August 31st can't come soon enough. :D

august 31st?? is that the new rumor?

The reason why updates are probably taking so long now, is because apple has had to work on defending their approval process to the FCC. That probably put some things on hold or at least slowed it up. Has anybody else noticed that there have been a LOT fewer updates this past week than there were in the past? I don't think that's a coindedence. I just hope we get the fb update by the weekend...

I heard from a very trusted source that it was held up due to some minor issues; but has now been cleared for release. Apple wants it out before Snow Leopard; and thus it is supposed to be pushed out today at 12:00pm (noon) so that everyone has it by Friday.

That is why the approval process is taking too long as your 'friend' is too busy on facebook leaking information like that...meh

I'm also counting on it being released on Friday. If not, it would be Tuesday. But does anyone know if the app is posted as soon as it's approved, or are there two different teams that approve the apps, and post the apps in the app store?

I would hope and assume that Apple has the process streamlined enough so as soon as they click the "approve" button, then BAM it appears!

You assume wrong. The approval process is very convoluted and apps get rejected for sometimes crazy reasons.

Take a look at the blog of this guy who is working on bringing the excellent KeePass application to the iPhone. He has written very simple instructions on how to load a sample data file into the app and Apple has rejected it now four times because they don't understand how to do it.

Ultimately he had to make a video showing how to do it and they still haven't approved his app which was initially submitted over eight months ago.

I don't see how that has anything to do with having seperate teams to approve apps and then add them to the app store... I think we all know by know that the app approval process is long and complex, but I'm saying that when they finally get the green light and give the official STAMP of approval. That the app would just automatically be released to the app store, maybe with an hour or two delay.
