluorescent lights for more than 15 minutes and that's with super dark shades on.

TV's have been a nightmare as well since most use a PWM backlight. I'm trying out a Sony 850E right now, but my only other option will be an LG C7.

Hope you guys have a great weekend!

Actually, if you sync iBooks to macOS, you can get to your files in a terminal window with this command:

open ~/Library/Mobile\ Documents/iCloud~com~apple~iBooks

I found this method here:

Did you ever replace the iPad?

Yeah I replaced the iPad Pro after going through a HUGE hassle with Target..and I ended up getting it for even less than I originally paid for it..couldnt do the exchange in store because I had used a registry college coupon and price match..had to take the ipad home, call target.com, order another ipad for in store pick up and get the price manually adjusted after I picked it up, then return the bad one, and take the new one home which I did, after all the hassle ended up paying 481 for a brand new iPad Pro 10.5 inch 256GB wifi..havent had a chance to take it out of the box yet but will do that tomorrow hopefully its good otherwise will have to do this all over again LOL

And I thought the price I paid for my 10.5 256 lte, $670 was a deal. That's an awesome price you got there!
