Ok got recovery to work. Enabled SIP and enabled gatekeeper. Nothing is showing in security. GT120 shows fine and gtx980 still shows as nvidia chip . Anything else to try?

Perform a PRAM reset with the GT120 still installed. The driver will automatically fall back to macOS driver.

re-select that to Nvidia web driver again. And then run the following command in terminal.

sudo nvram nvda_drv=1

Then please double check which extensions (kext) are loaded.

[doublepost=1530492987][/doublepost]Ok Did PRAM reset. rebooted. Switched to nvdia driver and ran sudo nvram nvda_drv=1 rebooted again.

The GeForceWeb also loaded?

I’m out of ideas.

Just took my Mac Pro down to bare minimum.
Gt120
Gtx980ti
Ssd

Disconnected everything else and did a fresh install of 10.13.5 17F77 build
Installed NVIDIA drivers and rebooted
Got the same Nvidia chip model
Not sure what else to do?

Having a similar issue, extensions seem to all be loaded and active after doing:

Perform a PRAM reset with the GT120 still installed. The driver will automatically fall back to macOS driver.

re-select that to Nvidia web driver again. And then run the following command in terminal.

sudo nvram nvda_drv=1

But still black screen.

Have a legit Mac Pro 5.1 - dual 6 core 2.66 Ghz, recently did fresh install of high Sierra with anti radeon 4870 inside. Have since tried installing latest Nvidia drivers and rebooting, and just get a black screen. If I insert the ati card I see image fine. Have tried uninstalling, resetting pram and reinstalling and still nothing. Have also tried changing slots and nothing. All I ever see is generic Nvidia card in system info and PCI section shows card installed and driver yes.

Not sure what to do. Appreciate your help!!!

I've noticed that the Get Info strings under the Extensions for NVDAStartup and NVDAStartupWeb are different, could this be an issue?

Did you get this sorted out?

Silly, and opinion/personal experience based question: I need to replace my Nvidia GTX650Ti; Is a 1050Ti a capable card for gaming, or is it pretty much bottom of the barrel these days? I'd like at least a 1060 4/6 Gb, but those are almost double the price. If I go the cheaper route, am I shooting myself in the foot and it will be obsolete in one year?

If you're intending to use with MacOS, personally would not take the risk on purchasing a new NVIDIA card unless it is a Founders Edition. Would wait to see what the Mojave beta does with NVIDIA web drivers. I expect the GTX 1080 FE to work without issue, likely the GTX 1070 FE, but really unsure about the others.

Currently many lower 10XX series cards do work with 10.13.6. There have been issues in the past where non-EFI X50 and X60 cards stopped working with the NVIDIA Web Drivers on an OS update. Have never experienced that with GTX 680 or GTX 1080.

Crap... This is an EVGA card https://www.evga.com/products/produ...=GeForce+10+Series+Family&chipset=GTX+1050+Ti

And these do not work on the stock drivers because they are Pascale architecture?

Again, not saying it does not work with 10.13.6. Would look for reports of users with the same card to see their experience. If you're looking to update to Mojave at any point, would suggest waiting before spending money on buying a GPU you may need to replace again in 6-8 months.

Personally have seen MANY random issues with lower end series cards in Mac machines with NVIDIA Web Drivers, some just flat out not working at all and others having display issues. Some manufacturers are better than others. (EVGA is usually one of the better ones.)

Ever since NVIDIA started making Founders Edition cards, those have been the most compatible with Mac and the NVIDIA Web Drivers. Would recommend sticking with those cards moving forward, if possible.

If that is not possible, at least look for cards that are not heavily modified from reference. Ideally they show the NVIDIA logo on the board near the pins (rather than the manufacturer's logo). Cards that do not display the NVIDIA logo are modified in some way. Again, some will work but some do not. (Zotac cards are usually more heavily modified than others.)

Generally speaking, it does seem the higher end cards are more compatible on Mac (the X/XX70 and X/XX80 series). You may be better off with a higher end previous generation card than picking up a GTX 1050.

Nothing is set in stone and Mojave is still in beta. Technically not 100% sure if Mojave on MacPro5,1 is really "supported" yet even though people have been able to install the beta. Mojave beta is working with Sapphire PULSE RX 580, which is one of only two currently recommended beta cards for 5,1 installs. Nothing officially mentioned about NVIDIA cards at all so far, not even the official GTX 680 Mac Edition.

Many EXPECT that modern NVIDIA cards will work with the NVIDIA web drivers, but nothing is guaranteed right now. If you're spending money and don't care, buy whatever NVIDIA card you want. But if you were in that group, you'd probably be targeting a higher end card to begin with...

Right now, if I were spending $300 on a GPU for a Mac Pro 5,1 and did not care about CUDA, it would be on the Sapphire PULSE RX 580.

Personally, with the new Turing series nVidia cards slated to launch in 1-2 months, I'd wait and pick up a used 1070 Founders Edition or similar. There will be a lot of good second hand cards coming up cheaply as people move to the new nVidia cards. 1080Ti prices are already coming down substantially on eBay.

heh, will the Turing cards be supported in HS/Mojave? (purely speculation of course)

The first question is how the current generation cards will be handled with the NVIDIA Web Drivers in Mojave. That will determine a lot. If they are not supported, the next generation will likely not either.

The second question is if NVIDIA GPUs will ever officially work on Mac with an eGPU enclosure on other non cMP machines, even if support is not through Apple. This would at least give NVIDIA a reason to continue developing the drivers.

The third question is what type of ports will the MacPro7,1 have. If there are standard PCIe slots or a method of connecting aftermarket GPUs, it would increase the chances of NVIDIA developing the Mac drivers.

Right now it's anyone's guess.

We may able to have that support in 2019 (if we are lucky enough). Apple seems to make Nvidia harder and harder to support their GPU in macOS. For Pascal card (released in May 2016), the macOS support arrived in Apr 2017. It cause Nvidia a whole year before they can support that on Mac.

And even with the web driver, the initial support didn't look good. At the very beginning, the Pascal card can't even work better than Maxwell card in macOS. It cost few more months until the driver is mature enough to really release the Pascal card's power. But even with the latest web driver. The GPU can display, can compute, but the whole video engine still disabled in macOS. So, if you want FULL support of the next Nvidia card (in macOS), it may never arrive.

Hi everyone,

I know I am in completely unsupported territory, but that's why we run prerelease OS, right?

Finally after waiting to upgrade my Mac Pro 5,1 (2012) dual hex-core machine from Sierra, I decided to give it a whirl after having such a great experience on a MacBook Air (2017) and MacBook Pro 15" (2012, non-Retina). I have s MacVidCards GTX 980 Ti 6GB card I have been running for some time, and two 27" LED Cinema Displays. So after getting my raid situation cleared up to allow installation, the installation went great. I was introduced to the non-accelerated, one monitor desktop as expected. I was hoping there could be in-box support for the card, but no such luck.

Therefore, although I have gotten drivers to work in the past designed for a different OS/Build #, I was wondering if anyone has successfully got acceleration going on this card/machine/OS? The build number is 18A336e. The driver I installed picked up the second monitor and enabled it, and both are running at full resolution, but there is some acceleration missing. Using mission control it is very noticeable, as well as streaming a movie full-screen on one monitor is unwatchable. Just looking for some ideas as to what path to go down to see if we can get this working, as who knows when there will be an official drop from Nvidia.

If anyone needs help testing an idea, I would be willing to assist.

Thank you.
