i just got the email that my order has been shipped and the tracking # from fedex shows that its been picked up in CA..

expected delivery date 4/15 :D

i ordered it on 3/4 btw

IT'S HERE!

and omfg, it is HUGE!... 24 inch compared to my 15 inch powerbook g4 that I'v ebeen using the past 4.5 years!!

I mentioned this before. They are assembling the iMac with the 4850 in CA not China.

Assembly and manufacturing are very distinct as I bet all the parts being assembled come from foreign countries.

I wonder if the troubles in Thailand are having any impact on shipments? Generally electronics from Asia would leave for the US either through Shanghai, Taipei, or Narita. If anything originates in Thailand it could have an impact on things being rerouted.

So according to TNT's tracker my iMac is "Out For Delivery" So it should be here in hours.:D

I really wish :apple: had an option to have your Mac ship with bootcamp setup. I'm going to spend hours setting up my Mac before I get to bask in it's unicorn tear washed glory.:(

I called :apple: (again) about my iMac. "Shanna" assured me that there is no way :apple: would ship out an order ahead of someone that ordered the 4850 earlier. Even though the site show 3-5 days, they will not be getting it that quickly.

While on the phone with her, I ordered a 2.0/4GB/320 Mini. She added it to my iMac order, gave me free overnight shipping on that too + knocked off another $150 from the price of the iMac! My Mini will arrive this week!

Wow! These are my first :apple:'s and I am liking :apple: a whole lot better than Dell already!

Is there anyone here from the Netherlands that has some shipping info? I'm ordering my 3,06 HD 4850 next week and I'm wondering how long it will take.

Shipping is as fast to the Netherlands as it is everywhere else in the world. Ordered mine (2.93 w 4850) one week after introduction, and so far I've heard nothing.

My reseller told me I could expect it to arrive this week. So, 5-10 businessdays sounds about right.. :) Will post some pics when it's here.. :)

Larrymarshall2.....do you know if and when apple preauthorized the charge for your computer?

No charges have ever been made to my card. Nothing has occurred since I ordered the mac.

Apple called me and left a voicemail saying, "just wanted to let you know that it it's a 4-6 week wait for your BTO iMac..." I don't understand why they called NOW to tell me that...

I called apple back--they said they don't know how or why others are getting their macs before me when I ordered so long ago.

The video card information is in the Graphics/Displays section rather than the PCI Cards section.

On my 3.06GHz 4850 system, the PCI Cards section of the System Profiler says "This computer does not appear to have any PCI cards installed."

^^ Well it shouldn't.

What do you mean it shouldn't?
Are you saying graphic card info shouldn't be in Graphics/Displays section,
and it should be in PCI section?

There's a difference between PCI and PCI-E.
PCI-E is normally for graphic cards not PCI, at least not any more.

That's what I meant...there shouldn't be anything in the PCI card section on an iMac, let alone, most computers in general nowadays. Also note the ^^ which means my reply was to the post two above mine.

So you are saying that you might not get your Mac on the April 20th scheduled date for shipping? That they contacted you to tell you that there is another 4-6 week delay? If that is so, i would be very angry if I were you.

Finally!!!

So after reading these depressing posts about how people who ordered their ATI iMacs after March 4 are getting their shipment notifications I decided I had to make the call. I called Apple and conveyed my worries and disappointment in this, and they upgraded my shipping to 24 hour shipping. A few hours later I received my shipment notification. All I have to say is, "YEA!!!!!!!"

...and in fact I posted a photo of the Graphics/Displays setting last Friday. Another user had asked for a posting of what the PCI Cards section displayed, so I obliged and posted what I found.

I wanted to know which driver mobility 4850 uses, trick worked for macpro, without needing to make ioreg dump, seems it doesnt work with imacs

do you mind to pm me some dump ?

ioreg -l -w0 -p IODeviceTree | grep device-properties > dump.txt

this will not have any your personal info.

actually the PCI section includes PCI-E. It makes sense. Check a Mac Pro's PCI cards section and you'll find video card info. The iMac doesn't have it because the video isn't on a card.

There is absolutely nothing in common between PCI and PCI-E. Do not confuse people by saying that one is found in the other.

While PCI-E can appear to software as a PCI device in reality the two buses are as similar as humans and rocks on the beach.

The fact that system profiler shows PCI-E cards under a PCI category only means that system profiler is seeing them all as PCI expansion devices in software only.

They are not the same buses.
