This thread inspired me. What are people's thoughts. This is my first attempt at moon shots.

I think that it may be a little over sharpened in PS.

Nikon D60 - Tamron Adaptall 135mm 2.8f

Shutter Speed: 1/200
ISO: 100
Aperture: f 8.0

On the less cropped shots I use more USM than if cropped tightly, makes the moon pop, but you still need to judge if overboard. I think you dialed it nicely here.

Time for full moon fever again!!
All with my 55-250 kit lens.
Yesterday Mon 4/26
_MG_6087.jpg

And tonights full moon (Tues 4/27 evening almost 10pm)
_MG_6093.jpg

Then the clouds rolled it about 40 minutes later, actually I think looks kinda neat.
They were really slow moving so could capture them and the moon, w/o the moon being too overblown.
I took about 25-30 at various exposures/apertures until these looked decent on the 3" back screen.

Got my new CF tripod today, https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/9980873/ so had to take some full moon shots with it tonight.

Full moon just rising over my tree line, some clouds/haze gave it cool look.
It's so hard to capture moon w/detail and clouds/tree outline, I'm still learning how to do.

Exactly, there is just too much dynamic range. Depending on the timing of the moonrise for where you are, try capturing this right before sunset or right at sunset, instead of after the sun goes down.

Working on computer, realized full moon was clear tonight, took this shot about 45 minutes ago....
Shot with 55-250 kit lens, these are times wish I had a 100-400 L lens!
_MG_2785.jpg

Moving to Aperture 3 from Adobe PSE8 I'm still learning PP techniques for moon shots in Aperture, slightly different methods.

Well, technically it's a 99% full moon...allowing more crater detail along the terminator
Moonrise 8:06 p.m. on preceding day
Moon transit 1:53 a.m.
Moonset 7:50 a.m.
Moonrise 8:27 p.m.
Moonset 8:50 a.m. on following day

Phase of the Moon on 25 August: waning gibbous with 99% of the Moon's visible disk illuminated.

Full Moon on 24 August 2010 at 1:05 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.

New York, Baby!
I didn't notice this thread, but on Tuesday night, the Moon was so full and bright that I thought 'what the hell'

First attempt with a stupid 0.3" shutter speed:

Best attempt before I got tired with 1/400:

Really enjoyed it, unfortunately we've had rain ever since and last night could've been good since our area had a powercut!

I also got a shot of a star (I think, it was the 2nd brightest object in the sky) and a 30 second exposure turned the dot of light into a little trail.

Right now Jupiter is just behind the moon and very bright.....did you get Jupiter?

Jupiter and 4 moons late Thur Aug 26

I was motivated to try at using my modest T1i + 55-250 IS kit lens at capturing Jupiter and 4 moons, success!! I'm stoked.

Initially I tried settings of 250mm, ISO 1600, 1/4 sec, f 5.6 (on Tripod).
Yep, there they are.
_MG_2801.jpg

Crop shows some "egg" due to movement (on live view 10x I could see Jupiter + 4 moons moving so was concerned)
_MG_2801%20-%20Version%202.jpg

I then tried successive faster shutter speeds and also went to ISO800 for less noise, below combination seemed "best capture" for this.
Tripod, 250mm, ISO 800, 1/13 sec, f 5.6
Full picture (not as noticeable as 1/4 sec)
Jupiter%20and%204%20moons_MG_2810.jpg

cropped shows Jupiter and 4 moons definitely more crisp.
Am I seeing hint of different colors? I'd like to see a 100-400L or a Bigma shot of this for more detail and colors....any takers out there??

what the heck, since I was grabbing Jupiter and her moons could not let our moon feel lonely, so here's looking at "The Moon".

Moon out of Water

Taking some sunset pics tonight, turned around and saw the Moon coming out of the water. Taken from Northeast Ohio,USA, over Lake Erie.

1st pic was with my kit 18-55, wanted to get it coming out of the Lake, ran back up to my cottage and got my 70-200 for the 2nd pic. This was a pretty awesome sight. Supposed to happen again tonight at around 9:05pm est. I will be ready tonight to get some better shots.

Full Moon a rising over the lake..Oct 22, 2010

The #1-4 water shots of "Full moon a rising" were taken at Kensington Oct 22, 2010 about 6:40pm, just after my MTB ride at Island Lake Rec area.
EXIF data in all shots, taken with my T1i using the 15-85 lens on tripod, PP done in Aperture 3.1

The #5 moon shot in sky taken at 9:36pm from my front yard, official full moon time on 10-22-10, taken with T1i +55-250 @ 250mm.

You'll notice there is some chromatic aberration particularly around the top of the image. I used a particularly poor lens for this shot, a Sigma 28-200mm, although I did manually focus it. I also cannot control the aperture on this lens, so this is about the best I can get with this lens. Taken with a Canon T2i body but significantly cropped.

First shots with my new 70-200 f2.8 mkII are...the 11/24 moon

With the B&H rebate I got my first "L" glass, the 70-200 f2.8 mkII.
Boy, I've handled the 70-200 f4 before, this f2.8 is a beast!

It came last night 11/23 4pm via UPS, the first shots from it ever are....the Moon this early morning.....kids went to sleep by time I unpacked it.
Was cloudy last night, so upon wake up to let the dog out and clear/still skies, took some shots.

All taken with T1i on tripod, exif data in picture, basically ISO100, f10
Below cropped at 1024 pix high, posted 1024 pix.

#1 pict: 200mm, f10, 1/250 sec;

#2 pict for comparison is 55-250 IS kit lens @ 250mm, f10, 1/200 taken Aug 26 2010.

#3 pict: 280mm via 200 * 1.4 TC mkII, f10, 1/250 sec;

Note:
#1 / #3 pict: Phase of the Moon on 24 November: waning gibbous with 90% of the Moon's visible disk illuminated, #2 pict: Phase of the Moon on 26 August: waning gibbous with 96% of the Moon's visible disk illuminated

I had put my 2 kit lens up for sale, and they sold just today, so could not do same day test shot comparison....oh well...

For 1/10 the price the 55-250 IS kit lens did a decent job of moon, a really decent job.
I consider the 8/26 moon shot my best with that kit lens.

I'm waiting for the mkIII 2x extender to be released, will be curious how that multi-stacked 200mm * TC( 2 + 1.4) image looks (560mm equiv then).
