I just figured this out myself. Select both of the files together and then right click > Extract. it will extract into one .ipsw file and then you are good to go. my phone is currently restoring to the firmware now.

Sweet. Thanks. Now if only my PC didn't stop responding during the part 2 download. Now I have to wait 12 minutes before trying to download again via Rapidshare since I've "reached my download limit".

Everything appears to have worked well. It says 3.1.2 and Cydia is loaded on there. Thanks OP! I'm now loading my 23gb of crap back on there before I start downloading my JB apps again.

I just downloaded file 1 of the links on rapidshare and that POS wont let me download the second and says ive exceeded my free limit already. Whats up with that?

Nothing to do with the person hosting the file.
There's a workaround for download limits that I use. Download the first file, then reboot your modem and computer and download the second file. By doing this, you give yourself a different IP address.
OK, downloaded both and it put them in seperate winrar windows, ...i highlighted them in each and extracted. It is in one folder now on my desktop and says 238 MB for a 2G. Sound about right?
The other file using zshare was 239 MB.
So next step is to use shift key and click restore in iTunes and let er rip? Dont have to hold down any buttons?

it won't work if its the wrong size but it sounds about right. Its not really compressed just rar to break it up. I beleive the files are self extracting so if they are in the same folder and you double click on the first one it will automatically extract both and join them.
I use jzip, its free and very easy to use

I did the ireb thing. I attached my iphone 3G 3.01 to iTunes. I cancelled the request to update via Apple. I did the shift restore thing, and used a custom ipsw from a reliable source. Then I restored from a backup that was done a few minutes before the update/restore. I now have 3.2.1 and still have the tethering thing, but no Cydia. I also used pkgbackup. Help, please. How do I get Cydia back and restore my packages with pkgbackup?

So these custom .IPSW's are for people who what to upgrade to 3.1.2 and keep the baseband of 3.0?

Yea, it did keep the 3.01 baseband tethering, but I have no Cydia and the apps that go with it now. I'm restoring from this morning's backup now. We'll see what happens.
OK, did this today on my 2G and everything went fine. Remained unlocked, cydia works, etc, etc .
The only problem i have come across is the app in Cydia (ActivateMMS2G) that allows me to have MMS is apparently gone. It used to be in http://cydia.alpden.com but cydia says it cant find it.
