So the plot thickens, friend of mine in NYC just sent me this asking if the new phone was out. She doesn't really follow tech very closely, but figured I'd share this here since y'all are already talking about whatever this is supposed to be.

It's not really different than that one train station one, but it's something. Has a pic of this already been posted? I haven't read the whole thread, just jumped in when I saw earlier. Ngl, I'm nerding out a little haha
I saw this billboard else where in nyc yesterday (near Rockefeller). It’s def not an iPhone, this isn’t apple related.

So if more billboards are going up — that people have seen in person — something legit is definitely coming. This is cool.

It seems the marketing has evolved since the original documents too so maybe the documents were indeed from an earlier stage.

Interesting. If this is indeed real, I'm fairly sure it's not an iPhone. I think it's another company trying to piggyback on the upcoming iPhone release, but it also makes no sense since they seemingly haven't pushed this with tech blogs or anything.

That said, all of this is pretty easy to fake, so I really don't know what to make of this anymore.

It's real. @primarycolors be proud, you leaked it first!

Even it's not Apple, we can all be hyped that it really does mean something. I feel validated lol.

I still think it's Apple tbh. Every other company would put their branding on it – otherwise the product reveal would go pretty unnoticed.

My theory: as soon as the Apple keynote is revealed, all the billboards are going to be changed and add the words 'iPhone R' and the Apple logo.

This isn’t apple. Time to put the kool aid down…

None of these photos show any details on the case itself. No buttons, no gaps between the metal for the antenna, no sim card... which would be understandable for a marketing mockup, but it looks too simple for an iPhone that's supposed to be out this month. Reminds me of when "concept artists" will come up with fake images without ever thinking of how the device is actually meant to be built or used.

Perhaps a “right to repair” thing, like greenpeace for phones LOL

Well the US iPhone doesn't have a sim anymore, right? I do agree the antenna would need to be moved.

If it was Apple, it would ABSOLUTELY have a white logo on it.
Not necessarily. Apple is one of those companies that doesn’t even need their logo to attribute an ad to them. I can see a scenario in which (before an official announcement) they are stirring the waters and generating some talk while being cryptic. Seems pretty Apple-esque to me.

Agreed. Also the "Innovation. That's R." is exactly like "Privacy. That's iPhone."
Apple definitely writes this way.
(But so could a copycat. Just seems unlikely without any branding at all.)

More proof this is completely real. Just checked EarthCam Live of Times Square. There's the ad.

Whoever is marketing this has a huge marketing budget. (Hint: biggest company in the world?)

You don't spend that much money just to be a copycat company.
Also, notice something cool? Every ad we've seen is on a digital board. I think it's very likely the Apple logo and product name will appear as soon the Apple event announces it. It would be really effective.

How so? Outside of a few tech enthusiasts on an Apple rumours site, no one seems to be paying attention to this. It's not an effective reveal if no one notices it until after it's over. That just means they shouldn't have run the teaser ads in the first place.
On the flip side, if it’s not Apple, how effective was this company that didn’t even bother to put a name or logo?

Still not very effective. There's almost no one paying attention regardless of who put these out.

Nice catch! I was checking out this web cam earlier today too, but never did see it. It seems to be displaying pretty frequently now...almost every minute. Whoever is behind this ad campaign seems to be ramping it up and displaying it in more places.

Also, what about the one a few posts ago. It says "Innovation", which caught my eye. I could see Apple saying that...or is it a jab at Apple? (Speaking of which, it's hard to believe it was 10 years ago when Schiller said "Can't innovate anymore, my ass!" when he revealed the new Mac Pro.)

Exactly, so it makes more sense that Apple is behind this. They don’t actually need the advertisement. Those that do see it will think “Apple” though. It might even be a case of consumers going “Oohh they were telling us about this new phone for a week and we missed it! How cool! Apple finally surprised us.”

Yeah that's actually what I was thinking, they can do buzz without being specific. Little bit of mindshare for more casual consumers, saying virtually nothing and getting people talking etc. It's worked like a charm before, that's why I think it's them. If it's someone else it would be weird not to say who you are, or what you're doing.

Sure, or it's a different company that just fumbled the rollout and thought this would draw a lot more attention and generate more hype than it has. Either way, it doesn't seem to me like it's really landing.

What’s REALLY Apple-esque? That we have many years of actual marketing material to go by?

That Apple ALWAYS puts their logos on their marketing. All of it.
