Hey all, Im here having the same problem on my iphone 8 plus with tmobile, and i noticed a possible correlation from a reddit thread with people having the same problems. One person who is also on tmobile complained of this issue, while another person on the EE UK carrier complained about it as well.

The commonality between these two carriers is that they both support a feature called EVS
(More info here: ) https://9to5mac.com/2017/09/25/iphone-8-enhanced-voice-services-evs/

What carrier is everyone on? Do they know if their carrier supports EVS as well? If apple just now implemented this in the iphone 8, maybe this could be the cause of the issue?

I’m having the same issue on AT&T on my 6S running iOS 11 GM, but it’s only happened in the past few days, but I’ve only been using my Bluetooth Beats X headphones. Anyone else w/Bluetooth? Will try a conf call tomorrow w/regular headphones to determine if there’s a difference.

Hopefully a solve comes soon.

Have my 8+ boxed up and ready to ship back. Not only does mine have the crackling earpiece issue, it also has a speck of dust/dirt behind the rear camera lens. I'm almost leaning towards a Note 8 or S8+.. or just keep rocking my jailbroken 6s+..

I would just swap it out but none of the ATT stores near me have any 256GB Space Gray 8+ in stock.

Me too. The fact that it’s ‘affecting a small number of phones’ actually means that in relative terms only a small number of people have noticed it. Including vloggers like Chris Pirillo.

I’m not confident that there will be a fix before my return window closes and I’m not accepting a refurb in the event that they don’t actually resolve it.

I'm in Australia, I get the crackling only on bluetooth in the car, not when I'm just using the earpiece/speakers on the phone itself.

I didn't initially think I suffered from this issue as did a call the other day and the phone was fine - however, I received a call today and it was definitely noticeable (iPhone 8 Plus on iOS 11), that there was a crackling sound in the earpiece?! It wasn't overly loud and the cals was indeed able to carry on fine, but it was there.

Lets hope Apple sort this with the supposed fix which they have announced.....

I'm undecided on taking the phone back for a refund and waiting until it's been cured, either through hardware or software or waiting it out and seeing what happens.

There's no way I would want to pay £800 for a phone to have it opened, repaired and handed back to me within a few weeks of ownership. I'd want a brand new one that hasn't been messed with.

Of course, once your past that 14 day period it's more likely to be a repair instead of a replacement.

That’s what i’ve been saying and this isn’t dramatism, It’s the reality.

I’m undecided about a return. Will wait until mid week next week and if there is a radio silence from Apple I’ll probably return. If it’s resolved I can buy again later. And deal with any other issues e.g. screen quality at the time.
[doublepost=1506508088][/doublepost]In an interesting variant, its not just toggling the speaker that impacts the crackle (initiating it or clearing it - mostly) but if you plug and and unplug headphones during a call it's the same issue. So it seems to be related to sound starting or stoping in the earpiece rather than anything with the phone speaker.

I know this isn't actually helping..............!

Unboxed my new SG 8 plus this morning and you can add me to the list that has clicking on phone calls....

Didn't have the issue until a call I made this morning. It's definitely intermittent. Hopefully a software fix soon... 8+ 256 on AT&T

I am giving it about 10 days, if I don’t hear anything regarding a fix from Apple I will be heading to Apple store to discuss options. If I don’t like what I hear I will just return it and wait and see what happens

Same here. I’m not risking a repair programme where someone guddles about inside my new £800 device.

Same. If there's no fix by Thursday 5th October, it's going back.

I'd rather not pay £800 for a phone that needed repair straight out the box.

Are you aware that, at this point in time, a replacement phone from Apple is exactly the same as a brand new phone? Apple hasn't had enough time to get returned phones checked, fixed, and put back into their refurbished system? I don't know how long it would take to actually start getting replacement phones that are true refurbs but I would be shocked if it is within the first month or two. That is a guess on my part though.
If the software patch that Apple puts out doesn't truly fix the problem, then a replacement phone from the Apple store would be a brand new phone. I personally don't see the issue with getting replacements from the Genius bar. You won't know the difference even if it was brand new or a true refurbished phone.

Apple refurbs are good. Often very good. I know with the iPad 3 I held out on light-bleed issues until I could replace WITH a refurb.
