They most certainly did remove it. I wonder why.

Perhaps this is a sign that the free iTunes program is nearing the end. Or simply another glitch in the program.

It's back. Guess it was just a glitch/oversight.

I've downloaded a few but most of them are strange music I don't have the taste for.

All 4 volumes are "currently not available in the US store"...maybe they cut it all together...isn't there supposed to be a new volume (for a new month)?

All five Volvo samplers are back and free (well, the first four tracks of each). I just downloaded 1-3.

Sort of OT but related to free iTunes songs...

If you're a college student or accompanying one, walk through those vendor areas during orientation weeks!!!

I went to my bf's orientation at UC Santa Cruz and we both got a nice credit cardy feeing card entitling both of us to a free iTunes song each. :D

Aren't there usually two free new iTunes per week. All I am seeing now is the single of the week. no discovery download???
They didn't list a Discovery Download on the iTMS front page, so it was harder to find. I did find it, however, and now have it in the list, but so far it's not free, so don't download it yet.

In my experience, you can put it in your shopping cart (if you aren't using one-click purchasing) while it is 99 cents and it will change to "Free" in your shopping cart when it turns free in the store. So putting it in your cart can be done anytime, but buying it has to wait until they get their act together and set the price to match its Discovery Download status.

:( For some reason, I can't get the iTunes New Music Sampler (Universal Motown edition)!

I click the link> Get Free songs> Add Album> it's now in my shopping cart but when I go to try to buy a window pops up saying, "Some itmes in your shopping cart are no longer available. The unavailable items have been removed from your shopping cart. Please review your shopping cart and click Buy Now."

Then a second pop says, "We could not complete your Music Store request. The server was not found. there was an error in the Music Store. Please try again later.

Hmm. It worked for me, but I got it a while ago. I assume you got the Atlantic/Lava Edition ok? Try these links:

iTunes New Music Sampler (Atlantic/Lava Edition)

iTunes New Music Sampler (Universal Motown Edition)

I just added &originStoreFront=143441 to the end of the URL for the US music store. I don't know if it'll help.

I found this disclaimer at the bottom of the ITMS Link Maker page:

Emphasis mine. I guess they might have de-activated the Universal Sampler since it's older. If they de-activated it, I wonder why they still keep that page up?

Sigh... it really does seem like they have deactivated it, and you're right, it's silly to lead poor fools like me on in this way. :p Thanks for trying anyway, capiendo.

In the lists at the beginning of this thread, I've done my best to mark in bold the tunes that are still available. Please let me know whenever I'm wrong (for those using the U.S. iTunes Music Store). This is a group effort and I rely on posts or Private Messages for much of my information.

How have you gathered your information, capiendo?

Yes. You are in China, correct? Try this link:

http://anonymouse.org/cgi-bin/anon-www.cgi/http://beingted.blogspot.com

If that does not work, this site has a good list of other web based proxies.

Or maybe you are using Firefox and can not see the links? Select menu Tools > Options > Web Features and make sure "Load Images" is selected and "for the originating web site only" is unselected.

Notice that the tune [playlistId=79572105&s=143441&i=79572070]My Timekeeping Heart[/playlistId] is by artist Convoj.

Notice that the tune [playlistId=79572059&s=143441&i=79572033]Prez Rixon[/playlistId] is by artist Monotypes.

When the Volvo-sponsored album [playlistId=79945791]Nu : The Sounds of New Scandinavia, Vol. 5[/playlistId] was added to the iTunes Music Store two weeks ago, they had these two artists backwards!

They have since fixed these in the store but, if you had already downloaded them, the artist names may still be wrong in your Library (see image below). If so, control-click each one, select Get Info, and change the artist for My Timekeeping Heart to Convoj and the artist for Prez Rixon to artist Monotypes.

Yeah, that's weird how that happens sometimes. I've tried to download "supposedly free" songs that still showed as .99, and (at least with the Shopping Cart) it doesn't work--there's just a message about the item changing in your cart or something--BUT at least you don't have to pay :)

(And thanks for the Volvo Nu artist corrections.)

Got bad news about the iTunes New Music Samplers. I emailed Apple about people having trouble downloading the Samplers and I got a reply today. Seems like they expired back in March. Samplers go bye bye. Here's a copy of the email I got:

I was wondering if the iTunes New Music Samplers are still available. These are the links:

http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewCustomPage?name=pageIPodNewUserMusicSampler

http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewCustomPage?name=pageIPodNewUserMusicSampler2

I can add the albums to the iTunes shopping cart, but when I try to download them, I get an error message saying the items are no longer available. Other people have told me the same thing when they try to download them.

Thanks for you help,
Ted

Thanks for the detective work, capiendo. At least we know for sure now.
