Ordered: March 29

Ships: May 4

Absolutely no change in the "Not yet Shipped" Part. I'm not worried, I'm just hoping Apple will give accurate shipping dates to everyone by the end of the week.

When I talked with Customer Service from Apple, they told me that by Friday April 10th or Monday April 13th we should start seeing correct shipping dates moved up. But we will have to see if that comes true.

Estimated Shipping: 06 May, 2009
Estimated Delivery: 12 May, 2009

would I be better cancelling and re-ordering as the UK site now is updated and states "Ships: 7-10 business days" for the same product

Not at all. It would put you even more behind. Apple has told me that they will not place any new orders ahead of the pending orders already placed. Even though it states 7-10 business days. They did also say that by Friday April 10th or on April 13 Monday they should update your shipping dates to be more accurate to what they will be. Time will tell.

But we should start seeing things move rather fast starting next week.

I love Apple stuff. My new iMac will nicely compliment my new MacBook Pro 15". But I am not made out of money, and I can find a lot better things to do with $300.

That said, if people want to spend the cash, and have it to spend, and find value in it all, then more power to them.

Thats fine for you. To each their own. But I will tell you this, you will be upgrading before I do. Personally I like to have the best I can get so I don't have to upgrade so soon. Computers go out of date extremely fast these days. And it is best to try to stay ahead of the game the best you can. For me it is worth the cost to have the fastest processor, the best video, and the largest hard drive. But that is me. You can make your own decision.

Now I just hate you:cool:

Well the only way we would get Snow Leopard for free is if it is released within 90 days of getting your iMac. For example if Snow Leopard is released at the end of Sept. 2009 Then we would miss the boat. We would not get it free. Apple support told me if it was released in June or July that there is a possibility that we could get a free upgrade on the software.

I don't know if this will shed any light on release of snow leopard but the self help books on the os are due for release July.

Do you know when the Self Help Books were released for Leopard when it was released on Sept 30th? If one was to compare that then we may have a closer idea of when it could be released.

December 2007 is the date on Amazon

Interesting, so it was released after the software was released. I always thought that these self help authors got a advanced copy so they can start on their book. So based upon that fact, Snow Leopard could be released in late May or June if we are lucky which could mean, (no promises) we might get a free upgrade to the new O/S. At least that is what customer service said to me in a phone I made to them.

I am sorry, but 2.93 vs. 3.06 is not enough of a gap to make you notably more future-proof. For the tasks I am going to use my computer for, the difference would be undetectable.

If you see value in it, cool. I do not question the value you find in your decision. But your objective certainty about the difference and end result are misplaced. You simply do not have enough data about me, my computer uses, or my upgrade trend to make that statement.

.13GHz is not going to make anything I do go perceptibly faster, and I already have two 1TB drives to hook up to my iMac when it arrives (one USB, one Time Capsule). I bought the graphics card upgrade (which is why I am watching this thread). I think I am going to be just fine. :)

There you go then - maybe the os will come faster than the machines to run it!
We shall see - though waiting with baited breath might be a bit injurious considering all the breath holding already going on!

BUT!

Apple reposted the purchase price to my bank account!

Well said. I understand what you are saying, and like I said before it is a matter of personal preference. To each their own. You are right I did not know what you are using your Mac for. All I know what I will be using it for and I would like the best I can get. But that is just me. Sorry if I offended you.

You didn't offend me at all, no worries. It just seemed very strongly worded.

Now, don't get me wrong, I like the best I can get, too. I recently had the potential for a fairly major windfall (which has mostly fallen through). During that time, I priced out a Mac Pro, top end with all the bells and whistles. And, if that windfall had come to fruition, I would have likely pulled the trigger. It would have been a sweet setup! Total overkill, but a fun machine to play around with.

My current primary machine is a 2.8GHz MacBook Pro, and so far the only thing that isn't up to snuff for my purposes is the graphics card for playing WoW (and likely Diablo III when it comes out). And really, it comes really close. I play WoW at 1920 x 1000 on LED Cinema Display and it actually plays rather well. I just want to smooth it out a bit, which is why I opted for the best graphics I can get.

Now, if the memory upgrade to 4GB to 6GB or 8GB was the same price as the processor upgrade, I would be all over it! I'd really like to have more memory.

To bring this back on topic, I ordered my iMac w/4850 from an independent reseller. They said they would contact me when they have news on shipping, but perhaps I should call them and see if they know anything yet.

Great! Thats what I was hoping for. Thats some good news. Thanks WizardHunt. Now lets just hope that its tomorrow when they start posting the correct shipping dates. :)

I ordered my above BTO on March 6, 2009. The original authorization came out then. But my bank shows me that Apple just removed the money again today. Does that mean that my shipping date could change to an earlier ship date? I am in the US.
