You know a company has good marketing when they have people believing that it's not about products/profits, it's about "experience and revolutions!". It's always sad to see people fall for it and start defending Apple as if it was their very own lives that are put into question when you point out flaws in Apple's products or policies.

This kind of annoys me, but it would annoy me with any company.

But don't you hate that Samsung is a nameless, faceless behemoth unlike Apple which will give you a physical store to go into with Geniuses?

You could really spin this either way. The geniuses aren't always very helpful. In my own experience they give you a blank look and tell you it'll cost this amount and however many days to take it in. Buying procare for the one day turnaround doesn't even guarantee it. Regarding the word "faceless", Apple put themselves in direct competition with their third party brick and mortar retailers, yet you're commending this. It's not like you can't walk into a store and buy something from Samsung. Typically I've purchased Macs from the third party stores. Either I save a little bit or gain access to competent service staff if something goes wrong. There are two near me where I can talk to the repair guys directly in person rather than a hit or miss genius.

I have a samsung galaxy note, while the screen is big and nice, i hate it because it has issue. Search google for black clipping galaxy note. How can a big company like samsung release a high end mobile phone with an issue like that. Believe me it's not just me. All 3 galaxy notes that my friends got have that issue. And on the forum, there is no one who doesn't have that issue.

I have a Samsung fridge and am looking at Samsung TVs. I have a samsung monitor.

I don't have so much against SAMSUNG, just android. I don't happen to like the galaxy S because I think it feels cheap (in addition to not liking the OS). And I'd think that whether it had a google badge on it, a microsoft badge, a samsung badge, or an apple badge.

To hate a company due to being unhappy with their products you have bought off them is one thing. To hate a company because they were accused of copying off another is just... inane.

I don't hate Samsung. Their TV has worked fine in my household. Have they copied Apple? A bit maybe for some of their product lines. Do I care? Nope, and I don't understand anyone who takes Samsung taking inspiration from Apple as a personal insult.

I usually don't have the emotional energy to waste on hating a company due to being unhappy with products I bought off them. I usually just scratch it as a learning experience and do more research or avoid them the next time I need something.

I have been unhappy with some Apple products and it doesn't make me hate them or avoid them completely.

That is also inane. Hating or loving, emotions, towards corporate entities. Objectivity is key in consumerism, it's the best way to get the best value for your dollar.

No you're missing the point. This is about life & art. Open you mind to what Steve Jobs was preaching.

Steve wanted to sell you items. I seriously doubt he cared about your thoughts on life and art.

Steve was the Zen masters of technology. He opened our minds to the possibilities of leaving a dent in the universe.

True, but his objective was to sell you Apple gear. What does this have to do with hating a company?

Because Samsung is not into the Zen qualities of tech.

Care to elaborate? They make parts that Apple uses, so they think they're worth something.

Again, how does this relate to hating a company? That's a crazy idea to hate a legal entity.

Zen has to do with being the complete package for the customer.

Apple “wraps great ideas inside great ideas,” and the whole experience is linked as the present concept traces concentric circles from the core outward. Apple’s OS X operating system is the present waiting inside its sleek, beautiful hardware; its hardware is the present, artfully unveiled from inside the gorgeous box; the box is the present, waiting for your sticky little hands inside its museum-like Apple stores. And the bow tying it all together? Jobs’ dramatic keynote speeches, where the Christmas morning fervor is fanned on a grand stage by one of the business world’s most capable hype men.

Nobody else comes close.

@belvdr : You do realise you're the only serious person in your little exchange there right... you know what they say about what's under the bridge.

Yes, I know. It's my lunch hour and he's entertaining. With a little logic, you can make him dance around in circles. :)

I guess smoledman hates the grocery store and gas station too, since they don't offer a complete package. The landscaper sucks too, because he cannot remodel my house when he does the shrubs.

We're not talking about services that can't be fully vertically integrated like computers and smartphones. Stick to the subject, ok?

What about companies like GoDaddy, with their sexist advertising (for domain names of all things) and support for SOPA?

Yes, they eventually backpedaled on the SOPA support due to public backlash, but by that point they'd made their true feelings clear and staunchly defended them. They were the only tech company to support SOPA.

I do think Apple steals to, the Dock menu is a complete ripoff of the Windows Quick Launch bar.
No, the Dock was part of NeXTStep 1.0, which was released September 18, 1989. Quick Launch wasn't added to Windows until, what, 1995? NeXT was founded by Steve Jobs after he'd been forced out of Apple, and Apple acquired NeXT December 20, 1996. NeXTStep ultimately became Mac OS X.

NeXT products were very expensive, but it's amazing what their OS had even in 1992: http://youtube.com/watch?v=j02b8Fuz73A

None of this is to say that Apple doesn't copy. They most certainly do.

What about it ? No need to expand emotions towards GoDaddy, just don't get their services if you don't agree with their policies. If their policies are harmful to an industry, denounce them objectively and make a case for why you think going forward with their way would be counter productive.

Again, going into "hate" or "love" over corporate entities is just a big waste of emotional energy.

The SOPA and PIPA legislation would have pretty much destroyed the Internet as we know it (especially user-generated content), and I (along with numerous others) have denounced it objectively in the past. To rehash that now would be beating a dead horse. That being said, today my fellow Texans get to vote SOPA author Lamar Smith out of office.

I don't get "emotional" about GoDaddy, but I have never and will never buy from them. I will recommend against them when asked, and I stopped listening to the Linux Action Show because they continued to be sponsored by GoDaddy.

Agreed. Steve Jobs was always ahead of the curve. Microsoft has always been in "let's fire up the copiers gents!" mode.

I know what SOPA is and why we should all oppose it. Doesn't change what I said, there's no need to get emotional.

Then why did you reply to my comment hinting that GoDaddy might be worthy of "hate" ? Again, they are not. They're a corporate entity.

They are a group of people. I am mad at those people for working in technology yet supporting legislation which threatened the Internet. Disappointment and disgust are better words than hate.

I don't run around like this:
steamed.gif

and I don't think every GoDaddy employee was necessarily pro-SOPA, but GoDaddy deserves opposition and negative word of mouth for what they did. Their sexist ads don't help.
