Facebook should NOT have to wait 2 weeks! Ridiculous!

I use facebook everyday on my iPhone but I don't understand why everyone is up in arms about it taking two weeks... Is your daily life really affected by the lack of a few bug fixes and updated UI... there are more important things to fret about.

You are going to lose this battle, because there are a million other people who feel the same way as me. It's Apple I'm mad at.

Actually one could say its the developers... All the developers submitting apps to the app store is overwhelming apple?

I mean its just an app and app we have lived without for over a year.. im sure we can wait a few more days or a few weeks..

Yes, it's the fault of developers that Apple can't get their act together.

Did it ever occur to you that with record profits Apple can afford to hire another 100 people to approve applications?

Software moves very fast. While we can all appreciate Apple wanting to 'get it right' with a popular app like this, there's little reason for it to take 2 weeks to get approval unless there is a serious bug in it that needs to be fixed.

Dude, if you don't care then don't post. Don't tell others what they should or shouldn't care about. I could just say the same about these forums, I mean for sure there are more important things to do than, you know, posting on a forum on the internet.

Adding more people isn't going to fix the problem. The app store is broken and the approval process is broken and needs to be reworked, not throwing more people to do it now.

and it is FACEBOOK.

No matter what clueless posters on this thread will say, waiting TWO FREAKIN WEEKS for an update after it is RELEASED BY ITS DEVELOPER is ridiculous.

Yeah, the guy works for Facebook, its not like its a malicious third party app that will copy your login information.

Apple only has 40 people....let me repeat that 40 people reviewing apps for the App Store. I think we all agree that with ALL that money Apple makes, they can hire more people!

Its not that I don't care its that is it really that big of a deal.. Ya i want the update just as bad as the next person but I mean its just an app...

and what I mean by "it could be the developers fault" was that there is plenty of ifs ands, and buts... and there is probably plenty of blame to go around... If apple wasn't flooded with 8,500 fart apps facebook might actually be approved quicker!

But only time will tell and hopefully that is soon

And since they are flooded with 8,500 fart apps, I think most of us would agree that they need to have more than 40 people on hand to test/approve them.

Voice of reason here...

I'd like to see it go faster too, but let's keep things in perspective.

No other device that any of us have ever owned gets the kind of 3rd party developer support that the iPhone gets. NOT. EVEN. CLOSE. Heck, I don't have this many apps on my PC.

The fact that Apple created a mobile device, and then a 3rd party developer program, that sees this level of success in this short a time is amazing. The fact that Apple manages to keep up with it the flow of new apps at all, and maintain the quality standards that we all enjoy, is doubly amazing. I've never had an app crash my whole phone, and don't see them crash that often in general. I sure can't say that about the Windows phones I've owned in the past.

I'd like to see Apple fix what's broke in the app store, but there's a whole lot that's not broke, and I can wait a couple weeks for Facebook. And let's be fair - Facebook took their sweet time developing this update too. It's not all Apple.

Has anyone read this Yahoo! Messenger update blog??

http://www.ymessengerblog.com/blog/2009/08/19/and-so-we-wait-on-apple/

"If you want all of the gory details… Two weeks ago we submitted an updated version of Yahoo! Messenger for the iPhone to the App Store for approval, but withdrew it to make some additional fixes and enhancements. Doing so reset the approval process timeline.
So the newly submitted Yahoo! Messenger for iPhone app has been with Apple for less than a week, and is well within the timeframe for their approval process."

Finally someone who sees the light!

Good Post!

Adding more people isn't going to fix the problem. The app store is broken and the approval process is broken and needs to be reworked, not throwing more people to do it now.

Adding more people is going to greatly alleviate the problem as it is going to take a great deal of time for Apple to revamp the way the app store and approval process function.

40 people to handle 10's of thousands of app submissions? Give me a break.

Apple should;

1. Hire more people.
2. Use a rating system for submissions.
a. based on previous downloads of a given app (new version)
b. based on publisher (previous track record of applications)
c. based on the application price.
d. based on category and key word for application

Paid for applications that have high numbers of subscribers should get the top treatment from Apple since these publishers are generating revenue.

Examples;

Todo, Navigon, etc

This should be followed by free apps with huge followings. Examples;

Facebook, etc.

This should be followed by paid for apps with smaller followings, and finally by free applications that have relatively little following.

This would help counter the current culture which is that every application must be slashed to $1 to generate sales. If your app is $1 it is going to spend 2-3 months in the approval process. If you increase the price to $5 and the application sucks, you won't sell it.

hmmmmm.... i really could care less if facebook gets approved quickly or not.... guess i'm an oddity here on MR.....

i might be able to agree with you if this was happening to the first facebook application. your life will still go on, and if it can't use safari to access the full site. problem solved.

wait a couple of days and you can update. seriously it isn't something to get upset about. it's a facebook application.

Thank you!.. its just an application

With all the free and $.99 apps, how many testers can they really afford? It seems to me that hiring more reviewers to handle the multitude of free apps has little payback to Apple.

You apparently missed the entire rest of my post in which I indicated they should actually weight low price apps near LAST on their list of what to spend time approving.

Maybe it duplicates some core phone functionality and they had to send it up to an executive committee for additional study...
