Well, I guess he makes a suitably mean Heathcliffe?

I can't get the book to work - the timesfree link still takes me to Lemony Snickett. Will try again later...

The Volvo-sponsored songs, Volumes 1, 2, and 3, are no longer free in the U.S. store. Apparently, new volumes are made available free in the U.S. only when they are new, and not indefinitely as it previously appeared.

All 4 volumes are "currently not available in the US store"...maybe they cut it all together...isn't there supposed to be a new volume (for a new month)?

The status has changed in just the last hours. So they are up to something, and I think it's to keep us foreigners away from the previous Volvo freebies. However, the latest volume songs are still free if you click the song links (not the Volvo link).

Week 4 of The Times freebies

Up and at 'em early this morning:

http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/section/0,,23269,00.html

Info:

This week we bring you music from:

1) Dogs: Selfish Ways (Acoustic version)
Dogs excise the rough-hewn attitude and raging guitars from their third single, Selfish Ways.

2) Trail of Dead: The Best (Live)
Trail of dead remain furious yet thoughtful conveyors of rock on this version of The Best, recorded at this year's Lollapalooza Festival.

3) Archive: Get Out
The French love 'em, but don't hold that against them. Get Out finds the British electro-rock trio in ambitious panoramic form.

4) Beulah: Leaving Home
With a little song writing help from Gary Barlow, Leaving Home sees Beulah rock like only girls from the Peak District can.

5) Ladytron: Sugar (Jagz Kooner remix)
Another analogue pop gem from the Liverpool-based four-piece, Sugar proves there's more to Ladytron than asymmetric haircuts.

Gadjo
So Many Times, This sun-drenched summer anthem heralds the return of dance label Manifesto

Kubb
Alcatraz, The lead singer was discovered by Dido's brother Rollo, singing Happy Birthday in a restaurant

good for the first person who reads this:

iTMS code: Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx good for the US store only.... does me no good in Canada

Closed

I followed another thread and signed up for the Wells Fargo account information for the free tune on iTMS, only to find out that it doesn't work from Canada.

I might have another 3 free tunes from another offer if I find out that they're only good in the US too.

I wouldn't mind those codes! :D

Free NIN songs

Glad I got all the Volvo songs while I could! I liked them better in general than the M-B ones. I'll be sure to grab the next set promptly.

And I don't think this has been mentioned in this thread: free songs from Nine Inch Nails. Two of them from their recent album so far, I think: The Hand That Feeds, and Only (a remix? haven't gotten that one yet).

http://www.nin.com/access/only/garageband/register.asp
(Free registration, and some legalese to agree to.)

Of course they're for GarageBand (GB 2 needed?), not iTunes exactly... but even if you don't intend to play in GB (which is fun!), GB exports to iTunes with one click. Uncompressed AIFF, but you can convert to AAC in iTunes with another click if you wish to save space.

For non-Mac iTunes users, I think the GB mixes are available in other formats as well--if you have the required apps.

Wow, anyone notice that the Michael Tolcher album shot up to #63? And it's not new according to iTunes. Sure pays to be the first free artist after a major upgrade, a lot of people must have liked the song. :)

Two semi-interesting facts this week:

The Song of the Week is Rock, just as it was last week, while the Discovery Download is Jazz, just as it was last week.

This is the first time I've seen a Discovery Download with no text describing the song. Perhaps they will add it later.

Even more disturbing is the number of iTMS images popping up with Rosewood in them. Slowly but surely it's becoming the Comic Sans of the 21st century.

Am I missing it, or did they drop the free songs listing on the iTMS main page?
They most certainly did remove it. I wonder why.

The Single of the Week can still be found on the home page and (for this week) on the Rock page, but I don't see a way for visitors to the store to find the Discovery Download. I'm glad I got this week's link from the home page last night, but what does Apple have in mind if there are no links to "discover"?

Perhaps this is a sign that the free iTunes program is nearing the end. Or simply another glitch in the program.

M-B Missed Tape

It appears I slept thru the spring-summer and missed the Mercedes-Benz Mixed Tape No. 7. Does anyone know if there's a link where it might yet be downloaded? It's the only one of the 8 that I'm missing.

It looks like a mistake, there were duplicate banners on the top of the jazz section yesterday. It's fixed today.

Edit: Oh, and they fixed the description too.
