I finally gave up on the X. I traded my sister for her 7+ and I haven't had any eye strain since. It's too bad about the screen, but hopefully Apple will address this later on.

And if they happen to somehow fix this in a software update in the near future, I made her promise to trade it back :p

I have migraine headache for 10+ years. Migraine often comes with feeling of nausea. That is the main difference between migraine and regular headache. I am a picky and sensitive man, but usually I don’t get migraine from looking at TV or screens. I get it from sudden weather& air pressure change or uneven sunlight in the room.

After reading this post, I went to apple store to check the IPhone X eye strain issue. With X and 8 plus side by side for 5 mins, I did see X is not easy on the eyes. It also makes me little bit dizzy when you scrolled down the pages. It was so relaxed to look back at 8 plus. Maybe I only looked at the X for 5 mins, it didn’t trigger me having a migraine, but I know The screen display of X is not for me.

I am thinking about upgrading my 6 plus because I find I need to charge the battery more often than before. Sometimes the battery will drop from 20% to 1% in just several mins. X is out of the picture, 8 plus is already at the end of old trend and X makes the bezel on the 8 plus even bigger. Maybe I should just replace the battery of my 6 plus?

I noticed a couple weeks ago that I had been getting more frequent migraines than usual the previous couple weeks. I use an iPhone 7. I turned Night Shift on 24/7 (4:01 AM-4:00 AM) and it has helped. Try googling "blue light migraines" (or "eye strain" in place of migraines) to find some enlightening (no pun intended) info on blue light and how it impacts your eyes and brain. Hope this helps.

Completely random thought here but is it possible something about iOS11 could be causing the issues? I have no idea how but its release would coincide with right around the time my migraines increased in frequency. Just a thought...

I didn’t even know the term PWD before I read this post. Now I feel very lucky the Sony X850D TV I bought at the end of last year didn’t come with PWD. I also bought LG OLED B6p(might come with PWD) last year and returned for picture quality(not eye strain reason).

i wouldn't count on that ;) got that in writing?

Suffered Classical migraine 45 years. I don't think its possible to explain to a non migraine sufferer what a migraine is like.:(

Migraine have had an enormous negative impact on my life and without doubt made my quality of life very difficult indeed on times.

There are several different types of migraine. Classical migraine is pain on one side of the head, generally the temple, with vomiting, photo phobia a feeling like the flu with the need to lie in a dark room and just die.
Rudolph Diesel committed suicide because he found no relief. (the chap who invented the Diesel engine)
I write this as IF an attack is triggered by the iPhone X then one will not adjust to the problem. Its a trigger like smell, food, certain noise frequencies and one needs to avoid the triggers.

To those of you who do suffer from this affliction you have my sincere sympathies. PM me if you would like to continue this debate, I may be able to at least offer a little advice that may be new or some support.

Migraine is not a joke its a very serious and life changing illness that is far too often seen as a 'just a headache' or misused as a social escape excuse.

There is no magic pill to cure it, but I get it controlled after 10 years

Sell the 6+ and Get a 7+ used and call it a day. 6 to 7 is large improvements vs 7 to 8.

So, raising the display to 100% helped with the eye-strain, but the display is too bright now. I wish the display would have less flickering. :(

Honestly thinking about returning the phone and getting an 8 Plus instead.
Turn the brightness 100% will cause even worse uncomfortable.

I think one possible future solution on the horizon is micro-LED. I don't know too much about this technology, but it seems to have the benefits of OLED without the drawbacks like short lifespan of the blue emissive element.

I think PWM is needed with OLED to avoid burn in and premature burnout of the blue elements. However as reported at least one of the LG phones doesn't use PWM with OLED.

Perhaps micro-LED will not require PWM and behave more like traditional LCDs.

I have no idea when these panels will become available though. Apparently they have not been produced at scale yet and the rumors I've read suggest the first apple product with micro LED may be the Apple Watch given the smaller display.

None, no issues at all, it is more comfortable on the eyes than my iPad air2

It takes a little time to adjust to OLED from LED. I know when I switch between my 7 Plus and my V30, sometimes my eyes get a tad strained. It might just take a little adjustment for some with more sensitive eyesight.

Edit: It could also be the way iOS runs? The gestures might be causing motion fatigue on your eyes?
[doublepost=1510810485][/doublepost]When I go from my 8 Plus to the X, thats when I get “Eye Strain” I dont wanna say migraine or even headache, but eyes are sore and a little woozy. I hope someone finds out if their is an issue. I have no issue with my 8 Plus; just the X

I’ve found myself also having tired eyes by the end of the day from using the phone.

Experimented with varying brightness levels, True Tone and night mode and what I’ve found was that even though True Tone is making the screen a bit yellow it actually is the solution to having tired eyes from the phones use. I think the screens blue color intensity is causing my eye strain so I’m leaving True Tone on. Probably because most of the iPhone UI is bright white and the oled whites are far more intense than the LCD ones.

My eye doctor said there is nothing wrong with my eyes. That seems to be the case for most members who complained about the eye stain issue in this post.

Is there a way to create a poll to see how many people have eye strain issue with iphone X? I am a newbie here and somehow I can't even find a way to create a new post.

I see Apple is fixing screen responsiveness issue but is not acknowledging eye strain issue. I think Apple won't take us seriously till more people speak out about the eye stain issue

Sorry to learn you suffer migraine. There is no cure. A prophylactic can be prescribed but some of those are hit and miss also have side affects OR even cause Migraines.

As you progress in years you will learn to tell the signs of an oncoming migraine (aura) and that is the time to act by taking pain killers. Taking any oral medication once the migraine has started is a waste of time as the stomach will not digest them!

Migraine do lessen as one ages. As a young teen I belong to one of the first migraine clinics in the country and was very much a guinea pig. The two professors of medicine where very good but such research was in its infancy. I had to carry a diary around with me for 18 months detailing how I lived and how my life style linked with my attacks. It was complex and bought me zero benefit though hoped others latter may have benefited? University was a nightmare due to the florescent lighting. Happy days, not.

Weather is another trigger in some people. Light is one major problem (optical disturbances). Any sort of flickering even if we cannot see it tends to cause many sufferers a problem such as florescent lighting.

BTW Migraine are not a headache with nausea. They are a much more complex illness. The cause of the pain is well known and documented, its generally an increase in the production of 5-Hydroxytryptamine, Modern research questions that as being THE total factor but its certainly the main antagonist. Why this imbalance occurs is another question?

Many different types or classifications of migraine with many theories and many triggers. One has to manage ones own migraine and learn, with time, what some of the triggers are, how to avoid them and most importantly to recognise the early onset of the migraine and to prevent it from becoming full blown.
Fortunately if the attack is extremely severe one can be treated at an A&E with an intravenous drug that helps most sufferers. Twice in my life I have actually had a migraine in the eye? Felt like my eye was going to explode. Scared the daylights out of me and my GP sent me to the A&E department. Enough of that....yuk yuk yuk

Point is and back on topic, if any optical stimulus causes pain or eye irritation we MUST avoid contact with said stimulus.
The eye does not self repair and once the optic nerve is damaged we are screwed. IF one is certain the screen of the iPhone X causes any eye problem, as it did with me, its best avoided. There are numerous other mobiles available, I purchased the iPhone 8 plus and am happy with that along side my Note 8, both wonderful devices.

Best wishes to those who do endure migraines. You have my sincere sympathies.

It's not an eye sight issue people.

Errm, yes and no. I know what you mean, the problem is not an eye sight problem as in needing glasses (it could be that as well though) The problem is caused by a visionary disturbance. The optical nerve becomes sensitive and one of the many issues is this will pass onto the CNS causing the tummy problems also headaches or dizziness etc.

Persons with perfect eyesight can be affected with this 'problem'. I think that is what you mean? That is true.

While I'm not suffering any headaches anymore while using the phone, my eyes do feel rather tired and I find it a little hard to focus on text after a day of using the phone.

goshindoman, Do you get your migraine controlled?

My family have migraine history from my mother side. I started to have migraine when I hit 30(I am now 40s). Everybody ‘s trigger might be different. Florescent lights never bother me and I don’t have aura. Unevenly sunlight and sudden air pressure drops give me headache. You can kind of manage sunlight, but how can you avoid air pressure change?

Western research finds out that blood vessel expands when migraine comes, so those pills shrink your blood vessel to get rid of the headache. It worked for me but I found the attack increased from twice a month to every other day after taking the pills. Doctor said I shouldn’t take that much migraine pills and recommend me to try some low dose anti-depressant pill. My wife is pharmacist and she doesn’t want me to take them. So I start to try some natural way to fight migraine.

With my Asian background, over the years, I find meditation is a good way to reduce the severity of headache. Just sit down, don’t hear, speak and watch anything, shutting off those 3 senses for 20 mins to calm down your body & mind. In Asian way of thinking, we don’t care about whether the headache is caused by 5-Hydroxytryptamine or expanding of blood vessel or something else. It just using calming down your mind to calming down your body, then to naturally change your body from whatever abnormal status back to normal status. I tried and it can greatly reduce your migraine headache to a minor headache, then goes away.

Another way that works great for me is doing sea wave movement on your spine from tail bone to neck bone. It looks like dolphin swimming. The key is doing it in a relax and effortless manner. Life is full of temptation, sometimes I spend all day reading “fake news” on screen/phone(which I shouldn’t especially I have migraine), it drains lots of your internal energy and I start to have little bit early symptom of migraine. I do spine wave movement 50 times and the symptom goes away. It might have something to do with loosening up the spine/nerve/nerve connected to my brain.

My migraine is not completely cured yet, but I can have a good control of it and doesn’t bother me much anymore. In my 10+ years of experience, I don’t think there is a magic pill to cure migraine. The best way is working hard trying to find a natural way(no side effect) to prevent and minimize it.

Yeah, I was kinda in the same situation. I wasn't having the massive headaches anymore, but my eyes were noticeably more tired after using it for prolonged periods of time. Perhaps it would've gotten better with time, but it just wasn't worth it for me anymore.

For those of you keeping the X, please keep us updated if the eye strain ever goes away completely :D

eye strain & more permanent damage or a phone with some new features, you need to ask yourself which one is more important?

X main issues for me for 5-10 mins at apple store:
  • Scrolling up down looks fuzzy and make me feel dizzy
  • raised screen effect first looks fancy, but later on looks uneasy
  • It is just much easy and relaxed to read on 8 plus than X
if X doesn't look good for 5 mins, I know it is not for me and I won't try to ask my eyes to adjust it for longer time
