People over reacting the screen is fine not one issue with it
Yeah, because your experience speaks for everyone.

Lucky me, this doesn’t affect me. This isn’t an issue only on X but also Samsung products as well due to OLED technology by rapidly turn off and on pixel. Maybe a reason Apple is looking into making micro-LED instead than using OLED in the future
That would be great, I hope that pans out. There's also that rumor of the 6.1 inch LCD iPhone X as well, so we have a few solutions to watch for.Possibly some good news, was reading on Seeking Alpha this morning (investing website), and there’s a rumor Apple is going to use LG OLED displays possibly next year. Hopefully this is true, as from what I’ve gleaned from this thread LG doesn’t appear to use PWM in their OLED displays.
So hopefully we can use the next generation iPhone X without worry of headaches or eye strain.

Clearly written by a very fortunate person who has never experienced a migraine and I hope you never will.
Keep healthy,

Untrue regarding Samsung mobiles. I have owned nearly every model since Samsung started using OLED tech and never experienced a problem NOR read of a problem on the numerous Android forums I am a member.

I will again make it clear, Apple had the screens manufactured by Samsung BUT to Apple specifications. It is not some 'bog standard' Samsung screen being used in the iPhone X, its designed, specified and regulated by Apple.

Yeah, it's pretty much all but confirmed that it's the PWM flicker. So has the possibility of the IR dots from Face ID being the culprit been ruled out? I am on the fence about the X because I am not sure how comfortable I feel with IR being shot into my eye every time I want to unlock the phone. New tech sometimes causes me to feel unsafe i.e. gripping external antennas on iPhone 4.... Maybe I should wear a metal body suit?
So just curious, what did you say to Apple to actually get a response from the engineering team? And are you anticipating a real solution? Or just an acknowledgement of the issue?I got a bit further than that . Should have a response from the engineering team soon.
I truly feel sorry for everyone affected. This isn't a fun thing to have to deal with. Here's that phone that we've all been waiting for, that promises to be so great, and so much fun, and so amazing, the Swiss Army knife of phones, that does it all, in a nice form, with a killer screen... available, yet a health hazard for many.

Your combined experiences have convinced me to forgo the X and get the 8. I was really looking forward to getting this new form factor (smaller than the 8 Plus, only marginally bigger than the 8, but with a full screen), and the double camera. But alas, I cannot wait for next year's version of the X. I need a new phone now. I am hopeful that this is a problem that Apple simply cannot ignore. 10% of users affected is too high. And this isn't just a bad reception, "your holding it wrong" kinda issue. This is a real problem.
I had to switch desks at the office because the overhead lighting gave me regular migraines. The kind that no painkiller can help with. So I would call myself most likely susceptible to this sort of screen flicker. Frankly, I'm scared to even try it out. Throw in the worries about possible premature screen degradation through burn-in, and the exorbitant price (not that the 8 is much less, really), and the decision is quite clear, really.

Well, there's always next year.

This is currently a high-priority issue that Apple’s engineering team is working on directly so if there is a solution we will find out soon. I have suggested an option in Accessibility to modify the way that the brightness is modulated.
I think the difference that led to such a high level of escalation is that Apple is acknowledging this as an issue of safety.
(I asked Apple if I could share this info and they said I did not have to keep it confidential.)
Very good news guys, so at least we’ll get an Apple official reply to this issue. Incredibly, I never got any response to any of the 4 mails I’ve sent to TCook mail....
I’m glad you’ve made some progress with Apple. Great to hear! Thanks for your perseverance. I provided feedback to Apple regarding this but didn’t hear back (nor did I expect to). I just wanted to voice my issues and hope that others with this issue would do the same. It’s great to hear Apple has apparently recognized this issue. This is currently a high-priority issue that Apple’s engineering team is working on directly so if there is a solution we will find out soon. HiInteresting. Fluorescent lights drive me nuts (the flicker) - but the X display hasn't bothered me. I need to google what the frequency of the PWM they're using is (unless you know off the top of your head?).

Hi
I have been using i phone for a 10 days . Its updated to 11.2 . I use for 2 hrs at one time . I am gaving eye strain and headache . My wife and sister are heaving same issue . I googled it and came to know its happening with many users because of pwm in oled . Can it be fixed with a software update ?? If yes when can we expect it ? Helpp please
I have read through the Samsung galaxy S8 and note 8 forums for the last two months and not one post that I can come up with regarding their issues with the same problem as the iPhone X. If anybody can come up with one please post here I would be most interested.
Where and when can we expect an official reply?
They told me I can post the resolution that the engineering team arrives at. Whether they publicly address it will probably be dependent on whether they’re able to release a software update to disable PWM.
