You’re thoughts are what I’m most curious to hear. Not only have you been super vested in this, but you also do extremely well at putting your thoughts into text. Very much looking forward to your review and hoping it works for you.
Thank you, I do sincerely appreciate that. I try to put a lot of thought and consideration into these posts, especially since I still think Apple monitors this thread in particular.

I’m going to hold off on posting my thoughts and experience for a few more days but I definitely do still get migraines from this display. In fact, I’m back on my iPhone SE currently and it’s more comfortable.

Back in the day of CRT monitors (late 1990s) I had become so sensitized to CRT 60hz flicker that I couldn’t even walk into a computer store without getting nailed by peripheral flickering from the display monitors. I wouldn’t even look at them, but my eyes picked them up peripherally and the eye strain would hit me immediately.
It was a real problem.
I think once a person gets sensitized to something (foods, chemicals, light sources) it becomes like an allergic reaction, and no amount of “gutting it out” will alleviate the symptoms.

How long does it usually take for Notebook Check to add new phones? I’d just be interested to see the rates of PWM across the 13 lineup.

Well I’m looking forward to your thoughts!! Sadly, I’m back on my 11. I do think the 13 pro series can work for me, but for now, I’ll wait until the extended holiday return window. I’d like to try the max then. I am sorry you’re still getting migraines. Something HAS to give for those of us impacted even if others choose to laugh in our direction.

I agree with this. But I will say I think the ability to notice the difference in display quality is similar to how not everyone is bothered by PWM. I personally find the screen of my 11 to be better than my 8 Plus. Not sure what apple did to tweak it, but I prefer it to the higher ppi 8 plus. Others like yourself can immediately see the difference in quality in favor of the 401 ppi screens. It’s weird how we can all have such unique experiences.
It was funny how I could tell the pixelation of writing on the 11 coming down from the 12 mini 😂

never noticed it coming up on LCDs until compared to the OLED.

man that's relatable, haha. I had the displeasure of being in a training room that had all old CRT monitors, and I couldn't figure out why they were flashing out the corner of my eye. Thankfully I was late twenties so I wasn't old and in pain from everything, like I am now, haha.

But yeah, exactly, once your brain picks something up, it's hard to let it go. It's like those visual puzzles where you can see it two ways. Hidden pictures or something? Once you see it one way, it's hard to make yourself see it the other way. Or those "When you see it" photos... once you see it, you can't go back to not understanding the picture.

Well I'm out. Another ocular headache after a few hours on the 13 Pro. It triggered sooner as I have likely stored some headache from Sunday with pain relief/suppression medication.

I was so hopefull and it's stings a little more this year as I had more time to use these devices. They are so slick and fast but my trusty 7 plus is back in my hand. It wasn't any easy transition back as the 7 plus lower refresh rate felt like everything was in slow motion for a second and gave me some motion sickness feelings!

Will just have to keep refreshing the refurbished store daily for an 8 Plus in Space Grey now. I can't face running the Android lottery right now on the hunt for another device I can actually use - it's too depressing.

I’m returning my iPhone 13. I got a migraine yesterday behind/above my eyes. It was worse than the migraines I got at the weekend. Then this morning I woke up and my eyes feel so sore. They’re not bloodshot or anything but they just have a pain behind them. I don’t remember ever having this pain before even with the iPhone X so this needs to be returned.

I’ll try the Pro at some stage when Notebook check does some digging. It’s 5-6 weeks delivery to order one now so I’ll wait.

So, is the jury still out on the 13 mini?
It seems to have mixed reports so far, and no definitive PWM review yet as far as I can tell.

Since there’s mixed reports, it’s like we should try it for ourselves. Two weeks return period should be enough to know if the PWM is bothersome.

that’s where I’m at right now. I’ll hit up the apple store to see colors and then pick up a mini to give it a test drive. I still feel weird with the 2 weeks no questions asked return window, but for a health issue it seems reasonable.

Yeah, that’s weird. I haven’t heard people having problems with the 11..
Today for me is day 3 with 13 pro max. My eyes feel a lot better than they did on Friday.. no sick feeling (until I start thinking about it.. more so like oh wow. I feel great, then I start feeling sick lol). 4 hours and 39 minutes of screen time so far today. 8 1/2 hours yesterday. 7 hours on Friday

Thank you all for your feedback, have you tried lowering white point and increasing brightness? If so, any enhancement? I know frequency should remain the same at all levels, but maybe modulation varies...

Welcome to the new 2022 iPhone

I'll wait for the notebookcheck review on the display, I've been having eye straing for a few days and I can assure that it is related to the iPhone 13 Pro. When I bought the 12 last year I also had eye strain for the forst week or so and after that it was totally fine...

I very easily get tired and dry eyes, so I think the better thing to do is wait a few days and try, I got until 8th of October to return it so...

That's where I am too. I do have eye strain from the 13 Pro but it seems a little better than the 12 Pro. At this point last year, I was ready to return it and I'm still trying to hold on this time. I'd like to wait as long as possible to return it, just to make sure that my eyes won't get used to it. They get strained when I change anything.

On my orders page on the Apple website, it tells me that I have to contact Apple to initiate a return. It doesn't give me any dates on return by, but I know that it's a two week window. So...does the phone have to be back at Apple by the two weeks (which would be October 8th)? For example, could I contact them on Wednesday or Thursday (10/6 and 10/7) and start the return and give the box to Fedex? I hate that the website doesn't tell me that. Most retailers have a return window clearly posted but my orders page doesn't.

That’s what makes Apple great though. They have the wiggle room to work with people on case by case basis. Give ‘em a call and see what they say. :)

I think my minor issue with my 13 Mini is not really the flicker (I turn brightness way up and then darken the screen by increasing reduce white point- that made my 12 Mini easy on my eyes over the last year) is the added brightness/sharpness to the display. If I turn brightness down really any more, then I start seeing effects from the added flicker... I have a privacy screen protector on it, but it's an HD clarity one, so it likely is not really providing any added "shading" or filtering of the sharp brightness of the whites on the screen.

Are there screen protectors out there that actually act as a bit of a filter for that, to filter out the sharp bright light from the screen?

It's not bad and doesn't cause headaches, it's just noticeable as I look back and forth between my 12 Mini and 13 Mini- with just a slight bit of added discomfort on the 13 Mini.

Pro Max 13 since friday, been using it for 3 hours on Saturday and 3 on Sunday, trying to see if it would irritate my eyes and it did: right eye feels like there's sand in it and gets watery. Slightly annoying feeling on my right temple as well, not like the major headache I had with previous models.
Used it for about an hour yesterday and slightly less today, see if it'll get better. Would really like to keep this, because camera's are amazing on it (especially in low light, crazy how much detail and color they manage to get in the photo).
Otherwise it'll be back to the 8 Plus again, praying for a miniled phone I guess.

There is always this:

It may be an email black hole, but doesn’t hurt.
As a former Apple employee, trust me when I say all feedback is read. Whether it is acted upon or followed up with, is a completely different story.
