I am like you — I want a modern iPhone so badly. Unfortunately, none of the current OLED models will work for us… and there is clear evidence why. I am still in awe that Apple hasn’t stopped using PWM yet. Flickering displays are so early 2000s.

I truly think our only hope is if social media influencers start showing their followers what their phones are really doing… but it’ll never happen. No upside for them.

Even if I didn’t feel effects of PWM, I would constantly be thinking about it while using my phone.

Nothing else to say — just pure frustration.
Same here. We can try to contact MKHBD or the Verge or whatever to address this issue. Maybe if they make an video about this and other YouTubers/websites/companys will follow and if it gets more negative attention. Maybe companies like Apple and Samsung start listening.

From what i am reading iPhone 14 non pro is more likely to not have a Samsung panel. Just saying.

If I remember right I was able to use a standard 14 last year for a week but I constantly felt a little queasy which made me keep burping so I gave up. For me, this will be classed as the mildest negative reaction to all OLED iPhones.

I am currently on the iPhone 11 on its last legs. How is the iPhone SE 2022? Is it a worthy upgrade? Or should I just put in a new battery in my 11 and ride this bad boy a little longer. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Just replace the battery in your 11. Going back to a small screen and touch ID on the SE would be painful — I went from an 8 to 11 and there’s no way I would want to go back to that style.

After 20 phones of searching i just found one 14 pro max with LG screen. All the others were with Samsung. I may pull the trigger.

I actually bought an SE 2020 just for kicks a couple years ago, I figured it'd just be a good backup phone but I ended up loving it so much it became my main phone. Upgraded to a 2022 last year for the added ram and A15, absolutely love it. It flies with the A15, battery is sufficient for my use, camera is great, night mode is missing but there are apps like Halide or Neuralcam that supplement that feature, and the small size is a breath of fresh air after carrying bricks for years.

In the end though it kind of comes down to whether you prefer Face ID or Touch ID. I prefer Touch ID so the SE is the one for me. At worst, you could try it and just return it if you don't like it.

False alarm. Forget about panel variation. I contacted a friend of mine who had sold him my 14 pro max. We put it on 3utools and it has LG panel. So it has nothing to do if it is LG or Samsung….. they all suck!
Some panels can look noticeably better than others, but I would suspect that they are all programmed to the same finely-tuned brightness controllers… which still cause us headaches.

Haven’t had a problem with the display on either a 13 or 14. Occasionally I’ll see ‘scanning’ after effects when looking away but very rarely. I run the slightly amber night mode display 24/7.

There is a new post in the Apple Silicon Mac sub forum about OLED display roadmap rumors, which I found profoundly depressing.

6yrs. 400 pages. On our way to 10k posts 😵‍💫
This is a problem that’s more widespread than implied and shocking that there hasn’t been a solution for modern devices, besides the outdated display technology on iPhone SE. There is a real market opportunity here for a flicker-free OLED.
This is getting depressing. Either Apple will figure out how to fix this on OLED when they switch the entire product lineup over, which I’ve been ironically hoping they would do prior to trying iPhone X, or they’ll completely disregard PWM-sensitive users and we won’t be able to own modern Apple products for several years until they switch to a superior display technology.

The A15 on the SE is a better SOC than the A13 and the Qualcomm modem in the SE is also better than the intel one that was used in the 11.

Wow, a 60/40 split.

I take back anything I said in this thread that may have hurt, or offended people.

Antidepressants are great 🤘

There are still no problems with the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
I just love it, it's so beautiful and the technology is outstanding.
I'm very grateful that the iPhone 15 Pro Max doesn't annoy me.
So, should we be trying iPhone 15 Pro Max? ;)

Honestly it starts to feel excessive buying it solely to test considering the limited availability and higher starting price when there’s still a higher chance that a majority of us here won’t be able to enjoy using it.

Kudos on finding an iPhone that causes no issues for at least own PWM Man.

Pulled the trigger on a 15 Pro max - will report the microwave rate vs the 15 Pro when in hand - I can't sleep at night knowing @PwmMen is content
I wrote the 15 Pro Max off as being too nice and limited to go through a PWM test that will most likely result in failure and disappointment. I’ve also found I tend to get most attached to the Max iPhones. As an iPhone enthusiast I haven’t grown attached to any of the 6.1” iPhones, which surprises me a little bit as that’s the standard size. But I suppose there isn’t much practical difference for my goals of using a smartphone less frequently throughout the day. I would buy iPhone 15 mini as a statement.

That’s the odd part for some users: they find luck with random iPhones each generation, or they’re sensitive to some models and not others. There are also people on Reddit reporting good luck with iPhone 15 Pro Max. Meanwhile measurements and data show that not much has changed.

sorry in advance.....

(I would have made more effort via Photoshop but the post count was against me so a quick & dirty meme app had to make do.)
