Five Views of the Waxing Crescent Moon on Flickr you can view a larger version of this photo and read additional details about its creation.

All images taken on January 27, 2012 with my Astro-Tech AT72ED telescope coupled to my Nikon D5100 DSLR.

...What do you think? Shot with Miranda 70-300mm f:4.5-5.6 on my GF1.
Well done for a 300mm telephoto.

Also, your Flickr link (in your signature) seems to lead to an error.

Thanks and the signature link should be fixed now. Not sure how that happened, I'm certain when I created it I made sure it worked. Oh well thanks for letting me know :).

This shot taken February 8, 2012, nice to see Luna on a clear, cold night.
I put the gear outside for 45 minutes to ensure no thermal issue of lens/camera in cold weather.
Canon T1i @ 560mm via 70-200 L + (2) TC's.
ISO100, F11, 1/400 shutter. PP in Aperture 3.

Here are some of mine...
Does your Canon camera have an electronic first curtain shutter? If so, did you use it because that might help a lot with your photography through the telescope. From a stability point of view, your system looks fairly light weight so any shutter/mirror vibration is going to cause your images to be somewhat blurred.

Your images look fairly good, so it may not be that much of an issue but I know that I'm constantly fighting against vibrations with my Nikon DSLR and I'm pretty close to moving to a different camera just because of this problem.

It's only a very cheap scope with a very basic mount so getting it steady and focused is hard work.

I did use mirror lock up, that helped a lot. I think I would get much better result with using a decent scope with a proper EQ mount.

Can't afford that though!

My "best" telescope cost me $400 and I've yet to reach its full potential (it's an AstroTech AT72ED refractor). However, that cost doesn't factor in the significant amount of support equipment that I already owned from my relatively long involvement in astrophotography.

As you probably know, good equatorial mounts cost a LOT of money and as yet I have not been able to convince myself that I should spend the thousands of dollars needed to get a really good mount. I've ended up building my own mounts, one a fairly heavy Alt-Azimuth pipe mount for short-exposure, high-resolution work (unguided), and a second barn-door type mount for manually driven/tracked wide-field photography with my Nikon DSLR. In fact, I've never finished all of the work that I need to do on either of those mounts so I better get busy before the observing weather improves later this spring.

Captured these 3 heavenly objects just as the sun was setting, strikingly beautiful
Feb 26, 2012 Venus, Jupiter, and the crescent Moon.
These are all handheld with the DSLR Canon T1i and 15-85mm lens.

85mm sorta close up, to show them with "proper" exposure

widefield 15mm exposed to show the snow in foreground, moon gets blown out here

widefield 15mm exposed to show the crescent Moon without as much overexposure, still trying to capture the late blue/orange evening sky
