Out of curiosity...

As far as I know, Apple does not manufacturer its iMacs in the US. If they ship from US to US and Canada, do they originate in China? It almost sounds that way...

i live in canada and mine shipped from china!!!!!!!!!

I am only going by the information the customer service person at :apple: provided me with, which was not much....

well i thought u asked where they were being shipped from... maybe it does go from china to the us to canada... im not sure about that part all i know is that mine at one point was sitting in china waiting to be shipped to me... thats what apple said anyways lol... who really knows... do we really even care? all i care is that it gets here one day! preferably sooner then later lol :D

I ordered mine March 17th, shipping has not changed, still April 21st and delivery is April 23rd. I also still have not had my credit card charged.

I have that same thing, the money is shown in my online banking, but not available for use, maybe to make refunds easier?

Order Date: Apr 6, 2009
Delivers: 24/04/2009 - 30/04/2009
To Sydney, Australia

I'm thinking these dates are a better deal than other people have got, but theres always the chance they are totally bloody false.

I've ordered a:
2.93GHZ INTEL CORE 2 DUO
4GB 1066MHZ DDR3 SDRAM-2X2GB
ATI RADEON HD 4850 512MB
640GB SERIAL ATA DRIVE
A PROPER LONG FRAKKEN KEYBOARD

What kind of gumby would pay hundreds more for the 3.06 when there is almost no difference in the performance :p

in a game, it can mean an FPS increase of 10-20, according to mac gaming benchmarks posted two days ago, http://www.macworld.com/article/131185/2009/04/2009_gaming_benchmarks.html

I tell you what slick, there are lots of us out there wanting the very best and top of the line and not having to worry about upgrading for a while. That is why we bought the 3.06 & HD4850 with a 1 TB HD to boot and not just a measly 640 GB HD and 2.93 GHz. Oh and one more thing, We just love to spend our Money On Macs!!! :p

The kind of gumby who wants to future-proof his purchase for an extra year, perhaps? I cannot replace this machine until 2015, so $180 is a paltry amount to pay to keep it going.

2015?? Y?? This is gonna be a crappy computer by that year lol I feel bad for u...

I still use a PIII for some file sharing and stuff.

It'll be useful if he wants it to be. :D

I can totally understand and appreciate people wanting to get the 3.06 over the 2.93 for future proofing and whatnot.

However, one can't just say that the extra 130MHz gives you 10-20 more FPS in games. Keep in mind that the 2.93GHz models in those benchmark tests use the not-so-great-for-high-end-gaming GT120 cards while the 3.06GHz models have the somewhat better GT130 cards.

Not that fair a comparison, those benchmarks are comparing the standard configs of the three processor flavours which have totally different gfx cards:

24-inch: 2.66GHz - NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics - av. fps 21
24-inch: 2.93GHz - NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 with 256MB memory - av. fps 42
24-inch: 3.06GHz - NVIDIA GeForce GT 130 with 512MB memory - av. fps 58

"The new iMacs ship with one of three different stock graphics cards, with a BTO graphics card also available. Unfortunately, we were unable to test the iMac with the BTO card."

I'm sure the processor does slightly help but the reason the top line spec machine wins out is because it has a far better gfx card with twice the memory.

Having said that...I see nothing wrong with maxing out the iMac.

I am a gumby and agree with the other gumbies here.
we are the gumbies and we get what we want:D

those specs show that the gt130 is much better than the gt120, the processor would have little influence.

i was looking at the macworld speed tests between the 3.06 and the 2.93 and they are pretty unnoticable. then again, it could just be that little bit of speed which help you hang onto it a big longer

and the whole "very best top of the line" argument might not hold much ground if the 3.06 is the same E8335 core 2 duo then it really is 130mhz difference :p

in any case.... we're all in the same boat.... uuurgh.. i want my imac!!! NOW!!!

A 100mhz difference in CPU will result in virtually zero difference in gaming performance if the graphics card is the same. Maybe if the FSB speed of the 3.06 was faster, or it had more cache it might be quicker, but neither is the case.

The good news is only another couple of weeks and we will know exactly whether an extra $200 bought an extra 1 or 2 fps in Crysis.

Well the only way we would get Snow Leopard for free is if it is released within 90 days of getting your iMac. For example if Snow Leopard is released at the end of Sept. 2009 Then we would miss the boat. We would not get it free. Apple support told me if it was released in June or July that there is a possibility that we could get a free upgrade on the software.
