Hello everyone, I've been following this forum closely for a long time because I also have problems with the PWM. I decided to do a test to buy a 12 pro and have a compatible lcd screen installed by a professional. I tried the phone on Tuesday and it's been 2 days now that I have a severe headache, I wonder if this LCD has temporal dithering, how do I know?
Maybe I got caught up in “panic” yesterday…this morning it seems better, maybe I was actually tired yesterday (what scared was that watching TV instead of iPad immediately relieved my eyes)

Another day, another iPhone

Bought the 14 Pro Max the other day so giving that trial to see how I fair - so far without using RWP just fresh out the box factory settings, minor tension head pain - no eye pain to speak off it's mainly neck pain which isn't much of an improvement but I'll see how we go, it's not the same as the 14 Plus in terms of it's effects, I'd say it's better overall, given I haven't used RWP as of yet

Will keep everyone updated on my suffering over the next few days - Merry Christmas

This looks promising at least for Samsung phones: https://www.sammobile.com/news/galaxy-s23-crazy-bright-display-stronger-glass-protection/

The South Korean firm is also said to have improved PWM dimming of close to 2,000Hz, slightly less than the BOE Q9 screen with a PWM dimming of 2,160Hz. This should reduce eye strain by a fair margin.

I can currently use my S22+ without any noticeable issues, but naturally any improvement in this front is much welcome and makes (provided that the rumor is valid) upgrading to the S23 series quite a no-brainer.

Belated holiday greetings everyone!

Yesterday among my treasured gifts (this year my husband chose the theme of fuzzy comfort), I got gloriously fuzzy socks, fuzzy slippers and fuzzy pajamas as well as fun jewelry from the kids, warm fuzzy lined winter hiking boots and then…technology I so far seem able to use: Kindle 2022 and the Kindle Fire HD 8+ 2022 version!!!

On the Kindle Fire I got to watch one episode of an hour long old tv show yesterday (while enduring nonstop interruptions). Nevertheless, the experience was refreshingly devoid of weird sensations behind my eyes. I can also read this site on the Silk browser though I still prefer posting via phone.

And I got to read a whopping two chapters of my book on the Kindle. That’s my fault. There’s a lot of amusing distractions going on. (It’s so far a much happier year than last year when my dad went into the hospital so believe me, I am appreciative of all of this hubbub).

And so far, so good. It was a pleasant experience to read on the Kindle display both in daylight and in the dark, and I gloried in the lightness of the kindle vs my iPhone 11 or 14 Pro Max.

I’m relying more and more on my S23 Ultra for stuff like email. With the kids using Discord for texting their friends I’m considering moving out of iOS if iPhone 15 continues this bizarre phenomenon of irritating my nervous system.

I had an iPad and keyboard on my wishlist but fortunately told my husband to not get it for me just in time. He got my text as he was about to place the order. I was gutted to have to do that, but I don’t want to be dealing with this Apple display weirdness anymore. OLED, LCD, it doesn’t seem to matter to my eyes and brain. Apple is doing something weird.

My S22 Ultra display is OLED and I can read news to my hearts content on it with no issues. I still limit my time but if I’m stuck somewhere and need to use it, I can do so in comfort.

I hope you all are doing well. I’m keeping everyone in my thoughts and especially those struggling with extreme cold and rising expenses.

Any updates ?

I first experienced terrible PWM headaches when I got the iPhone X when it launched. I switched to the iPhone 8 then iPhone 11 and that was perfect. Now my iPhone 11 is on its last legs and I need to replace it. Given that the iPhone X was a disaster, what is the most PWM friendly phone from the 13/14 lineup? I had a look at the SE but the screen is too small and I need Face ID.

I am on my second day with 14PM. My experience so far is probably one of the best among the OLEDs i ve tried but yet NOT 100% pain free. Definitely better than 14 and 14 plus. I only have small kind of headache. Yet no nausea or eyes fatigue. I will keep using it one more day because yesterday i didn’t sleep well and then back to my 11 as it seems.

I am in the US on vacation and i want to buy a new ipad since mine (ipad air 2) is starting to be slow and they cost less here than in Italy.

After an hour of trying it at the apple store I came out destroyed (dizziness) and the only ones giving me "positive vibes" were ipad 9th and ipad pro 13.

Of the two I prefer the 13 but it is wasted for my use so I am tempted to give the 9th a try even though it still has the old design.

Does anyone have it in the forum? Or did anyone who had the air 2 manage to switch it for a recent ipad?

3rd day with 14PM. Nausea has not kicked in. My symptoms are very very minor. A little bit eye dryness and minor head discomfort that it’s not consistent. This is better than even 13 mini.

I have the iPad 9th Gen. and it is absolutely sufficient for my activities (videos, surfing, etc.). I like the design anyway, since I also own the iPhone SE ;)

So i wrote an email about this to Tim Cook 2 times and got no reply but the third time (2 weeks ago) i got an email back from someone from the customer relations department. :) I asked if Tim Cook really had seen my email and he explained to me that he could not say anything about the internal processes within Apple but that indeed my mail to Tim cook was forwarded to some people in the company to look at.

After a few calls and a basic technical apple care troubleshooting he forwarded my findings to engineering.
Then my contact person came back with feedback from engineering :D:)

- Yes we are aware of the fact that some people experience this issues.
- It is due to the screen technology and not your specific device.
- A tip is to enable auto brightness  (that made me wonder if they acutually understand the issue) But they explained that this is no solution but it could help because you have the correct brightness in all light environments.
- No thanks, we don´t need your help or additional feedback, we know about the issue.
- There is no estimation on when we have a solution software or hardware, but we work on it.
- We assure you that your feedback is been picked up by important people in the company and gets attention.

So no solution for now... but if all the above is actually true i think it gained some new attention at Apple. So please keep sending your feedback to Apple!

I also have tried to run it up the support chain at Apple. I didn't email Tim, but I did at one point get to an AppleCare supervisor there who seemed to be aware of the issues and who supposedly added to a feedback/ticket that was being kept track of by engineering. Speaking to the accessibility support about the current features wasn't helpful, although several of the AppleCare reps suggested I do so. I got a variety of responses that ranged from sympathetic to dismissive. If they are aware of the issue, the awareness isn't universal within their support departments. Hopefully that's changing and they can come up with some sort of solution. I'd love to get a new modern iPhone!

Did you attached this topic on your email ? :)

My iPhone XR is circling the drain. I think I’m going to need a new phone very soon. I would love an iPhone but had to return the 13 Pro last year because of the PWM. I’m guessing the 14 range will be exactly the same.

Are there any flagship phones on the market that are good for PWM sufferers? Or if not flagship, at least semi-decent?

Maybe.....but it's still down to individual usage.

Apple's only flagship phone (in my opinion): https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-iphone/iphone-se

All of the other ones are defective.

Aargh aargh suffering for years of eye strain. Ever since X. The pain the dizzyness. Oh lord! Cannot stand it!

Should I buy iPhone 14 & return it? :)
