Oddly enough I don't really feel that way. It's been a stressful experience and I'm sure it's not over yet.

Now, I'm not saying poor me or anything, but I'm holding out on the "I'm the luckiest person alive!!!" declaration until this has all come to a close.

Thanks all, I'm off to bed.

You are soon to be a very rich man.

Have you ever thought doing the right thing? Just email The Steve, tell him you have the prototype and then ask him politely if you could get what you paid for it. At least that is what I would have done. Cheers, and excellent find.

One more thing..
Do anyone apart from me thinks that the Ebay seller is regreting right now? :D

Why is that the right thing? If you bought stock at a bargain and then it quadrupled in price, would you offer it back tot he company at the price you paid? If the notebook is not legal to posses (stolen) then I would agree - but chances are this is a legally owned item. If Apple were truly that concerned regarding this notebook it (most likely) would not have been allowed off campus or pulled from all vendors like Intel or others.

Wonder if Apple contacted Ebay?

Why? It was the amount of traffic four major Apple web-sites have generated that caused eBay to pull the listing.

Why would Apple care if the auction link was still there? It is not some grand conspiracy - it was nothing more than an early MBA and it had to trade secrets or company information that would damage Apple. If anything - it is a great story that keeps Apple in the front of many web-sites and news pieces. If I were Apple I would think in this economy and facing a slower than expected Christmas season - this would be a God sent. Free advertisement of this scale would blow the Apple marketing budget for an entire quater! If you do not buy that - check out what this type of advertising would cost - and all the e-mails sent to friends regarding this. I have sent this link to several friends because I think the story is great.

Actually, Apple told him they didn't want it back so I guess that pretty much says it wasn't stolen from them...

Cool - I read the entire post in the afternoon and have not checked past the post I replied to - so that is great for him. I wonder if this will affect the value since Apple is OK with him owning it. I figured Apple would not want it back - but for a collector that is a centerpiece.

Thanks - and I am off to read the rest of the postings. I guess I should have done that BEFORE I posted - but as my wife says - I generally act first and think later!

Post a pic from the side? I want to see how much thinner it looks with the black bottom. I'm wondering wShether apple had ever considered incorporating it into the final design to destinguish it from the pros. Anyways, isnt the new one supposed to get a carbon fiber butt? (probably just so they could charge more money for it. Sigh)

Best. Thread. Ever. What a read! :D I can't wait to see how high that goes! I'm betting on about $3000 I reckon. If you have two money-no-object collectors, it could go sky-high.

Brett, if was in your shoes, I'd have a quick google "Apple collector" or "Apple Museum" or something and just tip off anyone who you think might have deep pockets... This is a once in a lifetime shot, I'd make the most of it if I were you...!

You're a lucky guy, but you also seem like a nice guy, so I'm very happy for you; maybe you've also stumbled upon another prototype: :apple: iKarma
