yahoo released a statement (and later retracted it) that said they expect facebook to be released before the new version of yahoo chat, even though yahoo chat was submitted before facebook, so yes, they are

Tonight?

I have had a PayPal and an Uno update...come on Facebook! Imagine after this wait it turns out to be useless and we all wish we have 2.5 still ha ha

Maybe what will be a good idea, instead of scrapping the approval, let users opt in to use "unapproved" apps while they are pending official approval and make it so you have to search for the app, and they wont appear in the chart or be featured while they are pending approval, but if people look it up they can still download it? reading back... it sounds like a bad idea... haha, ill post it anyway

It is a bad idea. If people starting using unapproved apps that are later found to have something that makes Apple or AT&T cry then there will be a lot of unhappy people when the app has to be removed.

This would probably work but not as searched apps, maybe with promo codes, so it's a more controlled distribution. You could even do something like an "App Beta Test Program" so they can make sure the app doesn't crash *Cough*GPush*Cough*.

Even that has its drawbacks because again, customers would feel cheated if an app they liked was taken off the App Store (and thus their iPhones/iPod Touches). What Apple really need to do is overhaul the whole process. Things will probably improve when they open up the iPhone to other carriers. Just now I reckon most of the problems are coming from AT&T. Apple really do need more than 40 testers though. That's a staggeringly small number for the amount of apps being made.

at&t doesn't care what the app does as long as it's not revenue impacting like google voice. apple needs to get more testers, and fast. but since they are always worried about margins, they will probably take their time

I've had several apps and updates in review for a month now. I finally decided to contact Apple regarding this just now. This review process is effing BS.

In an age where a whole generation has never known anything but instant information exchange and gratification, I don't understand why Apple thinks people would have the patience for this.

The 'Guilty until proven innocent' argument falls apart simply because the iPhone uses the public airwaves. For the same reason the FCC has authority over such things. Rember the huge SMS hack that was prevented just a month back? Imagine if every fart app and flashlight on the app store had those abilities. It would shut down communications. It doesn't apply to the web or full computer because they don't need broadcast frequencies to function.

If apps only worked over wifi, I'm sure there would be a lot more 'approve everything' going on.

The FCC does more harm than good.

How exactly is it possible for an iPhone app to "shut down communications"? You're worried we won't have broadcast frequencies? Broadcasts are made using computers. What if a virus went around that shut down all of those computers?

I can understand Apple wanting to control what's in their store. Supermarkets, electronic stores, malls, etc. decide which products they carry. But why shouldn't Facebook be allowed to distribute their app on their own instead of through Apple's storefront?

The problem is, this is an update to an existing application. I can understand 2+ weeks for new applications but not for updates.

and it is FACEBOOK.

No matter what clueless posters on this thread will say, waiting TWO FREAKIN WEEKS for an update after it is RELEASED BY ITS DEVELOPER is ridiculous.

Joe Hewitt should put this app on Cydia. He could singlehandedly get tens of thousands of iPhone users to jailbreak overnight. Maybe Apple would get their priorities straight then. Do it Joe! Harness the power!

I understand if the app was just released for the first time, but apps like facebook having to wait more then 2 weeks for just an update? That's just ridiculous!

The currently version of the app is really buggy and to be honest, is useless and we really need this update.
Apple doesn't care anyways.

Well YAhoo messenger was just approved and updated so Facebook to follow soon?!

Facebook should NOT have to wait 2 weeks! Ridiculous!
