Weird I just went from a Remarkable 2 to an iPad Mini6. The Remarkable 2 is an amazing device for what it does but suddenly when I put a paperlike screen protector on a Mini 6, it does pretty much the same for note taking and there is a whole lot more on an iPad mini: Safari, ToDo lists, Netflix, Spotify etc etc...
And I’m stuck in the middle. Neither the reMarkable 2 nor the iPad Pro scratch the itch. I’ll admit that the matte screen finish on the M4 gives me a modicum of hope but without using it for days, I’ll never know… or the Apple Store will need to keep shouting for guards… ;)

Funny, I feel the exact opposite. I made to do with an iPad mini 4 for years as there was a much more pressing need to update MBP's and iPhones. Now, for once the new OLED iPP really interests me and going to get one. Debating whether I need the keyboard or the pen. Probably not.

For me, my mini hits a sweet spot of ultra portability that can do iPad stuff like reading books, portable content consumption device that fits in my pocket and can be hold with one hand. When I compared the mini and air, the latter fits the exact same content on screen, (due higher density 326 vs 264 ppi) but is wastefully larger. I only need to hold the mini 30cm closer to my eyes and is the same experience.

For work I have the 15 MBA that is also a game changer for productivity due its larger display

My iPhone is my photo camera.

Seen a few responses on here from people who only use a Mac for content consumption like YouTube. I mean you do you, but that for me would just be crazy. It's like buying a Ferrari and never going to a track-day with it. I own a Mac for all the things I can't do with something cheaper. Such as running my home music-production studio. That doesn't mean you shouldn't buy a Mac just for content consumption. But I don't see the logic in it. I can buy a £299 Windows laptop from Curry's that will play YouTube videos.

For me it’s 100% a consumption device. My MacBook does all the heavy lifting. And I’m thinking of getting a ProMax next time I upgrade my iPhone. With the bigger screen size do I really need another similar device that’s only a few inches bigger?

Kudos to all the creatives and people who use iPad as their main device—the new M4 iPP is a great machine. But I’m thinking of maybe simplifying my ecosystem and getting rid of this thing, that took me twice as long to type these paragraphs on as it would have on my Mac, lol.
Why not???? Do you like to read books? If so perhaps print is better for you.

I see the new iPad as primary content consumption. My MacBook Pro's are heavy lifters but they are also big and heavy. A new OLED screen with screen size suited to long haul flights with light weight and thin. Ticks all the boxes for short trips etc.

For me it is all about screen real estate! My 15PM is simply too small to do what I love on the Internet! After years of using the on screen keyboard, I am quite fast and accurate. My speed and accuracy on the iPhone keyboard depends a lot on the spell checker! :p
Too true on the spell check. It doesn’t correct my corrections as much as it used to, but it’s still not a quick or fluid system.

I’m honestly not much of a creative or producer of things but I love my iPad Pro, it’s awesome for consuming content. Do I need it? Probably not really, but I do really like it and I can afford it so why not.

For most people, iPad is not something they need, but more on they want. It’s luxurious item that made its users more comfortable in doing stuff. So yes, if you talk about needs, most of us (including me and people surrounding me) can still alive and productive without iPad.
Honestly, recently I found out that I actually didn't need a new iPad which I bought the last year. I had iPad mini 2. Bought a new one because Safari didn't work, but I found a new browser that renders pages fast and perfectly on iOS 12 and is up to date. I can do everything on iPad mini 2 I do on my iPad 9th gen and the battery life holds up as well…

At 64 (though still working), I use the iPhone Mini (while it lasts) for calls and text mostly (and more when I'm out and about); use my iPad Mini (but will probably go to the light iPad Pro 12") for consuming with AirPods next to the wife on the couch as she watches her "drama traumatizing, reality tv, or vice versa; and for all personal business. No need for a Mac anymore. Simplifying your life as you get older is highly recommended.

iPads are totally worthless, unless you use the pen for drawing/artwork/architecture type things.

An iPhone and Macbook are really all anyone needs.
I'm always amazed at people who feel the need to insult millions of iPad users by denigrating the device they use to get their work done on a daily basis as "totally worthless." Indicates a stubbornly fixed mindset and a real lack of emotional intelligence.

Lol what a coincidence. I also previously consider eink tablet to replace my ipad because the lcd screen of my ipad 9 is very uncomfortable for me to use in long period of time. I tried boox note air 2 which is an android eink tablet, and while it is great, I realize when I write notes, I love zoom in zoom out caspability and eink just not suitable for that. And this year, I upgraded to s24U, and realize how much comfortable Oled screen is for reading. And few months later, apple release oled ipad, so yeah, I upgraded and it pretty much what I have been looking for all this time.

got room for another opinion playa? 😏

Ive got a 128gb 8tb black mbp that i use for email, web surfing, and buying on amazon. i like gadgets so i picked up the new color panel from blackmagic. they had the ipad pro in mind as its designed to fit the pro in the slot. so, i picked up the 13 inch 2tb ipad m4 to fill the slot ( didnt even know the pad was out until last week!).

i use the pad for video editing and grading when on the go. i have a backpack that carries the speed editor, color panel, mbp, akai mpc live 2, headphones, 2 phones... the pad is super light -- even with the magic keyboard attached so it does not add any real heft. pardon the glare, and no i didnt get the nano glass as i need the pad to show true colors as its referenced/calibrated

i find it funny yall ifrut'ers live in a world where you think the iphone and mac are the only things out there. im both an android and ifruit user and recognize the value in both of them. for me i need both.
