Do you set "auto update OFF"?

Anyway, it automatically installed without require a restart? That's interesting.

The install was prompted with a notification alert. Believe you're allowed to ignore (postpone) once before it will auto-download and install. Ignored on Mac Pro, but did install on MacBook Pro (that runs NVIDIA Web Drivers).

Update installed without needing a restart. However, upon restart it defaults to the OS X Default Graphics Driver since the NVIDIA driver is not compatible at the moment.

Expect an NVIDIA driver release before Friday. Be careful until then if you rely on NVIDIA Web Driver for critical workflows. I know I'm not the only one that has to restart their Mac Pro 5,1 at least once throughout the day at times...

Can you clarify what issues push you to restart the Mac?

The only time I ever had to do this was when I had a GTX 1070FE in my Mac, using NVIDIA web driver, and I’d find that only a reboot would remove some of the quirky UI behaviour.

I ditched the 1070 and web driver and now use an RX 580 and I can tell you that I can go weeks without needing a restart.

My two cents...

apps that use Library Validation would only be allowed to load binaries signed by Apple, including the stock NVIDIA driver. The web driver is signed by NVIDIA and would thus not be allowed to load. High Sierra fixes this, as Apple will now validate the web driver when it is installed and allow it to be used in apps that use Library Validation, like iBooks, Little Snitch and the HS Window Server.

So does that mean the only way to use iBooks with a webdriver-requiring Nvidia card, is to upgrade to High Sierra, ie there's no way for it to work on Sierra?

No, I didn't realise that Apple would be pushing it out as an automatic update and didn't get home until late last night. The security update doesn't require a restart, but I'm sure if I were to restart my machine now I'd have no screen at all.

Just got to hold tight until the new web driver hits! With any luck nVidia will push today.

The updated driver was available through the NVIDIA driver manager preferences on one machine, not another. Does not appear on NVIDIA website through usual search quite yet.

Curiously, it seems not EVERY machine will have an updated OS build number. The latest web driver is NOT compatible with some updated machines... Wonder if Apple changed the way they're distributing as of this AM? You can confirm if the security update was installed: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208315

A machine that was updated yesterday has ANOTHER security update available today.

Getting this message on a machine that was updated yesterday, then needed to be updated again today. Note the .108 at the end.

On a Mac Pro 5,1 that was NOT updated yesterday, but was updated this morning, I am getting this error when trying to install the .108 pkg file.

Been experiencing an occasional lockup when utilizing CUDA rendering/processing in some Adobe applications (CC 2018). It's a hard lockup where the system basically freezes, becomes unresponsive, then needs to be hard shutdown to "fix". It's not an isolated incident and has happened several times in the past few weeks. Find performace is much better when shutting down at the end of the day and turning back on in the morning. Was not always this way, but until a Mac Pro 7,1 is available I need to keep this 5,1 kicking... or switch to something else.

It probably will because on its download page it says:
"When you install Security Update 2017-001 on your Mac, the build number of macOS will be 17B1002."

And when the build number changes, the Nvidia extension refuses to load as it's made for a specific build.

The build number now is 17B1003. This may be an issue to mess up the web driver.

Also, there are total 3 security updates on my Mac.

Yep - looks like we will have to wait for another set of drivers. Also, we could see 10.13.2 as soon as next week which will break them again.
Gotta love the web driver! Honestly, I am glad I dumped my 1070FE. I really wouldn't have the patience for this sort of thing.

I thought about dumping my flashed nVidia 980 for a AMD 580, but it would be more $$ for a card that is a lateral move or downgrade in most scenarios and I would lose the boot screens. Just doesn’t make sense at the moment to rock the boat.

I bet you could sell that flashed 980 to cover the costs of a new RX580.
As for losing the boot screen, its not as big a deal as it is with NVIDIA cards. Recovery mode is still usable with an RX580 as it uses the inbuilt macOS driver.
You also get DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 future proofing the card somewhat.

Well this is strange. I'm signed up for the Beta program, but can't use it because I have a GTX 1080. The Security Update never appeared at the App Store. Wouldn't have used it if it did. But, I downloaded it from here:

https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1942?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

I waited till this morning before installing it (waiting for the Web Driver). Installed fine, and is the first time I can remember installing an OS update without a restart. Then installed the Web Driver, installation went fine, but midway through I was informed that it was not compatible (OS update was (17B1002)). But Web Driver finished installing. restarted and on Apple Driver, choose Web Driver, restarted again, and all was fine.

Now what's strange, I went to the App Store, chose updates, and OS Beta 10.13.2, Bets 5 is now removed, and no updates are available?

Sounds like I am leaving WiFi turned off on my cMP for a few more days to avoid any stealthy auto-updates until all this dust settles...

^^^^In System Preferences > App Store there is a setting to allow App and OS Updates. Just leave it turned off.

I have all of that turned off...however the wording of the front-page story suggested that the update might install automatically regardless (perhaps because of the perceived seriousness of the security issue).
