Are you talking about general OS/task speed or specific things being faster?

I still get that sense of "this is so much faster than any of my Macs" when using my PC. Of course, many of the doubters will say, ah, yes, but you are using a custom PC with 32GB RAM, RTX 3060 and so on vs a 16GB Mac with weaker GPU. But my Studio has the M2 Max with 12-core CPU, 30-core GPU, 32GB RAM and still very obviously (to me) slower than my PC running Windows 11.

As I have said before, MacOS is not slow; it is just noticeably slower than my PC. Anyone who uses a Mac really isn't missing anything, but some need to stop insisting that it can't be true.
I think a lot of that is due to animations on the Mac side, which can be disabled. I personally don't really notice a difference on either OS speed-wise.

Everything in general, includes OS response times, app opening times, and so on. Only as I switch between a Mac and PC regularly I notice it.

Yep. A member was slamming Libre Office for not handling things but he admitted he hasn’t touch it in 7 or 8 years
To be fair, I have seen Windows people do this with Macs. Talk about how slow and hot they are, so I inquire further and they are talking pre M1.

Windows feels snappy, mac feels smooth. Thats the easiest way i can describe it. My m2 air is plenty fast and very smooth, but my gaming pc is very snappy. I also sold my ipad pro and ordered a Lenovo Legion go, should be here in a few days hopefully. Crazy i actually have money left over after selling my ipad and buying a handheld gaming machine lol

I’m lucky I’m using a Mac for windows and running windows natively. So it’s easy to see how well it runs or doesn’t. No virtual desktop software getting in the way - so it’s a valid comparison.

It’s good. But also the quality of the Mac Pro workstation hardware helps with the stability.

One difference- in windows my NVME drives don’t continuously drop out like they do in Sonoma (a bug in sonoma).

I did an experiment with putting windows 10 pro on my 6 core 5,1 Mac Pro (on a separate SSD, just a regular SATA one, not NVME) and that was also pretty quick, at least as fast as MacOS Monterey 12.7.5 on that machine.

Although the install process was painful because of the special needs of those older Macs.

Update time.

I think I’ve reached the utopia setup. Many have suggested it over the years, but I’ve resisted. I love my Mac setup for work and personal computing, but it lacks in 1 area. Gaming.

So I’ve done the unthinkable and I’m building another gaming PC. However, this will live on a new desk and be purely for gaming. The Mac setup will stay as is.

I have finally reached the PC and Mac promise land.

There is also a possible solution for that missing area.
and this is largely due to game sales environments (like Steam). They should make their own game engine that works on all common operating systems. and games would be developed only for these game engines. (it has one risk, hackers can inject malicious code into it)

A situation would arise, What is available on Steam, it will also start, regardless of the operating system on the gamer's computer.

But I don't like the current situation either. Because I can't start some games that I have in my steam library.

I have literally done the same thing. Mac for everything but gaming. Have an Acer Predator Helios Neo 16 RTX 4060 for gaming.

It really is the best combination.

I have Windows back on my desktop. I have an M1 Max Studio, iMac Pro and i7-10700 desktops on my desk with 5 monitors. I was running with four but I did some testing and one program I run has the following stats for load time:

15 seconds i7-10700 Windows
20 seconds iMac Pro
25 seconds M1 Max Studio

The program uses 850 MB of RAM on Windows.
It uses 5 GB of RAM on the iMac Pro.
It uses 8 GB of RAM on the M1 Max Studio.

I have gone back and forth on Windows on the desktop before. But the program is more responsive on Windows

I installed Windows 10 virtual machines on the Windows desktop and it just runs rings around the two Macs with another program I run.

The i7-10700 performs similarly to the iMac Pro while the M1 Max Studio runs about 50% faster than the Windows system. But WINE and Rosetta 2 impose significant processing and RAM requirements on the Studio so running Windows 10, even on an older and slower processor means much better performance. I do not see the software vendor creating native macOS kits anytime soon. This has been an issue for the past twenty years with this vendor and they have devoted most of their efforts to mobile devices.

Here’s the parts list. Panda colour scheme.

I like everything there but a bit shocked at the price of the GPU. I have a 1050 Ti right now and I have a GTX 1660 Ti on my desk that I plan to try once I find the power cables. I was thinking of a 4060 for better power-efficiency but it's strictly not needed unless I turn it into a gaming machine.

Been doing that for the past year MacBook Air and my Rtx 4080 gaming desktop. Best of both worlds
