I have all of that turned off...however the wording of the front-page story suggested that the update might install automatically regardless (perhaps because of the perceived seriousness of the security issue).

It did NOT auto install into my system. I did not install (17B1002) until this morning because of the Web Driver not being available until this morning.

Gotta love the web driver! Honestly, I am glad I dumped my 1070FE. I really wouldn't have the patience for this sort of thing.

It's a minor inconvenience, there are plenty of ways to work around this. For example, there are tools at InsanelyMac that will modify the version number that the driver matches against, so you can do things like just match against all 17B versions instead of a specific one like 17B1002.

To each his own, I guess. But we all knew, going in, that Nvidia GPUs are NOT quite P&P, but with an MVC flash, pretty darn close. I, for one, am content to experience this slight inconvenience to enjoy the benefits of an Nvidia card. I'm now on my third flashed Nvidia GPU, and quite happy with my 1080.

Installed (17B1003) a few hours later. Again NOTHING Auto Installed!

It auto installed on my Mac. I am not talking about what said by Apple, but what happened on my cMP.

Anyway, for other non flashed card user.

I can confirm that there is no need to use any screen sharing etc to perform the system update and installing new web driver.

My procedure is as follow.

1) For normal OS update, running "sudo softwareupdate -I -a" should able to update the OS WITHOUT reboot (same as the security update this time)

2) After update, the OS version should change WITHOUT reboot (you can confirm this in system report)

3) Install the new Nvidia web driver accordingly

4) The installer will show you the warning about OS version not compatible and fall back to Apple driver.

5) let the driver finish installation, do NOT click restart

6) Open terminal, and enter "sudo nvram nvda-drv=1"

7) Open web driver manager to confirmed web driver is selected.

8) Reboot

With the above procedure, the cMP will restart with web driver installed, selected, and display everything properly at the 1st reboot. No black screen, no need to use screen sharing (or using EFI non accelerated display to do anything).

N.B. The above procedure is used with BOTH SIP and Gatekeeper OFF, I am not sure what will happen if you have any of these function ON.

It's my very 1st OS update after switch to the green team (just a normal PC non flashed Pascal card). Surprisingly easy if do everything correctly. I don't even need any screen sharing / assist from other GPU. Just install the OS update, install the driver, select the web driver in terminal, and then reboot.

Yes, it require few more steps then just click a single button in Appstore. I am also surprised that the OS is automatically updated on my cMP even with the auto update function turned OFF (may be I should recycle this setting just in case Appstore is not displaying what it does). And I need to wait for the new web driver available. But the overall experience is not as bad as I imagine. Pretty straight forward. What I am now want to confirm is if the "sudo softwareupdate -I -a" command will work as expected on the major OS update.

Now i'm even more confused with what team to continue my cMP journey...:p

So I am now officially using a non flashed PC Nvidia Pascal GPU in my mac pro. I only installed it today so its very early days. However so far no issues. Ran a few benchmarks just for giggles like Heaven on extreme. No crashes, no odd glitches. No ghosting when moving windows that are open. If I have any issues I will say so.

However obviously no boot screen but for me that is not important.

Now this is ridiculous. What is the point? Any more crap with StarWars logo on it coming? We already have Jedi toothpaste and Starwars wet wipes. Can I have toilet paper to wipe my a$$ with Starwars ****?

Sorry about the rant, but marketing like this is beyond my understanding...

It's just a limited edition gimmicky marketing thing. Yeah it's dumb but it's not meant to be serious.

Had GTX 750 ti - didn't work nicely with HS at all.
Installed ATI 560 - and enjoying seamless work and no more web drivers.

What issue is it?

I am very new to this "Nvidia + web driver" group, but the transition is surprisingly smooth. And even the OS + web driver update is much more smoother than I expect.

could not get video out of Nvidia card though it worked flawlessly in Sierra.
Nvidia card became a big heavy burden. While ATI Radeon 560 non-flashed, out of shelf, just works in High Sierra.

What were you using to play the video? I'm using a Pascal card so a bit newer but I am having zero high Sierra/web driver compatibility issues. However I do like to know what issues others are having to maybe find out why.

Same here, AFAIK, Pascal card has more issue then Maxwell card with the web driver. But so far, my Pascal experience is super smooth.

I could not get video at all from the card (DVI and HDMI). It would endlessly reboot, lose video (black monitor issue). I was so dissapointed that removed it fully and put in ATI instead. Still initially had some issues with Radeon, but now is butter smooth. Hope to never deal with Nvidia again.

Man that's weird. I can definitely confirm that with Pascal I am not having that issue what so ever. In fact that's so odd I wonder if there was something wrong with your card.
