I can confirm this. Using a MVC GTX 770 4 GB now nearly two years. No problems with OS X drivers and web drivers. It's a 6 Pin & 8 pin version connected with two 6 pin cables.

I think he's right for the 770, but not the "and below" part. The GTX750 is GM106/107 Maxwell and so would require the web drivers.

well there are no osx drivers yet for them so they will only work in windows, if you can stick to the dual 6 pin ones

Well that doesn't quite answer my question. Assuming for *poops* 'n giggles that drivers are written for them, How would you power it for a Classic Mac Pro?

Edited for potty-mouth language.... :O

well you get a power cable, plug it in to the main bored and in to the GPU times 2.
there cheep on amazon & ebay.
the cards will work fine in windows for games.

topics to look at
gtx1080/1070

gtx1060

ati rx 470 (looks like it's actually working in osx beta )

ps for giggles
if you want to have fun you can install 2 or 3 of the cards and power them all from an external power supply.

Has anyone observed if today's security update for El Cap updates the build number and breaks the web drivers?

I've been attempting to install this WebDriver package in a Mac Pro 1.1 (2006) but the package won't launch. (It's an El Capitan installation with the piker boot.efi hack). When I double-click the package it simply doesn't open- launches the installer app but then stops before it ever develops a user interface.

Has anyone seen this or recommend any tips ?

Thanks

Just checking to see if Apple has made a professional computer since 2013.
No? Just iToys and watches?
Ok.
Going back to sleep.

Ok I got it working - re-applied the 10.11.6 update using the offline installer and now the web drivers install and the GTX960 is working bootiful.

However after I used migration assistant the startup routine would no longer complete and crashed every time about 2 thirds of the way along the thermometer. Maybe migration assistant damaged the webdriver installation in some way. Don't know.

I'm now going to re-apply the 10.11.6 update again and see if it preserves my migrated user account.

I am totally new to this, so i have a few questions. I want to buy a 970 GTX card for my Mac Pro 5,1 Mid 2012 model. I have read that i have no boot screen then. What does that mean? That i can't select an USB drive in the future when i push ALT when shime sounds starts? But will it start my mac with no boot screen?

And is it necessary to flash the card? I am a little anxious about doing that lol. I have now a 5770 radeon card in it, but would like to upgrade for Battlefield 1 ;)

you will boot fine, you can still chose startup disk in system prefes or with bootchamp to boot to windows.
you need to install the nvidia drivers before you install your gtx 970 & make shore it's set to use the nvidia drivers and not the osx drivers.

then install your new card.

dont instal new security updates or osx updates till after there is a new nvidia driver or you will have no display

also always good to turn screen sharing on so if you need to you can remote in to your computer.

and you may want to keep your old card just in case

After the recent security update, I went to update the web driver and I'm getting a message that says "The installation failed. The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail." It's the weirdest thing. I've tried repairing permissions and even made a new administrator account and nothing works. Any suggestions?

Send it to MVC for flashing. Without Option Boot booting from Windows back to OS X is a PITA.

Asgorath, the GT520 works as well. It's what i'm using at the moment as a stop gap.
